[NSW] Daily $0.50 Dumpling Happy Hour 8pm-10pm @ Mr Chen Beef Noodle, Haymarket Chinatown

240

Four types of dumplings available in 50¢ deal, Included is Pork and Chive, Pork and Cabbage, Chicken and Corn dumplings, and Vegetarian dumplings. You can get them pan fried potstickers or steamed. For 9 people we ordered 9 plates of 12 dumplings for $6 each plate and added 2 normal plates of 7 Shen Jian Bao (Steam Fried Buns) for $10.80 a plate. All up for 9 people it was $75.60 or $8.40 each. I went today and it was pretty good I would give it 9/10 for food and 10/10 for value.

    Daily 50c Dumpling Happy Hour

I can see a trademark lawsuit coming out of this…

    • 50c sounds better than half dollar dumplings.

Is this cheap for Sydney? There are several places in Melbourne that do these types of dumplings for $7.90/15pc all the time.

Yeah this is halfprice for this store and they are quite big dumplings. In the same centre cheapest I could find was $9.90 for 12 pieces but that place was empty. Without a booking today, I'd say about an hour wait.

    • Where in Melbourne? Most places now are towards $10-11 for 15pc dumplings?

      • Empress of China and Shanghai Village on Little Bourke are my main two for this because they’re quite close so if one has a line the other isn’t far away.

It was pretty good. Don't get baited by the picture though, only the normal dumplings are part of the deal.

Isn't '(minimum 6 dumplings per order)' a bit of a ruse/BS? It's a bit like saying 'half a burger for 50 cents from Maccas (minimum order 1 whole burger)'

    Extrapolate to beer…

"$1 cans of 'ALDI 4X' now available (minimum 'order', a box of 12 cans) …"

    Or

'100 mL of 7-11 slurpy for 20 cents' (minimum order; an entire slurpy for $1)

It's 6 dumplings for $3. They should say that.

    • Are you only looking for one?

    • I see what you're saying but I think it's valid because for example you can order 8 dumplings for $4.

      • AHA… that does change my perception of this. I guess I misread 'minimum order 6' as (conceptually) 'must be ordered in lots of 6'. If you can in fact tack as many or as few as you like on to a minimum order of 6, then I am forced to eat 'humble pie'… that in fact does qualify as 'fiddy-cent dumplings' … just with a minimum order in place.
