  • Is it supposed to open something after clicking activate now? All I get is a fixit emoji saying ‘Didn’t find anything here’

    • +1

Yes it should - do you at least see a click through via "OzBargain Exclusives" in your click history?

      • +1

I think you misunderstand what he's asking, and it's probably due to us all being used to how Cashrewards works. i.e. I think CR has something like a 'go shop there now' link that takes you to the store.

You say above to click "on a special link on our OzBargain special page." But after we do, nothing 'happens' like it does over at CR. Sure, it now shows in our 'click history' on YOUR site… But I think he means there's no popup window, no URL to click to 'go shop on Amazon now', no further hint what to do.

So he's asking what does he do to actually buy something after activating your link… Just type www.amazon.com.au into a new browser window and buy something?

In other words, it's not intuitive. There's no visible confirmation our Amazon purchase will actually work/track/connect back to your site. For example, one might expect an Amazon window to open with something added on the end of the Amazon URL, like: 'ref=shopback'. But there's just nothing to indicate we're 'still activated'. At least, not if you follow the instructions above.

But if you click on the shopback cashback buddy, Amazon shows in THERE. But as I said, you don't see that by following the instructions above. (There's no… "You've activated the deal, now do this.")

I've used shopback 2 or 3 times but because I don't buy things every day, I too forget exactly how it works.

      • Thanks again for this great deal!

I remember seeing a confirmation page after activating these OzBargain exclusive deals in the past so it would be more consistent if there was some sort of confirmation after activating this deal.

Checking click history works but I did the whole process three times before coming to read the comments here because no confirmation page was shown.

        • Yeah, there should at least be a 'directions' or 'steps' page. (Maybe there is?) I bought something after my above post, but: a) I have no idea if I've done it right because I forget how it works, and, b) you have to wait 2 days to find out. I have used it before but have no idea if I've done the right things.

          I'm assuming that you:

          1. click the link in the description above
          2. login to the Shopback site
          3. click the 'person' icon at the top-right
          4. select 'Cashback Overview'
          5. then click 'Click Activity' and make sure your 'click' at step 1 is showing ready for you to go buy something. (In this case it shows "Ozbargain Exclusives".)

But THEN what… It's like someone ran into a room, shouted 'free money', then ran out again without any explanation and everyone stares blankly at each other.

So I opened a new browser tab, typed www.amazon.com.au - but realised I had no idea if that was correct. The only other thing I could think of was closing that window (just in case), refreshed the Shopback page to make sure the click was still showing, then I clicked on the 'ShopBack Cashback Buddy' instead (shows a red 'S' at the top of Firefox). It had "Amazon 12% off" in there so I clicked that. Amazon opened, and I bought something.

But there's no indication or instructions (unless I've missed them) if that's what you're supposed to do. In fact I still don't know if what I've done is correct. I forget how, there's no hint it worked when you checkout, and again there's no instructions/steps that I know of.

I'm not whining/complaining… I'm trying to give constructive criticism, pointing out the process is not intuitive. After clicking, there's no obvious 'connection' back to Shopback, which leaves people wondering, "What now!?" So fewer people will use it because they don't 'get it', and the business grows slower.

I think I have it right, but I honestly don't remember. However I do remember scratching my head each time over what to do.

I understand the terms are for one Shopback claim per member, but is a purchase considered eligible if it is made through an Amazon account that is different from that previously used through Shopback? For example, the Amazon account of another family member who happens to have credit from the recent Prime Video promo.

    • +3

Yes that's fine - we receive no information on the Amazon account you use.

  • -8

What happened to the flat 10/12% cashback on everything?

Running 'up to 12% cashback' - currently only 4.5% for electronics.

    • +3

Buy something for $30 and you'll get $3 back which is 10% :P

  • What is the condition to get full 12% cashback on items? Will buying the s10e for $749 qualify for 12% cashback on it?

    • +1

No lol theyve cut electronics to 4.5

    • +1

Cashback rates varies by category and are listed on this page. The S10e would qualify you for 4.5% cashback.

    • +1

You can try if you're an iOS user, but it's likely that cashback will be rejected as codes from that offer aren't approved.

      Cashback is not qualified for:

      • Purchases of gift cards and the usage promo codes or Voucher codes not approved by ShopBack
  • Does it work on promotional credit? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/468906

    • +2

Yes - see FAQs in the OP for reference.

  • +1

If you have amazon prime, Jenga is $11.42 shipped from the US amazon store. So, it effectively works out at $8.42 with the $3 cashback.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Jenga-Classic-Family-Strategy-Game…

    • There's been a price drop on that, it's now $8.54 before cash back

      • Wow. $5.42 is ridiculously cheap. Almost deserves a new post for it.

It goes for $27 on ebay, though 1 seller has 20% off atm for it. So about $22.

