Dont even have to stay there to access the merina pool

    • +3

Marina Bay Sands pool is only for guests and they have someone checking cards there. You can see the pool from the Observation area where it's basically a non-stop stream of people taking selfies on the edge. I'd rather save my $500/night just to access the pool.

      • in the past i walked in and they didn't care

      • The pool reminded me of "the beach" at South Bank in Brisbane, i.e. a cesspool. From memory, we paid $20 to get the lift up to the bar. The lift pass gets you a $20 voucher at the bar. Same view as the pool and a lot cheaper.

    • Yeah you're definitely supposed to be staying there. You got lucky. When I was there they check your room number.

      • But I split a room with 3 friends once (it's expensive!) just cuz we wanted to use the pool really. It was underwhelming, especially at the end of a fantastic Hong Kong and Vietnam trip.

Yeah sorry, I don't see the bargain here. The dates I want in Oct are $400+ which is in line with the Scoot website. It was cheaper w their sale that ended yesterday.

  • How much are all the add-ons like bags and meals on board?

    • ~$12 to choose seats each way
      ~$80 for 20kg + one meal
      no entertainment

    • A lot! I flew one-way to Berlin in June - $432 each. By the time I added all the extras it was about $830 each. BUT, that included 25kg baggage, 3 meals, and the best legroom seats in the silent zone We had well over 100cm and no one in front. Nearly fully outstretched legs. I'd definitely do it again. Without looking it up, I think meals are $18 each, baggage probably $140 and legroom $180 (for the best legroom).

They have a whole section of 8 rows with extra legroom, and it's also a silent zone where you're supposed to keep quiet, and no kids allowed. I think there were also further legroom seats on the normal kid-friendly area too. At 6'4", the availability of a large number of legroom seats was totally worth it, and I preferred it to Qatar where it's very hard to get the legroom seats (they reserve them for people that need them, but also don't charge for them so they go quickly, though with 81cm seat pitch on Qatar and a good entertainment system, it wasn't nearly as bad as if you were stuck in economy on Scoot with poor legroom and no screen at all).

It's the first time on a budget carrier I felt I actually got my money's worth. We were able to sleep most of the way (legroom + no screens to add glare or keep people awake).

But, note well, there are NO inflight entertainment screens in the chairs. You need to BYO or hire one of their entertainment devices (iPads I think). Or you can use your own iDevice to connect to their entertainment over wifi at-cost.

And the airport service was a shambles. They clearly are the bottom of the pecking-order. Cathay needed more desks so they squished an entire 787 of people down from 10 counters to 6, and 4 of them didn't work. The airport staff just stood around chatting instead of directing, so everyone lined up for a single self checkin even though there were 10-15, and no one knew where to line up for the bag drop. Never seen such a confused crowd. I suspect they'd always be the bottom of the priority if there are any airport interruptions too. But we didn't have any issues.

  • Did you mean to say that you scouted these flights?

    • I leave that catchphrase for the flightscout peeps ;)
