Nintendo already have..
I was so hoping there would be a 'Pro' switch announcement that had, I don't know, maybe a stylus, camera, microphone, web browser, Netflix App, Amazon App, Messenger functionality… all the stuff that the DS and the Wii U had in handheld mode. Was anyone else disappointed with just a battery upgrade?
Well that isn't a Pro model…. it's just a typical hardware revision like they all do.
The switch 'pro' may come year later after the new consoles are out on the market.
I am hoping for a pro model too…
But I couldn't give a single shit about any of those things. Stylus? (profanity) off. Camera and mic? Wolfenstein and Fortnite both support voice with standard earphones, get Nintendo to fix voice chat in general before you build a microphone in. Browser? Wouldn't say no, but wouldn't pay more for it, same as Netflix, Amazon, and Messenger.
That stuff should be included, or ignored. But definitely not only included in a more expensive pro model.
I was hoping for a pro model with higher specs and shinier screen to make my games look good… you know, games, the only thing that really matters on a games console. Netflix and a browser (you can actually use) would be nice, but beyond that, play my games and play them well, I am happy.
@TheDukeOfNukem: I am sure you have read some of the articles that rumour a 'Pro' model may be in the works. I am coming from the assumption that the updated model will include a new version of the Tegra X1 and a better screen by default so it's not something I mentioned in my wish-list (I think that helps clarify your response).
You might not like having a stylus, webcam or microphone and each to their own preference, but it seems like a backward step to me when the Wii U handheld and the Nintendo 3DS have these features and now they have been taken away. I have heard that Nintendo removed some of these features due to protecting children online (or something similar?) which I can understand, but I hope they bring them back in some iteration down the track with whatever changes or safeguards are required.
Did you have a bad day at work or something?
@hey aj: lmao bad day, homeboi that was like the most chill thing I've said in 6 years.
I get where you're coming from, and I mean, I guess it's a step back in objective literal terms, but like, the PSP had a microphone on every model except the very first (and maybe that budget one they did in 2013, idk, no one bought one)… no one used it. Ever. That was built in too. I can understand the PSP camera not taking off (which btw, was pretty cool), as it wasn't built in or anything.
But that stuff isn't essential, or even beneficial really, for gaming.
Let's think of consoles with cameras
-Game Boy Camera. That was great, that was fun, that was also 20 years ago when a camera wasn't something you had in your back pocket 247.
-PSP camera. That was also quite fun, spiffy little thing, also from a time when you didn't have a (decent, I know VGA cameras were starting to pop up a lot in phones by now) camera in your pocket 247.
-DSi camera, kinda fun, maybe used in like 10 games total if that, about the same as the PSP. Fun, but not at all really useful for anything beyond dumb fun photos with friends
-3DS camera, fun little gadget for 3D photo on the go, good for 5 minutes and 5 games tops, pretty useless, plus by now you had a decent camera in your pocket 247
-Vita camera, won't even lie, it looked like shit and I only ever saw it get used in one game, WipEout, for a victory photo thing, and no one used it there anyway. There was that one time Uncharted wanted me to hold the camera up to a light source to figure out a clue or something. I ended up having to hold a literal lighter up to the back of it because it wouldn't pick up shit. Sucked.
-Wii U camera, literally never seen it get used. Anywhere. Any of my games, any game online, nothing. Supposedly you could video call with it, but again, never heard of that even happening, there was no button I can remember on the menu for it. Had my Wii U for well over half a decade now. Not once was it of use.The first half of those, were all add on gimmicks that people bought for fun. The second half were gimmicks built into the console that no one cared about because they already had their five minutes of fun and had better cameras in their pockets already. I can't think of a single way a camera makes games better / more fun that isn't AR, and AR games are usually so lightweight they can run perfectly fine where they belong, on your phone for five minutes because you don't have access to a real games machine.
Don't get me wrong, I am not for regression or taking things away. But at the end of the day, a camera and microphone is just another thing that costs Nintendo money, and you can bet if it costs them money it will cost us money. And if it costs us money, AND doesn't improve the gaming experience, I don't need that shit.
I won't lie, Netflix support would be nice and a basic ass browser should be standard (which would also, by default, offer a way of watching Netflix on there, just give us the (profanity) browser, Nintendo, it's been on there since day god damn one), but anything hardware wise beyond a nice screen and decent controller is unnecessary. Look at the touch pad on the back of the Vita. Look at the motion trackers in pretty much every console that has a motion tracker (that isn't VR). These are just more expenses that don't help shit. Even the namesake 3D feature of the 3DS was dropped later on to offer a cheaper option when it became apparent no one (profanity) cared about it.
Give us the browser. Maybe a few apps like Netflix and that, they got YouTube on there, but just give us access to the browser. It's a perfectly fine browser, I've done some stuff on there through the Facebook unlock thing, it's fine. Unlock that for us. I know they're worried about piracy and hacks and shit but newsflash, the Switch been hacked for ages. As per usual, in the chase to kill piracy, the only people getting stopped or inconvenienced are the paying customers like you and me. The pirates and hackers already got their mods and free games. Meanwhile you and me are left sitting here wondering why I can't quickly jump into the browser and look up a cheat code or something without getting my phone or computer.
tl;dr give us the browser, don't give us any other expensive hardware shit like a camera. Hell, (profanity) it, I genuinely didn't want it to be touch screen even, I was actually disappointed because it's just one more thing that can die on me, lo and behold, a lot of games do have the option, but there's like 10 touch screen only games, that's like .0001% of the library. Make the thing as basic as you can for a reasonable price, play games well, and that's all you need. An internet browser wouldn't hurt though.