But even at $8.42, I'm going to get another one as a chrisi present for someone :)

  • It does say above: "we're offering all OzBargainers…", but I wanted to check - do you have to be a Prime member to qualify for this?

    • No you don't, but all the actual Amazon deals require Prime membership :)

      • Thanks. Please note my comments toward the top too. ;-)

        • Yes noted, thanks - appreciate the feedback :)

  • It says it’s not for prime membership purchases under ‘don’t’

    • That's for the purchase of the actual membership itself.

  • It says on the app that normal cashback is not applicable on ozbargain exclusive app - I know your post here says normal cashback applies, I just want to clarify that this exclusion doesn’t apply here.

  • I find the tracking on ShopBack is very problematic. A lot of time wasted trying to follow up.

    • +5

A Lot better than cashrewards that's for sure!

      • I’ve had the opposite experience but there you go! Mileage varies.

      • Funny part is the affiliate networks do the tracking which CR, SB and even the newcommmer GoCashback all use! If you stuffed it up with one then it would have stuffed up with the others.

        • Interesting! Can confirm it hasn't been the case. CR is excellent - tracks almost instantly. ShopBack often takes a full two days or not at all. Using same browsers, same techniques on each website etc.

          • +1

@Pratty: Depends on the store as some like Groupon use an affiliate network with terrible tracking. In the case of Amazon they're both using the Amazon Associates program.

  • Thanks.

  • +1

It says no cashback and try again when I click on the banner on the app :(

    • I havevthe same problem. Anyone explain?

  • thanks

  • Can you activate it. Then later purchase something through normal shopback link? Or we must buy after using the activate now link?

    • You can activate from any device and purchase through the normal link. The main thing is that you should have a click through to "OzBargain Exclusives" in your click activity.

  • +1

Don't forget if you received your $10 prime day bonus via email, you have to use the phone app to get the discount. I just made 2 separate purchases to get this bonus though, thanks OP!

  • Op, Does iOS Shopback App works or tracks?

    • Yes it does.

  • +1

The ball is in your court TA.

    • I think they've given up long ago?

    • -1

101 how to lose a massive ton of money. Easier for companies like SB who offshore most of their workforce :)

But hey if you're smart you have the potential of cashing in big time ;)

      • Sometimes you gotta lose some money to make money.

        • 6 figure digits for sure and the complete opposite of profit.

          • @Clear: Both cashback companies give you $5 to refer a friend and sometimes it's $10. Worth it imo.

      • -1

Easier for companies like SB who offshore most of their workforce :)

They have a Sydney office which I assume is staffed well for the Australian branch

I also believe that Singapore salaries are pretty decent too and close to Australian. Correct me if I'm wrong.

SB have a few big investors and one being parent company of Ebates. I believe they have the same marketing strategy as Amazon at the moment, as to try and infiltrate the Australian market and be the biggest player in the game increasing the customer base and then turning some serious profit

        • There were certainly a lot of staff at the meetup last year. I asked around and you weren't there sadly 😭 You could have seen how many.

They also operate on more than just AU and SG 😉

          • -1

            @Clear: https://www.glassdoor.com.au/Jobs/ShopBack-Singapore-Jobs-EI…

            37 recent jobs in Singapore
            13 recent jobs in Malaysia

            • @easternculture: Don't forget Taiwan, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand!

              • -1

@Clear: I'm just trying to make a point to your comment

Easier for companies like SB who offshore most of their workforce :)

CR had 40 staff in 2017 so I would predict they have maybe 50 now

Shopback have advertised 37 jobs in Singapore so I'm predicting they have over 100 employees in SG and probably at least 20 in Australia

So while you may think they offshore staff to save money, they are throwing alot of money around to gain customers and sacrificing marginal profits in Australia to grow the customer base.

Just looking at employee reviews for CR, gives me the impression they are struggling abit at the moment , either that or too much workload on employees which hints that they may need to employ more staff

        • I also believe that Singapore salaries are pretty decent too and close to Australian. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Singapore are one of the wealthiest countries in the world per capita.

  • Can wifey and I get this cashback in each of our Shopback account if we each got an eligible transaction on one single Amazon account?

    • +2

I think he answered that above: "… we receive no information on the Amazon account you use." i.e. If Shopback doesn't know which Amazon account is accessed, all that would be required is two separate transactions after the two people each click the activation link AND it shows in their Shopback account as "Ozbargain Exclusive". (Assuming they follow the other correct steps - which as above - I have no idea what they are.) ;-p

      • +1

        Yep spot on!

  • Hi rep

Shopback are advertising on the radio a full 12 % cashback on Amazon prime days. It's not specified up to 12% and the lady even says if you spend $200 you get $24 cashback.

