  • Price in title please

  • @markmathews, where have you taken it out? I bought one a while ago and haven't taken it out yet because I don't know where to take it. I'm in NSW.

      Hi. My kids paddle them in the baths in botany bay. We paddle them from Audley in the royal national Park. Take them on camping trips etc

      • Take long to inflate?

        Are they heavy?

        • Easier than we thought to inflate. The hand pump is pretty good at getting air in there, but it's also pretty flimsy and comes apart, so you have to go easy on it.

          They are kinda not heavy and not light. Does that help? :)

  • How well so they handle in the sea?

    I am thinking about getting the K2, two person version and using it occasionally by myself for near-shore fishing trips. But not sure if it will be too difficult to handle a two person kayak solo, or how well it works in slight chops.

      I've taken it out in small surf, it comes with a detachable fin. It's as stable as a conventional canoe.

    • I think I read the Intex Explorer K2 double kayak is more capable at sea and in mild rapids than the single one, with its turned up nose that rides higher. On youtube there was someone using it on the ocean. I haven't tried mine by myself or on the sea so I can't personally confirm or not.

      A suggestion was to take the pump with you - if you go out in the morning, the sun can heat it up as the temp increases, causing the air in the kayak to expand, and you might have to let some air out, then if you're still out when it gets cooler you'd need to top up the air.

      The kayak club that operates at the beach though suggests the regular hard shell kayaks for going to sea though, you might be better looking for a deal on a "real" kayak.

      • Thanks for the advice. I have to get an inflatable because of transportation and storage.

        I also reckon that the Explorer K2 looks more 'seaworthy'. It also offers more storage space, which I like, because I intend to convert it to a fishing kayak. But it is interesting that on Intex's official website, the Challenger K2 is actually listed for USD10 more than the Explorer K2… Hmmm..

        Overall, the Excursion Pro looks best and it is made with tougher and more rigid materials. It also comes with a fishing accessory rail and rod holders. But it is almost three times the price (329 on Groupon), without being three time the boat.

    Seems to get pretty good reviews for the price.

  • I got a set of two 2-person ones a couple of years ago. They are pretty good quality, and I can give them a tentative thumbs up.

    Good points:
    * easy to inflate
    * pretty stable

    Bad points
    * cleaning them is a bugger, there are lot of nooks
    * when you fold them up, you have to be careful of the bungs. I damaged the bung and wore a hole in the skin when they were folded up in a rush
    * they are pretty bulky to transport
    * the seats velcro in and clip up, but it's not really robust
    * the pump shifts good air, but comes apart in your hands. Be gentle with it
