I am looking to get a new pair of speakers to use with my computer.

How much better are these than the Logitech Z623? Also do these come with a separate sub-woofer or is it built in?

I'm also looking at these but have the Z623 already. From what I've read, bass is a lot better with the Z623 considering the sub, but the mids and highs are reasonably better on these. Personally I favour good bass based on my music preferences so I think I'll stick with the Z623.

Had the same thoughts, these don't seems to offer any advantage over Z623's apart from aesthetics.

wrong, for music the Edifiers will be significantly better in every way except for doof-doof.

but if that's your niche keep the Logitechs.

            @diamondd:

            Edifiers will be significantly better

Only need opinion from someone who owns both. You don't seem to fall in that category.

@dealhunter52: speakers are bound by the laws of physics and the Logitechs simply don't have the equipment to compete with the Edifiers (apart from the doof-doof box).

I don't own the Z623's because I have the sense but to buy them in the first place (I learnt the hard way by owning an earlier model equivalent for some number of years as a matter of fact) - but I have heard them and I find it hard to believe that any two-way bookshelf speaker could sound muddier if they tried, let alone a fairly well-regarded set like these.

honestly this is about as clear cut as saying a Golf is going to be a nicer car than a Getz*, but you do you.

*inb4 how would you know if you've never driven them both…

        • What do you mean? These ones are two way speakers - separate bass/tweeter drivers. The bass driver is 4 inches. The Logitechs only have 1 speaker, 2.5 inches in size.

I can't comment on these speakers, but I can say that the Logitech Z623 are rubbish. I've had them for a quite a while from when they were on sale at JB. The bass is completely over the top and overwhelming, to the detriment of the rest of the sound. And the build quality is rubbish, not long after I had them they started crackling until you fiddled with the power button which is weird.

      • Of course the bass is over the top for the Logitechs, because it's all being provided by the subwoofer. The speakers themselves are not full range and don't provide any bass (or very little).

    No separate sub-woofer.

I got r1850 and returned since I found out using Volume control via Bluetooth does not work well with my iPhone.

    • Just to confirm you are aware, the volume on the speakers & the volume on your iPhone are separate from each other.
So if you want the iPhone volume control to allow from quiet all the way to loud, you should be setting the Edifier speaker volume (using remote or volume knob) to over medium volume. Then control the volume from the iPhone.
If you have the speaker volume too low, you will be limiting your volume control from iPhone.

      • I know what you mean. I just need a simple Bluetooth speaker that just works.

        • I see, I am guessing those small battery-powered ones change the iPhone volume when you press the +/- volume buttons.

Only experience I have with using Bluetooth is with a sound-bar, and it functions the same way as the Edifier’s (set sound-bar volume -then use iPhone volume).

        • get a Nobsound NS-10G Pro (~$30USD I think?) and a set of passive bookshelf speakers and you'll be set.

it's a very impressive little micro amp, more power than you'd think and great range on the Bluetooth. It has no volume knob at all - your phone dictates the volume.

I've got it connected to some speakers in my kitchen/dining area - not as good as my main system of course, but it's pretty great.
