Curious, do you need a management station, or a pay-per-use online account to use these, else will it stream on demand to a phone?

    • I think you can use Ubiquiti's Unifi Video software on your own device, but believe they are moving development to their new Protect software which currently is only available on their CloudKey Gen2 Pro (which is a 1TB NVR also).

    • +1

I think you need a UniFi Cloud Key Gen2Plus model UCK-G2-PLUS to use it with the UniFi Protect mobile app but it will also work with the UniFi Video 3 controller software which can be hosted on a Linux or Windows computer.

      • There's 2 or 3 sellers selling them for ~$375 in the POSTITE deal, bringing it down to ~$300

Best price on Ozb I've seen is ~$275

  • Good deal, cheers. Been eyeing these off for a while now and this is the best price they've been by far. Just need to get a cheap ceiling mount now.

Have one of these, good clear camera but has no vertical tilt only rotate left and right so if you wanted to tilt down you may need to make a bracket.
Has a couple of different mounting options (plaster, pole etc).
For me works ok as it is mounted to view a horizontal plane, but if you were mounting high you may have issues tilting downward.
Other than that good cam IR is good too. I run mine from a Ubuntu desktop pc, software is free, runs the client from Chrome web browser (preferred)
Phone app works well for Apple, Android a bit choppy in comparison.
App can access a cloud based server when away from home which gives live view and previous recordings (which you can download).

    I paid $111 on a 20% deal a few months ago.

    • So you can use these as stand alone?

    • +1

https://unifi-video.ubnt.com/g3-flex .. an image on that page says otherwise about the vertical tilt. 63 degrees vertical, and 60 horizontal.

It does tilt down, the entire black lens part tilts up and down - maybe you didn't realise that? I have two and can easily move them up/down/left/right

      • True i did not know that, it never occurred to me to try moving the black part of the lens. As i said though mine was about right already on the horizontal plane, just occurred to me when i set it up that it only swivelled.

  • Recommendations on a POE switch? I have a ubiqiti access point already. Is the cheap tplink one ok?

    • +1

I run a edgeswitch 8P PoE 150W in the roof cavity. Powers cams (mix of Ubnt and HiKV) / UBNT router / 2 x AP-AC. Not the cheapest option, but stable and SPF options as I run a NAS too. I have a spare if any one is interested in Sydney

      • I run 2 x 8 port tough switches as well, 48v and 24v poe, they can get warm but are industrial strength. I think they were superseded with newer models.

  • Building a new house with eventual Synology, some coming unifi aps etc. Reckon I'm better off with these for outside, or something hikvision or dahau?

Was planning on no cloud key and just using a docker on the Synology for unifi, and then surveillance station as only 3 camera (I think) so just need 1 extra licence.

  • These are great cameras. I have 2 of them at home… one front yard and one back yard.

To run them you can either spin up a Virtual Machine with UniFi Video installed. Or buy for a few hundred a Cloud Key Gen 2+ which has a built in drive.

    Highly recommend them!

  • Are these adequate to use as a baby monitor?

    • +1

I find the most important part of a baby monitor to be the audio.

Baby makes a noise and the screen auto turns on, then from there you can decide whether you need to go in or not.

  • Looks like Kogan has it for $129 + delivery now also: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/ubiquiti-camera-unifi-video-g3-…
