The Beat that Flight webpage is not very nice to use.

They show lowest return prices from major cities to popular destinations, but they don't say how you can get that price - you have to keep trying different dates to find the cheapest ones. Compared to competing websites which can display a calendar showing the cheapest flights on any given day, this is not very user-friendly.

I suspect that these "headline" lowest prices are unobtainable, intended to draw people in but they have to settle for a much higher priced service instead….false advertising.

    Rep, please prove me wrong.

Er, these headline prices are on Jetstar. We even linked to Jetstar. They're entirely obtainable. You can only log in to Jetstar Club ON jetstar.com.

It takes time (and data) to build the date tables. Once you do a search on our site for say day x to day y, you can click more dates on teh results and it'll show you the dates around x and y, with prices (if others have recently searched those dates). We don't have the volume to constantly update every date and every combination, so can only show the ones that people have searched recently, so that they're still up to date and accurate.

AirAsia, for example wonderfully shows prices for every date. They can do that as they have access directly to their data and live prices. Us non-airlines can't constantly query them for the data, as well as all the other airlines. But as we grow, it improves.

Hope that helps explain a bit. We're still growing!

You will notice that I did not make reference to the Jetstar deals you've referred to in this post, but to other deals on your webpage.

I am comparing your site directly with I Want That Flight, which is a very similar competing website that displays the cheapest flights on a given date, based on a specified origin and destination, and allows you to choose a date range (rather than a specific date) when your travel dates are flexible.

For instance, I clicked on your link for "deals from Brisbane" on the bottom of your post, selected Wellington, and the website suggested that return flights were as low as $229 (from memory) but when you select the link, flights are displayed with the lowest as $650 and you're forced to select specific dates beforehand.

Not only that, but they didn't put sugar on my weetbix this morning.

I think perhaps you're expecting a little too much - live queries are the most practical path to ensure accuracy as @beatthatflight has made clear.

BTW the main link seems to go to JetStar's main deal page - the JetStar Fare Frenzy link is different.
