Fresh Roasted Coffee Beans Sampler 2x 230g for $20 Delivered (Save $12.00) @ Melbourne Chocolate & Coffee Supplies

90

Have purchased from these guys previously, great beans and excellent price for ~500g which includes delivery. Me and Mrs Texan mainly make 'proper' coffees on the weekend so don't want/need large amounts of beans in the cupboard going stale.

I just had an order from them arrive yesterday (took 3 business days). Beans will be freshly roasted and have the roasting date marked on the bag.

Coffee Bean Sampler includes:

1 x 230g Brazil whole beans

1 x 230g Uganda whole beans

$20 Delivered

Brazil

Brazil is the largest coffee growing country in the world. This bean is natural dry processed. In this method, the harvested coffee cherries are dried under the sun. The traditional natural process generates its unique earthiness, chocolate, and slight sweetness. That’s the quality we should look for in Brazilian natural.

Those who enjoy a smooth, mild cup of coffee would tend towards Brazilian beans. Cupping notes exhibit nutty, rich, cocoa flavours with mild acid.

This Brazilian Coffee holds Rainforest Alliance Certification!

Uganda

This coffee bean variety is grown in the foot slopes of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains in the west. A unique coffee that is naturally processed (Drugar). Roasted medium to best represent the true characteristic of this bean. Cupping notes exhibit rustic fruit, boozy raisins and cocoa with low acidity and full body. Suitable for all coffee applications, especially dark as it has a sweet chocolate flavour profile with a rich texture.

We are in pursuit of the finest coffee beans. Our process ensures only the best quality, Specialty Grade coffee is selected. Freshness is key. We roast in small batches to control all stages of the roasting process ensuring a consistent cup. We ship each order within 48 hours of roasting to bring you the freshest coffee possible.

    Looks tempting OP!
I usually get my beans from Five Senses… They tend to do a light/medium roast which is great for a filter coffee.

Can you comment on your experience with these guys?
(What sort of roast do they do?)

    Thanks for posting!

  • Decent price for the sampler esp with postage. I wonder how many times you can order that? Otherwise their normal prices aren't great. I paid $13.95 yesterday for two 250gram bags of different blends from my local roaster. Also annoys me when roasters are starting to shave off a few grams from the standard 250grams such as in this case with them selling at 230grams

I buy the sampler pack pretty much every time it comes out, which is usually every fortnight at least.

Perfect as I go through a bag a week.

    • Where's that local roaster out of interest?
Most 250g bags are $12.5-$15 locally for me. The only one that was cheaper doesn't have roast dates on the bag.

    • Seen this more and more. Seems to be a regular occurrence, I put it towards 20gms bag with postage being in 500gms, 1kg etc satchels.
Even if buying local - still easier to make one standard for post and pick up.
You are losing 2-3 shots of espresso.

Or they are just following the supermarket products and slowly reducing size to keep prices from going up too much with rising costs I guess. Off topic, I still cant believe Pringles got away with such a massive size change

    • Hate this 230gm bag business too.

I buy 500gm at a time from Pablo and Rusty's for the past 6+ months, $12 including delivery. Wouldn't mind trying some others but find it hard to justify the cost.

      • I just took a look and it's 24 including delivery…whereabouts is this deal? I'm trying to save costs currently.

  • Can someone recommend me a grinder please?

I recently got the Breville Smart Grinder Pro BCG820BSS from myer ebay sale for about $150 and it is fantastic.
I have also ordered from Melbourne Chocolate & Coffee a few times and coffee has been good.

      Budget? Baratza Sette 270w

      • Something cheap maybe. But not very crap.

        • +1

          Yes probably breville smart grinder.
For espresso look for something that is stepless or has heaps of steps to change through so you can dial in your shot properly.
          Baratza encore $200 https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/baratza-encore/?gc…

$500 will get you a lot more grinder than $150
But imo once you get over that you can less bang for buck for more money.

Should be spending nearly as much on grinder as machine.

Breville Smart Grinder. But I think its worth investing in a good one, if you have around $600 to spend PM me and I will point you in the right direction with a very good saving over local prices.

Find a 2nd hand Mini Mazzer. The replacement burrs are aren't too expensive

      • I saw two different super jolly for under $350 on marketplace. Have 15 year old SJ I want to replace with a Kony (smallest conical).

  • Sends within 2 days of roasting.

Hopefully stands up to my coffee snobbery

Pablo and rusty single origin seemed to have a sour after-taste no matter what I tried, so that was just the flavour I guess. They also went stale so quickly, requiring a stupid fine grind after like a week.

    • Didn't like the single origin from P&R at all, very sour indeed. Porter St is by far their best coffee.

      • Glad I'm not alone!

    • Did you end up purchasing the pack? Thoughts?

      • Uganda was nice, but personally prefer other flavours. The Brazil blend was undrinkable, the after taste hard to describe but very prevalent. Not sure if it was just a bad batch or the actual coffee flavour.

I'm always impressed with these samplers. Different sources for the beans keeps it interesting, and can always order more.
230gms is a good size, and the best thing is that (prompt) delivery is included.
