Can somebody please assist me with some guidance if I should buy this or there are better alternatives under $200?
I am completely noob when it comes to speakers/soundbar but looking for for a wireless/bluetooth soundbar for my Panasonic VIErA TH-P50ST60A.
I am not yet 100% sure if my TV has built-in Bluetooth function that is compatible with this soundbar (getting conflicting info when I search on the forums). But I guess I can always buy a Bluetooth Transmit/Receiver
So please advise as I am confused if this would be a decent buy or am I missing any better product under $200
For $200, there's very little options, especially one that'll take up as little space as this. My YAS-106 is plugged in with an optical cable. No regrets.
Bought this a couple of months ago - no regrets either. The Bluetooth function is great. I just have it connected by HDMI to my HiSense tele and it works well.
edit - sorry bought the YAS108B - if this is newer version should be better, hopefully!
YAS-108B & ATS-1080 are identical models with different product numbers. I double checked on Official Yamaha website in the past.
No experience with this but I guess you could get one under $200 with an external subwoofer that will sound better than this one. Trying to help but not an expert :)
Soundbars are designed to be connected by wire to your TV. (The Yamaha comes with a Toslink cable)
For best connection (best sound quality & audio/video sync) use HDMI or Toslink optical connection.
Bluetooth is for occasionally playing music with a smart-device.
Regarding sub $200 soundbars, this Yamaha model beats all others in the range with sound, features and quality.
TLDR: Make sure it has HDMI ARC
I was in the same boat as you (noob soundbar/speaker type guy) and bought a sound bar a couple years ago.
I love the sound, the subwoofer is great, BUT it does not have HDMI ARC. Translation - You cannot control the soundbar volume with the tv remote.
Third world problem? Maybe. But hunting for that damn sound bar remote is very annoying. Not to mention the kids turning the TV volume all the way up, then realising they have the wrong remote. Cue Dad changing to a source that uses the TV sound and BAM - ears blown.
Yes the Yamaha does https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/sound_bar/yas…
Can you get any wireless speakers with this to make it 5.1? Cheers
Anyone know what the difference between this and yas-108b is ?
The MPN of this listing is ATS1080B, so maybe it is what you looking for?
Does the B stand for Bluetooth?
"B" is for black.
No difference. I bought one from Bing Lee last time, asking the same question. Best I could tell was that it was identical, but under a distinct product name to allow for price-guarantee chains in the State (can't recall which one) to have an exclusive.
EDIT - see the reddit link below. It was Costco.
Does the sound bar come with subwoofer?
@ITveteran: No
Nothing.
Nothing but the code.
Has one wall mounted theirs? Where do you place the power point to make the cables as hidden/neat as possible?
behind the tv on the wall?
I have the ats 1060 and have a 65" tv wall mounted on a two arm bracket that extends out about 50cm from the wall when required. The sound bar sits below on a cabinet. If the tv is extended over the soundbar the sound gets lost and less distinguished. So basically don't do it.
Sound on the 1060 is great for the price and is far better than the tv.
I also added an active sub to the ats 1060 which I think compliments it very well. (Just a cheap second hand one)
Biggest problem with these is that they sit facing the ceiling unless wall mounted.
@SonOfATightASS: I thought that was the point of them? To bounce the sound off the ceiling and create surround sound
@chriise: Only a few soundbars actually ‘bounce’ sound (Yamaha has only the YSP5600MK2 which does this and its the $2500 top model).
All soundbars except these super expensive ‘flagship’ models just add processing to the 5.1 surround signal and pump it out in stereo.
my partners dad has run his cables behind the wall to make it look really clean, bit off effort but looks awesome, powerpoint sits behind the mounted tv
Bought one last sale, very happy with it
Have this, its an upgrade to most TVs but not particularly significant. I haven't had to do anything special to set it up due to ARC at least and works with my TVs remote, replacing the usual volume controls.
Same here, others have had issues however. Can't remember with which brand of TV's though. It's been discussed in previous deal threads if anyone else is interested in looking it up
Always regret wasting my money on one of these. The stock TV speakers are much better. I switched back within days.
You get more bass with this soundbar, and less of everything else - including dialogue and any form of sound balance.
Ok, so I'm not crazy. We bought this specifically because we're finding it harder and harder to understand American mumble on Netflix, so thought this would boost the dialogue (because it has a dialogue boost or whatever) but I don't find it helps much on that front (or at all).
There are specific settings which you need to adjust to improve dialogue clarity.
First try ‘stereo mode’ on the soundbar (there should be ‘stereo’ and ‘surround’ buttons on the remote).
Make sure the bass is also at a reasonable level (having bass at high levels will mean you will be using the soundbar at low volume because the bass is so strong).
If you turn the bass down, you can turn the overall volume up, meaning the mids and highs will be louder.
Next the settings for your HDMI or Toslink optical cable connection.
The digital audio output settings (in the TV settings or Apple TV / streaming device whichever is connected to sound bar) make sure the output is set to ‘stereo’ or PCM, instead of 5.1 or Dolby surround.
Finally you can turn on the soundbar’s ‘clear-voice’ mode.
These steps helped to improve dialogue when I used the previous model Yamaha soundbar with the TV.
You need to adjust the settings according to what you use the speaker for, such as movie, music, sport, TV etc. I suggest you to avoid using the remote for changing the settings, you can easily change the settings by using YAMAHA app called Home Theater Controller
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yamaha.av.…
I hope this helps.
movie, music, sport, TV etc.
Yes when you press the ‘surround’ button on the remote it cycles through these surround modes. To turn off ‘surround mode’ you have to press ‘stereo mode’ on the remote.
From my memory the surround modes add processing and alter the sound with things such as EQ, reverb and delay in an attempt to simulate surround, and does a very poor job doing so.
In practice ‘virtual surround’ on all soundbars is just stereo sound with processing. And from my part switching from ‘stereo mode’ to ‘surround mode’ did little to actually achieve surround sound (best it did was make the stereo image sound a little wider).
I do remember one of the ‘surround modes’ (either Movie or TV) actually sounded acceptable with dialogue. The only way of knowing which actual surround mode you are using is this the App.
So as you said yes the App can help.
Weirdly, that link is broken for me - even a google search leads to the same broken link…
Edit: never mind. work filter.
Thanks for the feedback - you seem to be in the minority but I was very tempted to get this model just to give a 30% improvement to my TV speakers. Was planning on wall mounting it below (facing outwards to the room). I guess the alternative is a set of bookshelf speakers…? Or a more expensive soundbar (more like $500)
Picked one up this afternoon, thanks OP. Works really well as a bluetooth speaker for our google home in the kitchen with the auto-sleep and auto-wake on bluetooth functions fitting our needs perfectly.
bought one thx, better than prime day
Really want this but think it might sit too high for non-mounted B8.. anyone have this set up that can comment on sizing and whether it blocks the infrared for the remote?
I have yas 108-b and have connected with the cable it came with my Samsung TV but everytime i turn on tv, it defaults back to TV speakers.
Would anyone know why?
Does the soundbar turn on automatically when the TV does?
Yes
Try connecting with HDMI cable using to the HDMI/ARC on your TV.
That should fix the problem. Hopefully.
Received mine yesterday , works great, much better than my tcl 55p6us speakers
I think it is the lowest price (if you have eBay Plus of course)