    • +1

I heard this radio advertisement too. I agree that it's misleading that the words 'up to' aren't mentioned.

Rep, please take this feedback to have advertisements be more specific next time

      • Side note… Translation of 'up to 12% off' for most businesses: "Nothing you look at will be anywhere near 12% off."

I'm not saying this about Stopback… just stating why so few people pay attention to advertising. Which is also why we read Ozbargain for things like ebay and Amazon deals, instead of the email they send us. ;-D

        • Companies should be careful how they advertise to public because the ACCC is always keen on penalising businesses who breach simple laws even if it's an honest mistake

          • -2

            @easternculture: From ACCC https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertis…

Creating a false or misleading impression

Businesses are not allowed to make statements that are incorrect or likely to create a false impression.

This rule applies to their advertising, their product packaging, and any information provided to you by their staff or online shopping services. It also applies to any statements made by businesses in the media or online, such as testimonials on their websites or social media pages.

For example, businesses cannot make false claims about:

the quality, style, model or history of a product or service
            whether the goods are new
the sponsorship, performance characteristics, accessories, benefits or use of products and services
the availability of repair facilities or spare parts
the need for the goods or services
any exclusions on the goods and services.
It makes no difference whether the business intended to mislead you or not.

If the overall impression left by a business’s advertisement, promotion, quotation, statement or other representation creates a misleading impression in your mind—such as to the price, value or the quality of any goods and services—then the behaviour is likely to breach the law.

There is one exception to this rule. Sometimes businesses may use wildly exaggerated or vague claims about a product or service that no one could possibly treat seriously or find misleading. For example, a restaurant claims they have the ‘best steaks on earth’. These types of claims are known as ‘puffery’ and are not considered misleading.

  • For some reason the ShopBack iOS app keeps redirecting me to the Amazon app.
The Cashrewards app just gives me a warning that the Amazon app is trying to open and I can stop it.

Any way to stop it other than deleting the Amazon app (which I’ve done for the time being)?

    • +1

I just continued thru to amazon app and purchased, I didn’t see anywhere to say cash back don’t work with app. Hope it tracks

      • +1

Hmm I could've sworn I saw some text about it not working through the Amazon app but it seems you're correct.
It doesn't state that anywhere so should be ok!

CR on the other hand specifically says it's ineligible.

      • +1

Thanks but I guess that question is referring to if you click through to Amazon's website while using the Shopback app (and stay browsing Amazon within the Shopback app).

If you have both the Shopback and Amazon app installed, when you click on Amazon from the Shopback app, it automatically force switches to the Amazon app.

I guess it would be good to get confirmation that this method still tracks, otherwise trial and error on a cheap item I suppose.

        • Yes it tracks - iOS only.

  • -3

They’ve been VERY poor to deal with! Avoid this mob

    • -1

!? They seem to put as much effort in as CR does. I contacted them about the free Ozbargain credit when it didn't work and they applied it.

      • lucky you ! i have had very poor response rate.

        • -1

          Wrong deodorant? ;-p

  • Sorry, but can I get clarification on how to access the Amazon app from the shopback app? When I click on a cashback, it just takes me to its own page. Will clicking on the cashback and then leaving to the amazon app still let cashback be tracked?

  • Just to clarify - if I want to stack this $3 rebate and the $10 Amazon prime rebate, I do the following:

    • download both the Shopback & Amazon apps
    • use the OZBargain special link on my mobile to activate the $3 rebate (plus the usual 4.5% cash back)
    • purchase > $49 via the Amazon app to get the $10

    is that right?

  • +1

Any good suggestions of items for $10 exactly, ur thereabouts?

  • Will it still track if i moved my items from the saved for later list?

  • I got tracking for the items I purchased but not for the $3. Is this how it's meant to work?

    • +1

The tracking at the usual cashback rate is expected - with the $3 bonus coming in later.

      • You will earn the usual cashback rate on your purchase at Amazon Australia, plus have the $3 bonus credited into your account later.
      • The $3 Bonus will be credited into your ShopBack account by 15th August 11.59PM AEST.
      • Anyone get the $3 bonus credited to their account yet?

        • Nope nothing and nothing that has indicated it has tracked either

  • thanks!

  • -1

The $3 never activated for me even though I followed the instructions. Tried 5 times then gave up

  • +1

My purchase through the shopback app didn't track, so I put through a missing cashback thing, any chance if it gets recorded I'll still get the $3 bonus?

  • +3

My purchase using desktop (followed all the procedures, disable adblock, add to cart after clicking etc) but didnt get tracked :(

  • +1

My amazon purchase tracked but not the bonus, hope shopback doesn't forget abt this.

    • Don't worry umoddbro - We haven't forgotten, the $3 Bonus will be credited into your ShopBack account by 15th August 11.59PM AEST

      • Ok thanks!
