Here we go.. lets bring this down to $300 mark :)

  • +15

If preorder prices are already at $500 i would recommend people hold out for good deals when it releases properly

    • +5

Agreed, the less the people buy at pre-order prices the more they will be forced to discount

    • Hey, thanks for the tip!

      • What is this tip you speak of

        • What HeisenbergMelb wrote above, that Bose 700 is likely to have further reduction when on sale.

  • +1

Afterall the official RRP for Bose QC35II and Sony m3 is $500, so not at all unlikely for it to come down to $300-350 during sales.

    • +5

The official RRP of these are $100 higher though, so best you'll probably see is ~$399

  • +2

If it's pre order I'm assuming people are buying these without listening to them?

    • +6

I really wonder how many people go and test all the headphones they can before settling on one, or just go on the internet and read the XM3 is the best headphone that has ever existed and if you don't buy one you are stupid - then hit up OZB and buy one. I'm pretty sure nearly all OZB just buy the XM3 based on the loud XM3 users.

      • +2

I'm pretty fussy with sound so I find it staggering people drop $300 - $500 on something they haven't listened to.

        • +1

I'm pretty fussy on sound also, which is why I couldn't justify spending my own money on any of the ANC cans out.

      • +1

Cant go wrong with the XM3s. Good thing many of the JB stores have most models out to demo.

        • Yep if you aren't a fussy listener and just want a good set of ANC cans, for sure. Misses out on a few basics like multi pairing, good mic etc.

          • @onlinepred: Other way around actually. The SQ on the XM3 is comfortably better than the Bose. Plus with the Sonys you get to adjust the sound signature to your liking and LDAC codec as well. With the Bose you are just stuck with what they give you which is a neutral sort of sound signature and AAC/SBC codec. Sounds a bit too boring for my liking.

            • @dins: Oh okay, I prefer neutral by far, and after comparing ldac on or off on my Android with xm3, I couldn't tell the difference at all. I think most of these sets sounds boring, but they focus on anc over sound quality anyway.

              • @onlinepred: Well with the Sonys you can make them sound to whatever your liking unlike with Bose which was the point I was tring to make. I own Sennheiser HD650s as well and these Sonys sound pretty good for mine. Great allrounder.

                • @dins: Yea unfortunately you can't add sound stage which sucks, the Sony is much worse than Bose imo, but obviously for bass heads it makes no difference and they would prefer xm3.

            • +2

@dins: I wish they would let you use LDAC with the EQ. I kind of prefer a more neutral sound but the Bright option on the EQ is probably my favourite.

              • @Jasonissm: I am not sure about your sound source, but I use eq on my s9 plus (Ausie exynos version). Never felt custom eq on the sony app is needed. Samsung exynos is the best sounding even better than LG's dedicated quad dac.. my wife got S10 plus exynos and I also tested on LG G7.

                • @EssendonUser: Yeah, using LDAC (so no EQ) mostly on my S10+, the option to use the in app EQ would be nice though. Sometimes I'm really feelin a little extra bass or sometimes I want a more neutral sound.

                  • @Jasonissm: What about phone settings / sound quality and effects / equiliser / custom to set the equiliser.you can find many suggestions online…s9+ has another advanced option to set bass / treble and istrumental / vocal separately. Couldnt find that option in S10+ ..but you can achieve it by changing equiliser bar manually based on your liking.

                    • @EssendonUser: Yeah, I sometimes use an external EQ, but if I'm just listening to some regular mp3s or through Spotify, I'll just pass on the LDAC and use the app one, but I'd like if I could just set the EQ on the app and not have to worry about it. Also some of the presets on the app are quite nice.

              • @Jasonissm: Yeah when not using LDAC I think I use Bright as well but with extra bass (there's a settings gear icon on the EQ part of the app where you can select whatever preset and once you tap on that settings icon it takes the same settings to manual where you can make your own adjustments). So there's no specific sound signature to the Sonys really because you can make it sound to your liking with a few adjustments. With the Bose however you are just stuck with the default EQ settings.

