Google Wi-Fi 1 Pack $149 Delivered @ Google Store

70

Was keeping an eye on the price of these as I thought I bought this RRP with my price protection credit card, turns out I used gift cards :/

Perhaps someone else that bought RRP (naughty I know), might be able to claim?

No change to 3 pack price it appears.

I’ve always wondered what do these actually do? Are they just signal boosters for wifi?

Isn't it cheaper to buy 3 of this individually than a 3 pack?

    • 3 pack regularly hovers around $300-$350 on specials.

    • 3 pack is $399.
      vs
      3 x $149 = $447.

      So no, not cheaper.

      • It's $499 on google store. So if you were buying from Google Store only for some really odd reason, then it would be cheaper to buy 3 singles than the 3 pack.

        • Fair enough, I went straight to officeworks site as it's closest for me if I was going to buy. Tossing up buying just one, or waiting til the 3 pack is on special again. Or going with a different solution altogether lol

    • Only if you buy from Google Store as 3 pack is $499. It's $399 at OW currently ($494 at JB).

I got the 3 pack from GG Ebay @$311 a few months back. They are quite old now, and are regularly on special. It was $280 a few weeks ago too. Anything over $350 and you are drastically over paying.

        • How do you find it? I am just replacing my TPG router, as it's at one end of my house thanks to the NBN installers being unable to locate it anywhere else at my property. Signal strength at the other end is not fantastic, so want something with a bit more oomph.

          • @nafe: Ideally they are setup as the only router, their range isn't great compared to Orbi for instance. Probably hence the 3 pack as opposed to the 2 in Orbi.

          • @nafe: These don't have more oomph, but they have multple points, which is why they are called mesh. So you put more through your house rather than a single router. You could probably get just a better router, or get a mesh setup. Mesh isn't great for copying files over the network nor for gaming.

            • @onlinepred: Cheers for the info, am tossing up the Orbi, the Google, or just upgrading the router to a more powerful one. Won't be doing a lot of file transfers, it's more just to get strong signal across the far side of the house.

The Tenda or Kogan Mesh ones work just as well. At around $99 - $119 (for a pack of 3 (on special), work just as well.

  • Anyone had experience with this and the Kogan option?
Are the features in the app the same/similar?

  • Got 2 lots of the 3 packs around $280 before. Needed the 4th, sold 2 easily.

  • I have been using these for a couple of years and they have been awesome. This isn't meant for super nerds and is instead targeted for end users that don't want to mess around with the low level details. The only UI for this is a mobile app. There are no wonky web app, etc.
In addition to the standard mesh capability where it covers every nook and cranny of a two story house (I have a three pack) it also has great family control features.

Eg. I have configured schedules where all the kids devices get disconnected from wifi at 6pm and turn back on at 9am. The TVs are in a different schedule. Plus it does other things like show the upload and download speed benchmarks for the last seven days. You can also do some techy things like reserve IPs, etc. Great when you have a bunch of IOT devices at home.

  • How many devices each of these supports? I am struggling with optus router as it max out..

  • Great way to slow down your whole network

With these coming out in 2016 and wifi 6 now on the table, as much as I want a mesh setup I think I'll either wait for the next hardware revision or use another brand that has updated hardware.

This deal isn't expired or it's been renewed since. Looking for a 3 pack myself but I suppose this is a good deal if you only need one.
