That's about the normal price for them at the moment.

    • -3

The RRP (normal) is actually $79.

      • +5

Most places are selling these way below that… I said normal price, not RRP.

eg. if you get one via Telstra rewards points, it's effectively around $30.

        • +1

You can't call the Telstra rewards price the normal price.

          • @bmerigan: I'm not, but that's the cheapest place to get one right now.

Valid to end Sep I think.

        • -2

Most places are selling these way below that

I'd love to see these places, can we all get a list of places where it's cheaper? I'll wait.

      • +8

        RRP (normal) is actually $79.

Google themselves were selling them for $49 from June until last week.

          • +11

            @magic8ballgag:

$49 isn't their normal or regular price

It's been that price since June. That's normal enough for me…

            • -7

              @jv:

It's been that price since June.

A lot of things have been, Google Home Mini's, people even.

      • +1

@Lorindor The RRP is an artificial pricing mechanism designed to establish an 'anchoring effect' in order to inflate pricing expectations and lure dopey consumers into paying more by distorting their sense of value.

All due respect but comments such as "but the RRP is…" should probably be flagged for moderation.

        • +5

Yeah… it should be free given how much they make off your data.

        • @soothslayer

I appreciate the respect but it was a tongue-in-cheek reply to jv's repetitive dribble, as if anyone's comments require moderation, it's theirs.

  • JB Hifi price match with Google store, any idea?

  • -1

Been waiting on some Mini deals. Cheapest I’ve seen recently is about $50 each but I’m guessing you never see them @$40 each? Anyone know the shipping cost or does it vary by location?

    • they were $45 at officeworks about 2 weeks ago. but everywhere else has gone back up over $70.. strange.

      • Ah OK, missed that. Wonder if OW will price-match this one?

      • +3

Go back a couple of months, $36 at Bunnings, picked up one PM'ed at OW for $34.20.

    • Shipping:

In some countries, you might be offered free delivery if you order specific products or your order meets a minimum price.
Free delivery applies to the lowest-cost delivery option unless otherwise specified. Free delivery may be changed or discontinued at any time.

      • Thanks. Went through and did a dummy order and it was indeed free shipping.

  • Is there a way to create a bundle with a chromecast ultra?

  • +14

Paying for google mini feels ridiculous considering how they were being handed out for free on many deals this year

    • -1

Depends, if you are after the Aqua or Coral colors of Google home mini then you will still like to pay for it
as most free minis or the one in store are only Charcoal or Chalk colors (except for the Google One offer which you can choose from all the 4 colors)

      • -2

Not sure why I have been down voted
But I have been selling a couple of Google Home minis on ebay
The Chalk one was mostly able to sell for $25-30
while the Aqua was sold for $48
This is purely because there are many "free giveaway" Google home minis with Charcoal / Chalk colors
        But not Aqua or Coral

Do a quick search on eBay with "google home mini" and you will rarely find Aqua color
(current lowest price is $69 on eBay)

        • -1

Well I wouldn't even pay dollar more even if it's comes with chrome plated as mine are hidden away and pointless.

        • Interesting enough, I put the free spotify charcoal google home mini on sale on Fb marketplace yesterday and got 4 interested people within hours and sold it for $55 today.

Very weird why people were basically fighting to pay $55 for it when it is worth a lot less

    • +1

Yeah at one point it felt like the Baker would give you one just for smiling at them. I have three, paid for none and can't even remember how I got the first one. Woolworths gave them away I think.

    • +1

You're so right. If nobody bought them, google would soon be giving them away and even paying people to take them. Google's profits would still sky rocket from the collected data - this is their prime purpose. It's like paying to wear a business logo on your t shirt or car; bizarre.

      • +1

While I see your point, if the business logo was a handsfree speaker and smart assistant to use at home in the house for almost limitless applications through IFTTT, then I can see the attraction. They’re not paying just to have their data harvested, but for the Google Assistant functionality. However, they’ve been given away so many times for free I can’t justify paying for one.

  • Doesn't the Google store charge international transaction fees because they're not actually located in Australia?

    • +1

Depends on your bank; they are the ones charging fees. Get a 28Degrees CC, ING debit card with monthly deposit and spend benefits activated, Bankwest Zero Platinum etc.

  • +2

You can easily get a new one still in the shrink off gumtree or FB marketplace for around $30.

    • Delivered?

  • Weren't google minis like $40?

    • +4

Yep. That's be about the going rate recently…

They've been as cheap as 2 packs of Tic Tacs

      • -2

I mean, they’ve been as cheap as free, jv…

  • +2

I need a couple of these for a gift, but I feel like complete crap buying them for this price after I got two for free 😒

  • +2

weren't these being given away? Google should pay me for collecting all my personal data they on sell to Trump.

    • Should charge them for spying on me.
And yeh also pls give me some commission after selling my personal data to 3rd party

      • Google don't sell data to third parties though, they have a closed system. Advertisers use their targeting to reach people but the data itself is locked down

  • Any feedback from this vs amazon echo dot?

    • +1

Seems Google Assistant is generally better than Alexa, however it's more a case of pick an ecosystem and stick to it.

    • Sound quality is much better from the Google Home Mini, but the Echo Dot has a 3.5mm jack at the back for external speakers.

The better features from both are locked behind subscriptions (such as Spotify).

As above, pick and eco system and stick to it.

  • Anyone know if google home max $299 is a good deal?

  • +1

will jb price match this? lol

    • +1

Called them, even HN. They said no.

  • Any good deals on Google Home Hub?

    • Google Nest hub max confusing rebrandings when you're a multi billion dollar company with nothing better to do