                • @dins: I don't think so, they still have a pretty distinct "Sony sound signature" which is catered to a more commercial audience, with emphasized bass. You can really only change so much with an equaliser because if you push them too far you get distortion and it just doesn't sound great. You have a little degree of flexibility but with any other headphones you can still use an external equaliser, although I still think most headphones can't deal with equalisation well besides planar drivers with a nice amp.

      • I’d be very reluctant to pay $300–400 for headphones I couldn’t listen to first. As others have said, JB have demo units. Bose stores and Sony stores/kiosks also have demos. Then advantage of the Bose and Sony stores is that you can try in-ear phones too (they have wipes to clean the eartips), which JB won’t do.

    • They're braver than me :)
I walked into a store recently thinking I'd be getting a bose 35ii but walked out with another. Comfort and listening experience is so subjective.

      • What did you get instead?

        • +5

          The sony wh1000xm3.

      • +2

It must be because in terms of comfort I find that the Sony is nowhere near the Bose.

        • +1

It depends on your comfirt. I returned Bose QC35ii and bought Sony 100XM3 for being more comfirtable for me, blows out Bose in terms of sound quality (realistic and open with nice bass). Only let down for me is the mic quality.

          • -3

@EssendonUser: It's not nice open bass, it's exaggerated. It's part of the reason many like it.

            • +1

@onlinepred: I think they mean the XM3 sounds ‘open’ as in clearer mid-to-highs (compared back to back with QC35II they would seem clearer), and nice bass (the typical description of boosted bass).

      • Add in price to value as well. The proper answer is ‘it depends’.

    • +5

Demo units are available at JB. I went to have a listen and my impression was that the NC isn't as good as the XM3, I quite like the design, and judging by the box size the case is on par with the XM3. It feels premium and comfortable. Listening to online review, the microphones sounds much better than the XM3 which was an area that's been a let down. I also didn't like the proprietary audio cable but I've only ever had to replace one headphone cable ever in 15years, and that was on a wired set.

I'm tempted to get these for conference calls, especially for at airports. The price point is a bit too high though. Since they are keeping the QC35ii in the range I suspect the prices will stay around the $400-$500 mark, probably settle around $450.

      • and judging by the box size the case is on par with the XM3

For me, I found it slightly worse sadly. Sturdy, but bigger and lacks the handy outer pocket for stashing passport/plane ticket/etc. Only plus is that it has a neat magnetic inner pocket for stashing small cables.

also didn't like the proprietary audio cable

It's a 2.5mm jack, so not exactly proprietary, though agreed 3.5mm would be much better!

I'm tempted to get these for conference calls

That was my motivator, and yep, they're great for that (in a vacuum that is - not $500 dollerydoos great).

      • I'm tempted to get these for conference calls, especially for at airports

I don't find them very good for calls.

I got them to replace the Plantronics wireless headset I used for calls but I went back to using the Plantronics for calls.

        • Which Plantronics do you have? I suppose the best headsets have a boom mic for a reason haha

          • @Poppin: I have a B825m

It has a half boom mic which I think is a good compromise, plus it folds up and isn't very visible when you aren't using it.

  • +1

the down side for this headset is that its not foldable?

    • The case is bigger than the QC35 but on par with the XM3 so depends where you're coming from

      • Yeah, the cups swivel so it's also a pretty thin case though.

  • There are already reviews for this headphone, conclusion is, either buy a Sony xm1000iii or wait for qc45.

    • Essentially these are the QC45s. If you see all their other new products they are re branding them to make naming simpler.

They have the Soundbar 500/700 instead of SoundTouch, Bass speaker instead of Accoustimass, Home Speaker 300/500 instead of SoundTouch. While not released yet, they have announced the Wireless earbuds 500 instead of SoundSport and the Noise cancelling earbuds 700 instead of Quietcomfort/Quietcontrol (announced the same time as these but apparently not released until next year).

