Sorry about my ignorance, but why are Bose headphones device specific???

    • +2

Just the cord difference. Use a normal 2.5-3.5mm cord and you good to go.

    • +6

You can still use it with any devices (e.g. Apple) but the in-line remote (volume & play/pause button) will only work with Android devices.

    • +1

Only with wired devices, and it's the same with Sennheiser. It's to do with the remote on the cable and the different design interface needed for certain functions.
From personal experience, using an apple cable on an android phone means you can pause and skip tracks but you cannot adjust the volume on the cable remote.

    • Replacement cables are $5 on fleabay if you want to change your phone.

Great AAA operated hp. Plus for it and for OP, tho not for Gerry. :D

  • +2

Eugh, cable. Eugh where is the headphone jack?

    • +2

On the bottom edge of one of the earphones

      • -6

I meant on the android or Samsung, obviously….

  • +4

If they're $155 at HNs, Does that mean they're like $50 everywhere else?

    • +3

If you're selective you can find a bargain at HN - like my Panasonic OLED last year at $1722. It's actually a really good price for these.

      • You mean it was a good price ..right?

        • I think they mean the price of the headphones

  • are these wireless as well?

    edit: dont think so

    • Correct, cord only.

  • Is this a wireless headphone?

  • +1

interesting customer service- just called by the warehouse to say sorry cant ship today but will do so monday- have to say that was impressive…

    • I experienced the same with Amazon AU ordering on Friday’s (with standard user account and shipping).

Apart from wired v/s wireless, is there any difference between these and QC35 ones? Or for that matter QC20 earphones? Appreciate advise from experts.

    • +1

The 35s have an inbuilt battery which may not be replaced but the NC is the same. The 25s allow you to swap out the AAA battery making it better for long trips to Europe. If you a short of funds it may be better to get these and the wireless dongle to replicate the 35s. The NC on the Sony XM3 is superior to the 25/35 as I have tried both side by side so it is hard to justify the 35s UNLESS you value multiple Bluetooth connectivity whereupon the 35s are superior.

      • Which dongle are you refering to?

      • Great Thanks. Comfort is important for me and I have been reading that Bose QC35 is more comfortable compared to Sony XM3 so am hoping QC25 comfort is as good as QC35.

        • +4

Im pretty sure the build is identical. The QC25’s may be even comfier since there is less components inside (battery / Bluetooth etc) so it will be lighter in weight.

          • +2

@thebadmachine: Have both, and agree. Sure it comes down to your head, but my ears also heat up quickly using the 35s.
I mainly use the 35's day to day for the wireless, and 25s on the plane.

        • +2

Everyone has a different shaped head so best to try oneself.

There is really no ‘best’ because it really ‘depends’. I hope my post illuminated the issues that you might ruminate over. The 700s are a very real option for me given the improvement in NC so I wouldn’t get the 35s however if the XM3s come down to 200……

        • +2

QC25's are more comfortable (a lot lighter). They do have a build issue, where the lead to the battery compartment often snaps after the accessing\replacing the batteries a few times. (Not on all units, and more common with people that use them occasionally, so perhaps user error plays a part). They had an issue with the right speaker, but that was fixed after the early batches.
I personally believe the NC is better on the 35s, but not as good as the Sony XM3. (Not a lot of difference really between all three).
Tough call for you, the Bluetooth adapters have pretty poor sound quality, so be warned. QC35 you can program the main button to do tasks like change through NC settings, or activate google assistant.
I have found the QC35's seem the best for taking phone calls, but mainly for being wireless.
QC35's have limited Bluetooth codecs, and a lot of people complain about lag over bluetooth watching videos. They come with a cable for you to use, if required.
Battery life on all three is more than sufficient, QC35's are really easy and quick to charge and USB ports are everywhere these days.

the Bluetooth adapters have pretty poor sound quality, so be warned.

You have to keep the BT adapter charged as well, so convenience wise it’s an additional charge (on top of the AAA batteries).
I have always passed and still pass on NC headphones, but if I were to use these I would use them wired and plugged into a good cheap portable USB DAC.

Edit: I just checked the link to the BT adapter in the comments above. $99 is way too much, I’m sure you can get a different higher quality / better sounding BT adapter.

I have both, personal opinion is the 25s have better NC and the 35s are heavier.

If your keen mainly on the NC I would say get the 25's. But if you actually want to do the whole bluetooth wireless thing (calls music etc) well get the 35's.

      • +1

By getting the QC25’s you also dodge the Firmware update issues with reduced NC on QC35.
Also the option to get the Bluetooth dongle thingey and make the QC25 wireless.

      • Agree the 35's are heavier and my ears get hot. But I do find the NC better on the 35s, and like the ability to tune\customise via the companion app and\or master button.

        • Ya…I think the consensus is the QC35 NC > QC25 (just don't install the app which force updates the QC35s to a crippled form). I have both and I find the QC35 do a much better job at NC but the weight is noticeable. The QC25 feel like pillows on your ears with little clamping pressure while the QC35s have a hefty feel on both sides although the weight difference is pretty minimal.

