  • What's the battery life like on these? Want to use it as a spotify/music player.

  • +3

Literally just bought this phone 30 mins ago from JB-Hifi at a 'special' discounted price of $130..

Battery life I have researched is apparently not very good.

    Might try my local coles

    • Yeah, JB hifi had all their Nokia phones where on special a while back… Nokia 5 or 5.1 was $199…

      • +1

5.1 plus was $199. Pretty happy with the Nokia 5.1 plus once I worked out how to disable the Duraspeed background task killer which crippled it for me. Was not an easy task. Does lack NFC.

    • +1

cant you take it back and get a refund?

      • +3

Yes thats the plan. I will visit coles over the weekend and if they have the same phone for $100 less I will try return the one I bought today for a refund.

    • Battery life wasn't amazing. However, I never thought it was 'bad'.
Compared to my Samsung A20 though, yes it is bad.

    • +2

I updated mine to Oreo 8.1 (v4.43E). Select battery saver in the drop down menu. I think it stops notifications coming through as I physically need to open viber etc to see if anyone messages.

The net result is the battery lasts me just over 2 days of regular calls and data. Which was better than my old Sony Experia.

  • is it Coles nationwide? might be a good back up phone for visitors

    • +1

I am not sure, but they have more than 10 available. I mean, the ones that are visible to the public.

      • +3

2 left when I got there. 1 left now.

  • +2

According GSMArena, the Battery life Endurance rating is 53h

  • +2

Credit lasts for a long time compared to other companies. People have also reported problems with voice calling, can be resolved by turning off 4g over LTE in network settings.

    • This is the part I hate about the phone. You call me and they hang up as no voice comes through from you for the first 5 secs. I will try the 4g disable idea

      • +1

just remembered… there's also a 3rd party voice volume app you can download. It automatically boosts the volume, turns out this was kind of an android setting to keep the volume low.

    • "shadako" So every time you need to make a voice call you turn off 4G and revert to 3G instead or just turn data off altogether which should also work yeah?

How do you go receiving calls with 4G on?

      • Sorry should have explained further.
        1. Fully update phone for best results.
        2. Settings-> Network -> Mobile Network -> Advanced -> Turn off the 4g over LTE or Enhanced 4G LTE setting. Not your 4g network.
        3. Download any Volume boost app, Android has it set lower in hardware settings

        • I've turned off the LTE. This takes away any "robot" artefacts in phone calls. Jury is still out on the delayed connection element.

Also, don't keep your wifi on. When you unlock sometimes the phone makes a full volume screech noise (especially with a few apps running). Phone seems to know the best times to do it (cafe, library, a plane, meetings).

  • +2
  • Able to unlock?

    • $29 on eBay

      • +3

$25 from Vodafone if the IMEI is older than 6 months.

      • +1

I found a person on ebay that did it for $9 about a month ago

        • +1

current active link would be very helpful if you have it.

          • +2

@ozhunter68: I couldn't find it on eBay.com.au, so might have been on .com site. Also, was advertised as a generic Nokia unlock. I messaged with the model number and they could do it. I would just search Nokia unlock, find the cheapest, ask the question.

  • +1

i bought this phone last year for my mum and she loves it.

  • nokia 3 vs huawei y5?

    • +4

Nokia 3 has NFC, Y5 seems a better actual phone

    • I am in the same boat. Bought both to choose after knowing which one is better. Do not need nfc. So Huawei?

      • Did the Coles you went to have both these in stock, or did you have to hunt around multiple stores?

        • +1

They had both. 2 hours later nothing left.

    • +5

The carrier-subsidised models (prepaid) NEVER have dual SIM.
Cheapest will be ordering online from Asia.

    • +5

Single SIM, had one since last year.

Nokia 3 Dual SIM is 4G/2G, which in Australia might as well be single SIM.

  • +3

Bugger me, it has Android Pie, NFC and Band-28!!!

    Bargain!

    • argh! this or the Y5 2018. Latter has no NFC tho :(

      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8572&idPhone2=9209#diff-,,*

    • +1

But can be a pig for making voice calls…which is really the main purpose. But yeah, its a bargain. I paid $89 and thought that was decent

  • Can we use this for Android Auto?

  • Was tempted to buy one of these for my Mum, who (like the rest of our family) is on Aldi Mobile. $44.75 for one of these (which has NFC, Android Pie AND LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38 and 40) is a steal…

Unfortunately, the unlocking fee of $25 minimum, whether you do it through Vodafone or eBay, makes it a bit less of a deal.

    • +3

Still very cheap. Anything else under $100 is probably junk with only 1GB.

      Try this for $15:

      ebay.com.au/itm/Unlock-Code-For-NOKIA-3-1-4G-E71-3310-LUMIA-800-610-735-N95-VODAFONE-AUSTRALIA/264409465975

  • Should be able to get free unlock from Voda if u know someone on a voda plan.

  • Including a $40.00 Prepaid Started Pack

does that mean the phone itself costs less than $5?

    • +3

Only if you would've paid $40 for a $40 Vodafone Prepaid starter pack.

    • +1

The $40 started pack is already included.

You get included on activation, without any extra payment the following:
      $40 Combo Plus Including:
      Data: 20 GB
Standard national calls, SMS & MMS: Unlimited
International minutes to selected countries: 100
International minutes to 20 selected countries: 500
      International SMS: 50
      Expiry: 35 days.

I have activated the Pack just for curiosity :)

    • "barozgain" As the $40 prepaid starter packs are often on sale for $20, or $30 for $10 it's worth say $10-$20 for most Ozbargainers. Still good as it makes package dirt cheap if you can use Voda for 35 days or more.

  • +2

I use one of these as a travel phone. For the price it's incredible value. Bit slow, camera sucks but overall, at this peice, a bargain

    • That is my idea too ;)

  • Locked to Voda I presume?

  • Does it work with Kogan SIM? Did anyone try yet?

    • +3

      Yes works with Kogan.

      • So to clarify, it works with kogan WITHOUT unlocking?

        Thanks

  • … anyone find this at other Coles?

    • +1

Yes, he had a rummage in the cupboard at my local, and found a couple.

      • Which store?

  • Does anyone in Perth know of stores with stock?

    • manic who commented above seems to have got one from Perth somewhere and said there were a couple in the cupboard of a store, probably minus one at least now lol.

      Maybe ask him?

  • Any idea if would work with Amaysim? Voda is optus network too right?

  • Won't work with amaysim as that is Optus network.

  • Good phone. I found that the charging point became loose after about 6 months.

  • There are still 3 left at Fairfield if anyone is looking for this in Brisbane :)

  • Anyone know of stores in WA with stock?

  • Still one left at Macquarie Park NSW if anyone is interested (I bought the other one yesterday)

    • I bought one this morning from there so I’m assuming they are all gone. I didn’t really asked how many were left.