  • +3

Read and watched 4 reviews between Bose NC700 vs Sony XM3 so far
All recommended the Sony due to:
    - better ANC
    - slightly more comfortable
    - better price tag
    - better app (eg. modify headphone settings with different modes). Bose app is unstable at least up till now.
    - better physical buttons (Bose one is too sensitive, easily mis-press when picking up the headphone)

    Reasons for choosing Bose NC700:
    - slightly better mic (4 mics vs 2 mics)
    - can connect to 2 BT devices
    - Bluetooth 5.0 with better range

    • +1

      Thanks for sharing your findings.

After reading your post I went ahead and did the same too.

Exact same findings as you. I found it interesting Youtubers are able to play the microphone (talk) sounds of both headphones, Bose 700 sounds leagues better in that department.

One thing that not many reviewers talked about is the codecs.

Does XM3 sound 'better' due to having better codecs? Will either of them have delays when watching videos?

    • +1

Slightly better mics? No they are miles ahead especially when it’s noisy!

      • +2

I agreed that if there are lots of calls that needed in noisy environments
the new Bose NC700 would be a good investment

From one youtuber review his comment is
Bose NC700 hasn't really improve much on ANC and Sound Quality
        but improved mainly on mic
Probably thats the other reason Bose is keeping the QC35ii in the product range

    • The mic goes from barely usable in xm3 to usable in Bose 700

    • Add to XM3 better SQ and LDAC codec. Even these new Bose 700s only support AAC and SBC codecs.

  • I do to the site and says $599.95, am I missing something. Thanks

    • Need to enter the code

      • ah thanks, saw the code but not where to enter, found it… such a noob

  • I’ve listened to all the usual ANC suspects. The B&O wins for sound without ANC turned on. With ANC on I prefer the Bose 700 over Sony. I’m not big on Sony’s sound signature.

Wasn't this 700 dollars a few days ago and posted as a deal? Lol.

  • +2

To the people effected by the QC 35 noise cancellation issue through the recent firmware, have you received a fix yet?

  • +1

$500 and it hasn't even come out yet… I expect $450 in a few months, and maybe even a few $400 Ozbargain specials before end of year.

  • Just to let you guys know Westpac employees get 25% off all Bose products (online). prob'bly same discount for other corporate accounts. The Bose store in Sydney CBD will honour/price match the online offer if you can show Westpac ID or login to the Bose corporate page.

I bought the Bose frame from the CBD store for $224

    • So now I just need to find a Westpac employee willing to go down to the Bose store in Melbourne with me lol

      • +2

Go to their head office around 5pm and approach any friendly people going off work and ask them nicely if they willing to help you buying your Bose.

        Shouldn't be too hard.

        • LOL loitering outside the head office of a big four bank and approaching staff members to ask if they'd go shopping with a random stranger for zero benefit to themselves? The most likely outcome is security coming out and having a conversation.

    • I thought I'd chance it with a Qantas email to register for discount for other corporates.

Seems that unless there's an 'invite' you can't sign up, so someone (probably in HR) needs to add individual email addresses to a system in advance.

Post if any other companies can log in?

      https://accommodations.bose.com/en_au/bose_employee_purchase…

  • Used this headphone at JBHIFI and they are pretty good compared to QC 35II. Also dont think the prices will go down when it hits stores. They product hype is good and people will buy it for AUD 595 Which is the current price at JB HIFI.

  • I have never owned a pair of these in my life. Can you use them on your TV, a mobile phone and a computer?

    • Anything that supports bluetooth. BUT, I've heard these headphones specifically use an app, which would make it only limited to mobile phones.

Maybe go for the QC35II, tried and tested. Maybe head in store.

      • The app helps with setup, settings and updates. You can still connect directly via BT.

  • till bose sort out their fracked firmware upgrades i wont buy an upgrade. my QC35s have been at 10% NC since the last FW upgrade and Bose is still pretending there's nothing wrong.

    • Maybe the reason they 'accidentally' gimped the 35's ANC was to force an upgrade? That would be sneaky but clever.

    • -2

dont update then or go back, mine are the same as the day i got them last year.

  • Looks like Ozbargain is going to be flooded with these deals for a few weeks…

    [Pre Order]

will they provided Bose QC35 II as a bonus? ;)

    • no they will not :)

  • $ 500 is a good price for this and I think there is a 30 day guarantee on these items too