    • Its become apparent none of this is really helping you lol

I got one for the slug (my eldest) - can't find any noise cancelling headphones for kids. Don't want her ears blasted while flying. This will have to do…

  • +1

Thanks, protip: Wear them with no wire and use some black sharpie on earcups and they look same as qc-35.

  • Also $14.99 shipping

    • free with shipster or just pick up in-store

  • Yea shipster isn’t accepting new members and there are no stores anywhere available for me.

  • Reviews are good, but there a few poor reviews. One reviewer states there is a design flaw after going through 3 replacements, and that you should avoid folding them up (as it damages the inside wire eventually and you lose sound).

    • Yes, I noted two build issues above, but was not aware of the folding issue. If you know what you are doing you can fix the spekaer issue and battery compartment issue yourself, but you require good eyes and steady hands.
For the price the build quality of QC25s and QC35s are both pretty poor, but this is a great price.

      • +1

I just read your comment. It is disappointing in something originally priced at around $300-$400.
Hopefully Bose fixed the speaker issue after the first few bad batches.
I think the DIY fix should only be done if you are outside the 2 year ACL period. Doing the work on a brand new pair and then trying to replace them may be an issue.

  • Thanks to everyone who provided valuable feedback. I have ordered one. This was $188 during EOFY and you could add a cheap 2/3/4 year protection plan at that time. Once delivered I will try to stop by store and see if they can add protection plan (if it's as cheap as it was on 30-June).
For wireless I am thinking about the Sony one - haven't decided between WH or WF XM3 (or maybe Sony might come up with a new model to counter Bose 700). My Sony AMEX offer is valid till 30-Sep so can wait till then.

PS: These QC25 were USD 99 @ Amazon during prime day lightning sale so looks like markdowns could continue to happen for cleaning up stock.

Thanks OP. Just picked up second pair.

I have one of this cans from 2014 when the QC35 was launched and I chose QC25 over QC35. I have taken QC25 on 3 trips and used it heavily and roughly. It has survived all the conditions and still going strong. The best feature about this headphones is the replacable battery which I find it very handy.

  • +1

Got text and email that my order has been shipped (Shipster subscription). Unbelievable!!

  • +1

Personally I would seriously think about getting the Bose 25 rather then the 35 because of the replaceable battery. Once the Bose 35 battery has failed you can't get it replaced so you don't get the NC anymore.

    • I'm sure it can be replaced…..right?

      • Not by Bose. You can get a battery and try if you like, but it isn't really designed to be replaced. Apparently is is glued.

        • What’s the expected lifetime of the battery? So they’re pretty much just standard Bluetooth headphones after it does?

          • @Chickenleg: "Bose claims that after 500 charge cycles at least 80 per cent of the battery's original capacity will still be available". That is average; you could get a juvenile death out of warranty. I'm not sure how you get bluetooth with the battery dead, however, there is, apparently, a physical cable so you can use that.

      • I checked, it cannot be replaced.

  • +1

    Couldn't resist…Thanks OP.

  • anyone bought the replacement ear covers off ebay instead of the $40 direct from Bose? Quality ok?

    • I haven't had any experience with the Bose ones but with the DH's Audio Technicas he found the aftermarket ones I got for him were actually more snug and better but the overall quality didn't quite compare. Though it was 1/10th of what the manufacturers wanted! So depends on personal preference I'd say.

    • Yes, they're ok. I paid $10 for 4 and had no issues. I was looking at getting the nuraphones but when I asked them a couple of times on their FB page they clammed up until they finally said there were no ear pads available for purchase so its a deal breaker for me.

  • Anyone noticed any HN stores that still have stock somewhere in the country. Didn't seem to be anything around Sydney unfortunately!

    • +1

Chirnside Park, Vic still has stock. If you order online for delivery your order might get allocated to that store.

  • Looks like they're all sold out now.

  • Does HN provide any tracking number with their delivery?

    • +1

Mine got delivered without any tracking but the product is excellent. Except for a hissing sound problem I have with my nokia 8 when noise cancelling is turned off, everything else is great.

      • Was your order marked as “shipped”?
        Mine is still “processing “.

        • +1

In my HN account it says order completed.

        • I find sometimes with them, especially online orders they will send a separate email to remind you it's on 'backorder'. Maybe they forgot or went to spam but double check.

Otherwise it will sit there for quite sometime if it doesn't get backfilled and not automatically refunded!

          • @H E B: Called them up - they said that the item is out of stock in all stores ( obviously) and said that they will refund money.
Anyways, not a big deal :) but not the first time with HN

  • Mine got delivered today morning (Brisbane). No tracking number.

  • Did anyone else also receive a dodgy pair with a very loose cable connection where the cable inserts into the left earcup? I only just opened mine and the right ear keeps cutting out.

    • Insert it deeper/harder.
