Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
        You missed the starting gun!"

I was going to as well, but after watching Philip Bloom and Brandon Li's reviews of the SC focus system, I've decided to just use the gimbal with my Nikon Z6/Ninja V in AF-mode. The AF and face-tracking is so good, I don't think it is necessary for mist scenarios. Pro Combos are due in mid-August.

      • We the face tracking be good for vlogging?

        • For sure, but Eye-AF only works in stills-mode. Have a look at the new Sony RX-100 VII for vlogging.

  • I had decided on this but the crane M2 looks interesting as well and might be everything I need.

Just picked the Ronin SC yesterday… here's a mini quick view of it..

1/ The force mobile thing isn't available in Android yet (no option in menu after all updates)
2/ The Active track, while it works when the camera is levelled, the gimbal isn't strong enough to hold the mobile while it's seated up on your camera's hot shoe, so if you tilt it too far up or down, the whole phone will just come flopping down and the gimbal spazes out. Best way to describe this is imagine holding a monopod with a camera at the end of it.. and you're holding it with the camera at head height vs 2 meters into the air.. you can hold it 2 meters into the air if it's straight up…but at any moderate angle.. it's going to flop forwards or backwards.
3/ Blackmagic Pocket 4k works but rolls to the left hand side because it's left heavy (need 300gm of counter weights on the right)
    4/ Hold A7r3 + 85mm 1.4 but barely, vibrates at moderate angles.
5/ 24-70, forget about it.. too long and hits the rear arm.
6/ Both the roll and Tilt (camera plate settings) are adjusted by the same lock.. so if you're adjusting roll, your camera might unexpected flop and slide forward due to the tilt axis.
7/ in a nutshell, for future proofing, get the S, if you're using A6xxx setups, then the SC is excellent.
8/ walked around holding it one handed with A7r3 + 24mm 1.4, the SC feels a lot lighter and I can use it for much longer than if I was holding the S, which I tend to press into my stomach with 2 hands as it gets quite heavy.

    • 1 - yep.
2 - Nope. Sounds like you haven't balanced properly, or are pushing the weight limit.
3 - Not a compatible camera as per the DJI approved list, or common sense.
4 - Sounds like a balance issue, or weight issue.
      5 - yep.
6 - That's why you lock the axis. I haven't heard of this as an issue. Nor did I have issues with this - i've owned the S and SC.
      7 - Agreed completely.
      8 - Agreed completely.

      • Thanks Broy,

        Genuine and honest question.

2 - I have it completed balanced to excellent prior to placing my phone on top, I was using a7r3 (657g) + 24mm 1.4 (445g). And I got the S10+ (which is listed as compatible) (175g). this comes to a total of 1,277g + a little bit more for the phone holder. it should be near the weight limit of 2KG yet.
But the problem I'm having is that it works when it's relatively horizontal, but if it tilts forward or backwards too much, the weight of the phone will over power the tilt motor.

3 - Totally understand, but just having it listed up there in case anyone wants to know the result.
4 - it was totally balanced to excellent. similar to #2, it's at the tilt angles.
6 - With the S, you can unlock the plate to slide forwards and backwards independently of sliding the camera left to right.. but the SC only has (1) lock to control both.

Once again, please don't see it my response as a troll, I genuine do want to understand my issue a bit more… and make use of the features more! hence.. it's an honest question.

        Thanks!

        • I managed to get two out of the three axis balanced with a mobile iPhone 6s and a xt3 with a mid sized lens.

Can't get the tilt axis balanced no matter what I try. I don't get the tutorial video where it says 45degs though..

          • @EnergicAU: A bit off topic, but did you come from a weebill lab? Rate the SC better (even if bigger)?

  • This or Crane 3?

  • I tested the SC at MET Expo in Sydney and it worked really well with my Nikon Z6 24-70mm F4. I think if you have heavy or long lenses the Ronin-S is a better option.

  • DJI official store is selling this at $569, but these 2 shops are listing it for $599. Is it price jack ?

    • +2

Yes, but the 15% brings it back to $509. Virtually all (non-eBay) shops are selling for $569. It's the final figure that counts!

  • Must…resist..

  • Now to find a Canon m50 to go with this! Or should I look at other options for creating a food channel?

    • I think the 4K on the Canon M50 is supposed to be pretty crap. Could look into a Sony or one of the cheaper Panasonics
