OXO Good Grips 9" Tongs $4.10 (~85% off RRP $26.95) C&C @ The Good Guys

1401

OXO Good Grips 9 Inch (23cm) Tongs with Nylon Heads (better for non-stick cookware) available for $4.10 at The Good Guys, in-store purchase or click & collect.
I love the Oxo Good Grips brand, and was just looking for some Good Grip utensils to stock my kitchen and came across these.

Doing some research, it's an absolute bargain at $4.10 for these tongs - I think the brand, and especially these tongs are good quality.
They also sell them in 12 inches, and also in Stainless Steel in 9 inches and 12 inches, but no where near this price.

For these 9" nylon ones though…
$26.95 @ The Official Oxo Site
$24.95 @ David Jones
$24.95 @ Kitchen Warehouse
$19.07 @ Amazon US via AU with Amazon Prime
$18.98 @ House but that's for the 9" 'SoftWorks' (not GoodGrips) version
$18.00 @ Everten

My tongs always fail with the hinge rivet rusting out… seems like a common planned obsolesce to me.

    • +2

I've used my Oxo Stainless Steel ones for 5 years without an issue, and they are still going great.

      • Ever wash in dishwasher?

        • +72

Only one night when I was really drunk.

          • +5

@cornbeef: If I could give more than +1 to any single OB post, yours would be it.

        • Normally i will not put those with hinge in the dishwasher, there are one-piece ones which have no problem in the dishwasher

        • +2

Mine live in the dishwasher and have never broken, while a number of other tongs have around them.

    • +1

Do you happen to use Finish? The phosphorous in the Finish brand detergent seems to eat aluminium rivets. I changed to Earth Choice which is phosphorous free and haven't had a problem with aluminium rivets in my dishwasher since.

      • +1

Thanks. I'll consider checking that out… Though most my life I haven't had a dishwasher and this seems to have been a problem for longer.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, nice find.

  • +1

Great deal, i love this brand too, thanks

    • +1

      Agreed, best brand

  • +2

    Bought 4! Thank you!

  • +2

    Feels like it's being OzBargained.
The list of stores it looks like it's available at is a lot less now…

  • +2

Had a bunch of oxo stainless (non teflon) for ever. They are the best and if I did not have 6 pairs already I would buy.

  • Cheers. Don't know the brand but awesome discount! Gotta be better than $1.50 Kmart tongs that rust too soon

  • +13

Just remember to give them a few test clicks before using

  • +3

    Rrp of $27?

I like OXO products….. But $27 for a pair of tongs?

    • Depends if it’s ‘thongs’ or ‘tongs’.

      • +3

        In Ireland, its the same.

  • Does the metal go to near the tip of the tongs? Or is there a bit of unsupported nylon at the tip?

    • Or is there a bit of unsupported nylon at the tip?

Pretty sure it's this, but it's been a while since I've seen them up close

  • Kmart nylon tongs - $1.50 each. Similar design but probably much lower in quality.

    • +1

      Definitely, not probably.

    • +1

Have tried the Kmart tongs. Main complaint with them is the heads aren't nylon coated metal, they're totally nylon - which means they soften easily when used for anything involving heat.

  • Are there ANY tongs that work in a dishwasher? I go though a pair every 2 months as the rivet falls apart.

    • +4

Surely you have your own solution to the problem.

    • +1

I’ve had these Oxo tongs for at least a year, going in the dishwasher once or twice a week and I’m yet to have any issues.

  • No good guy near me so I forgo this time :{

  • Damn, closest for me in Sydney is Tamworth…

  • +1

Bought it a few weeks back from kitchenwarehouse during EOFY, great product, no where near this price at all.

  • +1

The only stock left in WA seems to be the Geraldton store.

    • +1

And Bunbury and Busselton. I have to call them to order for my local, yuck.

  • Closest to me in Sydney is Port Macquarie 700kms away

    • Could try get David Jones or Myer to price match

  • In the specs, it said the tongs can be used in high temperature cooking, can I assume that I can use them to grab the deep-fried food from hot oil? Have anyone tried it yet?

  • Thanks OP! For once living in Coffs is an advantage, local store has plenty of stock

  • Darn. I have a cheap one from ikea and the wife won't let me buy another.

    • Tell her no thong no sex!

      • +2

What if she replies: thong, no sex?

    • +1

For $4.90? Tell her you're just heading out to get a coffee…

  • None in Melbourne

  • I actually have these, and hate them. I like most oxo stuff, but the angle of the nylon bits mean they are rubbish for picking up most food I've tried.

    or maybe its me.

  • My wife prefers 12 inches over 9 inches. Didn’t say why

    • +6

Probably didn't want to hurt your feelings

  • +5

What is the acceptable number of times to click these tongs together before using them?

  • 260Km to the nearest store from Melbourne, think I'll leave it!

  • -4

    Around $2 at Ali Express

It's not like I suddenly need tongs. Almost 5 star product on Ali Express. Save your money.

    • -1

These look just like the K-Mart $1.50 ones. They just don't last and completely different build quality IMO.

      • I doubt that OXO would be any better than the one linked to AE. They are all made in China. The review on EA is quite promising to be honest.

Higher price not necessarily equal quality and that is your assumption that AE will not last as long as OXO. I would honestly rely more on AE review since they are a good representation (217 reviews, 868 orders) of the product quality.

  • just asking is $4.10 the real price GG gets them for? I would love to know their profit margins.

    • Probably, how would they operate. Labour and rent costs are so high

  • +4

I had a dream last night I went into BigW and they had these for $7,and went "ah, that's why it's so cheap at bunnings" (yes, I know this deal is at good guys)

Ozbargain is leaking into my dreams.

  • +3

Just picked up 3 pairs from my local. Couldn't do C&C online but sent an email through and they had stock and we're able to put some aside for me so worthwhile asking!

  • I was able to ring my local store and order it for the same price for pick up in store. It's on backorder.

  • Have owned these. They suck. Honestly not worth $4.

Tips are too soft. Handles not durable the rubber comes off eventually

    • Ie: neg is for product issues

  • +1

Did not realise that this is nylon i thought it was silicone, probably returning them.
