This device is running Android Oreo Go Edition.
Not to be confused with Lenovo Tab 7 Essential.

You may find certain apps on the Play Store claiming that the app isn't compatible with the device. You can get around this by spoofing the device on Aurora Store to download those apps.

Can't find any methods to root this tablet and there doesn't seem to be any custom ROMs available. But at least we can install VirtualXposed for certain apps/modules.

Never buy tablet with 1G RAM.
    Or you will suffer

    • +6

How does that make this less of a deal?

    • +2

never buy 1G RAM??… It depends on your requirement.. I use this as a display & connect via wifi to my NVR through a router to get the views of my security camera…
It is a perfect use case & works perfectly, at lest for me.. cheap solution..

my first computer came with 1MB ram. it worked fine.

      • You never had a C64 et al?

    • What if you’re just reading eBooks?

    Great post OP.

This is an android go. It is designed to run on low-spec devices. I guess it will do fine with 1GB RAM.

  • I've been considering buying an Android tablet to connect to a TV via HDMI, as a "touchscreen media player" of sorts for my brother, who has an intellectual disability. It would mean he has more flexibility than using DVDs.

Would this would be a good option for this task? The apps I'm thinking of running would be Plex, VLC and YouTube.

Hi. My 5 yr old has this tablet. The screen is awful and its mega slow. If you are using Plex or VLC to stream from some external storage I'd be nervous about it being grunty enough for your needs.

That said my little girl loves her tablet. So YMMV.

      • Cheers!

I love cheap tablets as much as the next guy and know their limitations but the viewing angles on this thing are atrocious unless you're dead centre.

    Need iPS at least!

    • +1

Good thing most often a 7" tablet is only being used by one person

      • Yes but sometimes you might be looking at it from menangle like if it's on the kitchen table, you're following a recipe, doing other things at the same time

        • +2

Considering Menangle is the end of the city train line I dont think IPS is going to help you

  • Nice links, have a pos.

  • This device is running Android Oreo Go Edition.
