You don't know how to use Google?
Google is not my friend. I thought you were my friend.
Sorry mate. I don't believe this item has been sold in Australia before Amazon, so not much information to go off.
They've just been released (finally), in Australia. This is RRP. I'll wait for some kind of discount.
Do these only work with Philips TVs?
No, but it seems to only react to media if you install the companion app on your PC (and hence it'll only respond to content played from your PC).
Seems pretty pointless unless your TV is primarily used as an output for your PC. Not sure why they couldn't do an HDMI passthrough that analyses the video like a lot of Raspberry Pi DIY projects can do.
Plex users can have the lights change based on what's on screen:
https://www.howtogeek.com/305277/how-to-set-your-hue-lights-…Good plug-in but doesn’t support the advertised use case.
Change based on the content playing.
The plug in allows you to automatically select scenes and settings that are pre-programmes only. These are really just mood lights, changing to match the TV scene, isn’t usable for most
@[Deactivated]: Shame as they seem to be a great idea…..echoing what Philips tried before with their Ambilight TVs.
@[Deactivated]: Dang, I thought that's what the plugin did. I know there's one for Kodi that does it, works pretty well, but then you have the same problem of needing to run it from a PC, not natively on the TV.
@IainND: If you find out how, let me know.
With Kodi, the PC is usually the Player, so not an issue. With Plex the Plug-In runs on the Server not the client, and the client is usually another device such as the TV and doesn't run plug-ins.
Still the plex plug-in is really good.Apart from a gimmick, I think having the lights change dynamically while watching a movie a little distracting.
Would like to have it working though, just for a test.
Works just fine for PC gaming.
Sorry, what does this do?
This is RRP? I can't find anywhere this price all above $199… Unless proven wrong its the cheapest to me…
FINALLY. I've been waiting for these to come out since they were released in every other country late last year!
I will wait for a proper deal though. This just looks to be their standard price. You can get these lights for $150~, but downside is they come with 2 speakers and a subwoofer, wireless Bluetooth streaming and a pc app. The logitech g550.
For me all the colour lights are just a gimick. I have colour Hue lights in the bedrooms and beyond the initial novelty have never once wanted to use colour. I do use the ambiance like "warm white" and brightness settings all the time. This just seems another cool novelty.
Also could you just get the same thing with an LED strip lights + controller which are cheap as chips now?
This is for behind tv and helps reduce eye strain by ending the Color on the wall
Looking for something like this though not as fancy, just a plain USB light strip with remote for the back of the cinema TV.
I just bought an E27 colour for $54 and a $10 stick lamp from Big W, stuck it behind the TV and it works a treat.
Alternately just put an E27 into this IKEA floor lamp and you will also get the same experience:
This kit syncs the light colours to match the screen - it's not a fixed colour light, it constantly changes to match whatever game or video you're playing.
No the light is a colour light no different to an E27 light.
It's separate software (Hue Sync) that matches the TV colours to the lights and makes them change. I use it today - my whole lounge room changes colour to music and TV picture with the app.
Bummer. I was about to jump on these but if it’s really only for content streamed from the PC, then I’m now having second thoughts.
Can do NVIDIA shield also
How is this a bargain? What the the usual price?