@TheDukeOfNukem: I ain't going to neg you like you have my comments, it sounds like the Nintendo Switch Lite is right up your alley from what you are saying.
@hey aj: Homeboi, I didn't neg you, and if you half paid attention you'd see I agree with you about wanting a pro model, wanting a browser, wanting Netflix, the only thing I disagree on is you wanting more expensive things put in the console to drive up the price, that don't enhance gameplay in anyway.
Games should be first and foremost in a games console. Crazy that you'd rather have a camera you would never use, and that no games would use, than more powerful specs to make more pretty and more involved games.
Seems pretty basic. Really. Make a machine that plays games, and it's worth buying to play games. Make a machine that can play games but is way more expensive and has a bunch of dumb accessories you'll never use, and it's not really worth it compared to the original. The PS2 removed HDD support when it became apparent only a few games would ever use it. The PS3 removed the million little SD ports it had because it was an unnecessary extra cost no one used. Xbox removed Kinect when they realized no one wanted to be spied on and no one was buying Kinect games. Useless extra shit is called useless extra shit for a reason, because it's just useless extra shit.
PS yeah, I would love the Switch mini if it could plug into the TV, but that's a deal breaker for me. Remember when I said I don't like shit being taken out either? Well plugging your game into your TV isn't really a gimmick, unlike, you know, cameras and microphones on a console that has 2 or 3 games TOTAL that let you talk with a headset at all.
@hey aj: Hey dumb dumb, you have two negs on your first thing. Want me to make it three just to prove a point?
@TheDukeOfNukem: I can't say anyone has called me that before… what is hilarious to me is that you and everyone else seem to have completely missed the only question I asked the community. I don't care about anything outside of people's thoughts on the new Switch upgrade being only battery life.
But you just went full blast over the minor details and completely missed the main discussion topic. It's like debating a preface instead of the topic.
@hey aj: You can't say "I wanted a pro version with a million of these other things. Did anyone else want more than just a battery upgrade?" and expect a response only about the battery and none of the other shit you said.
That's like me saying
Wow, I really wish all religions would be outlawed. I think that they cause way more problems and people keep on killing and dying over stupid made up characters from thousands of god damn years ago. Now, does anyone else feel disappointed that Jesus hasn't returned yet?
If you say anything about anything other than the very last bit, you're just debating a preference.
@TheDukeOfNukem: From what I have read so far, you really like to exaggerate and dramatize your responses, “a million things”, “Jesus’ return”. I am not going to discuss religion with you as nobody will win when it comes to ingrained beliefs, extreme example or not.
Do I expect people to respond to the preface of my question if they disagree with it? Sure they can do that. But you have only responded to the preface and sent walls of text over about it. This is not my main focus, so your thoughts about it are secondary to response about battery life.
I agree, all you have been doing is debating preferences on what should be in the next iteration of the Switch, but not discussing the announced switch which only has improved battery life due to a more efficient chip.
@hey aj: Fair point.
This is a 2DS post. You should keep it more on topic.
@TheDukeOfNukem: My original comment is in reply to a response about the 2DS (subject matter) being 'end of life' which can be easily associated with Nintendo rolling out new versions of the Switch. Even the OP states that the 2DS is set to be replaced by the Nintendo Switch.
This context is what led to my question and premised dissatisfaction with the new lineup of Switch consoles set to replace the 2DS/3DS and their lack of features that the 2DS, 3DS, and Wii U all have but the Switch does not.
It's a natural progression of discussion within the topic. What I did not anticipate was the volume of your responses forcing me now to scroll (in portrait) down the page in order to see other comments.
@TheDukeOfNukem: Geez, "homeboi" here seems like he's still going through his edgy teenage phase.
@Nivlac: Your comment brings no value to the end of the discussion. I think we have already said everything we wanted to on this subject.
@hey aj: Indeed it doesn't, I was just shitposting.
My intention was only to let homeboi there know to dail it down a notch. His keyboard language was over the top ozzing with edginess thats all. He could have worded his replies in a far less confronting manner, but instead chose to be Ozb's keyboard wannabe tough guy. Yeesh.
Nways, shit post over.
@Nivlac: The deal is expired, we can all go home now! :)
We just got web browser and Netflix with android on switch luckily
@belongsinforums: Interesting, so you're just running android off a microSD card?
[edit] Just watching a video now, awesome!
@hey aj: Yes. Pretty cool!
@belongsinforums: Might be time for me to upgrade the microSD card!
@hey aj: you'll need a separate microsd card to your usual one. the faster the better though
It was $99 last year
They think adding a digital game adds value.
It's been significantly cheaper a few times now
Knew they had to reduce it now $136.57 . Still need $20 lower for me to bite .
By the way people, its $136 now.
Let it die dude
