Does Amazon waitlist ever translate to the deal coming back online?
The deal will remain 100% claimed but if others remove the item from their cart or don't checkout in time, it will allocate the item to people on the waitlist. If you are on the waitlist get picked you then get 5 minutes or so to checkout.
You just need to keep an eye on it as it won't really alert you despite what it says.
For example I just looked at the site and it says:

So i joined the wait list, was browsing other stuff on amazon, and thought id just go back to the page for the lights to check if it only pops up on that page.. sure enough i could go through and buy them, only have around 2mins left on it.. So probably stay on that page if you do join the wait list! you dont seem to get notified any where else..

When there is a popular deal like this, Amazon normally put the deal back on, keep your eyes open, you got until midnight.

The site is really awful, but the best way I've found is to go to the main prime sale page.
Click the lightning deals icon (lightning bolt image)
Then scroll the left filters towards the bottom for "upcoming" and tick that.

Can you buy 2x base set, and then use the light as an 'extension'?
The base set (whether it comes with one or two lamps) has an AC socket that allows you to plug in up to 3 of the lamps off the one socket. So yes, you can buy 2 base kits and just not use the power supply adapter that comes with the base unit packs.
