Good price for the plus. +

    • +2

Definitely. And not just a few bucks cheaper. A new level of low.

    • +2

Finally something with a good price during this sale. Most items seem to have gone up even with the discount.

  • Is the G7 plus comparable with the Huawei P30 Lite for a mid range smart phone?

    • -2

google pixel 3a, nokia 8.1, etc.

    • +3

Found a pretty good comparison. Looks like the P30 Lite is better with double the memory (128gb) and fast charging.

      • G7 plus charging is pretty rapid, 40% charge in 15minutes.
Been always impressed with Motorola's turbo charging power.

  • +2

Was considering this yesterday when deal was posted with code, then unpublished as code did not work.
Price fell $50 this morning. Bought the Plus then found this deal was already posted.

    • +1

      Keep us updated

      • +8

        How's Julian?

    • So did you end up getting the Plus at this price posted after the 20% off. Great phone and even better price now.

      • +1

Yes $359.20, picked up at lunchtime. Yet to use it.

My 2+yr old G4 Play (~$134) was having issues recently - constantly shutting down, performing erratically, & battery running low quickly. Could have tried a factory reset…
        Was time for an upgrade😉

        • +3

I remember you getting one from that awesome deal for the G4 play. You must have been happy with it in order to get

another Moto, although going from a G play to a plus is a big step up you will definitely notice in all areas of the phone.

Have a G5 Plus and really happy with it's performance and clean Android. Probably worth doing a factory re-set on the G4

Play once you have set up new phone as it may fix some of the issues and still good for someone else or back up phone.

          • +3

@ozhunter68: As the old phone soon won't be in constant use, it will be an opportune time for a thorough reset. Probably will fix most problems, except battery life. Will find a use (eg mobile WiFi), like most of my old phones.

The G4 Play replaced earlier $40 - $80 phones, so I sweated over such an "expensive" purchase.

From Play to Plus is a big change, along with G4 to G7. But a $359 phone is a leap into to the unknown for me.

As happened with the G4 Play, a deal simply appeared when I needed a phone, at a good price. I didn't consider much more than that.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Forgot another big upgrade over the G4+… dual SIMs - that both work!

G4+ 2nd SIM was 2G, so of no use. Some other phones are dual SIM, until you insert a memory card. Dual SIMs + memory card is great!

Was previously carrying 2 phones - a tiny old one for incoming calls only on my permanent number & G4+ for monthly SIM swaps for free calls & Data. Cost me nothing each year for calls & Data, after Cashback😉

            • @INFIDEL: Yep, great feature for the G/G Plus range for the last few years.

My case use is similar to yours, except that after much experimenting and random porting/activating

data sims using them in prepaid modems/phones for data/hotspotting, as well as using two sims in my Moto G5 Plus

I have come to the conclusion that for me currently using two smartphones with one for my main number as

well as included data allowance and second for data only ( and second back up phone number to use whilst porting

delay ). For my current home internet use I will still mainly use prepaid modems as I find it's more convenient to leave

plugged in whilst in use not draining/wearing out smartphone batteries and connecting an external antenna

sometimes. The main reason for using two active smartphones at once rather than having two sims in one phone is

that I find it easier/quicker to use them like this as I don't like having to constantly to get into settings to swap data

over from one to the other and can monitor battery use much better. Also I often listen to online podcasts whilst

surfing the net and my reception is not great here, so again having two lot's of data going helps whilst out and at

              home.

Finally, another reason why I use multiple phones is that I have still got over 50 prepaid sim starter packs from all three Telco's with various amounts of credit on them stockpiled all bought cheaply on sale, so just activate sims as I need them using up close to expiry date first and supplementing with mainly Vodafone/Kogan sims in between. Yes, I have stopped buying these, except for irresistible cash back deals or Free/99 c Kogan XL vouchers lol.

Your preference and use might be more simple and streamlined if, especially if you have adsl/NBN at home and/or you have not got a big stockpile of hoarded cheap sim starter packs already.

              • +1

@ozhunter68: I think my use is thankfully simpler😀 Found second phone was easier when needing to be on 2 calls.

NBN box installed, but with the increasing data included with cheap / free SIMs, I just use that.

A regular question I was asked in SIM deals - how many SIMs in my stockpile. It's worryingly low now!

Just remembered 3 Vodafone $50 SIMs I was given. And found 9 Vodafone data SIMs (~4GBea) from a few years back (included with modems). All without an expiry date.. And a free Catch SIM arriving today. I'll survive😀

What's good with this phone? The specs looks worse than its price

    • great phone , i went from galaxy note 9 to this , nearly stock android so it is almost as quick as note 9 ,useful features such as chop chop instead of that shit bixby button , gorilla glass 3 which seems to resist scratches better , the only thing i miss is Volte

      • why do so many people complain about the bixby button? On my s10e I changed the settings and it opens the camera

        • +3

Usually it's people that have never even tried it and just regurgitate what YouTubers tell them. I use the Bixby button everyday, I can't imagine not having it. Same thing when people say stock android or iOS is so much 'faster' than the other when pretty much every skin is comparable these days.

          • @Ononono: i wasn't regurgitating anything , everytime i would bump the button bixby would launch in the middle of doing something , so in my scenario bixby was a pain in the arse

        • +1

"PAOK11" because you could not re-allocate the use of the bixby button on earlier Galaxy S versions, that's why.

      • +3

        I would like note 9 wayyy much….

      • Does it not support VoLTE and VoWiFi? I am about to buy.

      • +1

        How is the battery?

      • +4

i went from galaxy note 9 to this

Sweet Mary mother of God, why?

      • +2

The G7 Plus is a good phone, but the Note 9 is 2-3 times as fast in benchmarks: https://www.phonearena.com/phones/benchmarks#

So we might find that while the G7 Plus is fast now, it could get super slow in a year or two, whereas the Note 9 might hold up better.

        • Day to day normal real use has little in common with benchmark results though unless your an avid gamer or like video editing on your phone.

Saying that, the Note 9 might hold up better though in the long run, but at around 3 times the price, so it should.

  • +1

is the good guys stock dual sim + memory card (3x slots)?

    • +2

      Yes.

  • So Aus version of g7 doesn't have compass? Magnetometer (which I'm guessing is what determines it) only listed on g7plus on the Australian Motorola site.

    • it's a market dependant feature.

      • Aussies easily get lost.

  • +2

Great phone… dual sim as well. Fantastic screen, have had it for 2 weeks and does a great job for a ~$300 phone.

    • is the GG stock dual sim as well?
does it have a 3rd dedicated slot for memory card?

      • +3

It comes with dedicated slot for the memory card no matter if it's dual sim or single sim.

    • Do you get the blue-ish whites as per the review on gsm arena?

    • +1

      hi, does the dual sim support sim1 4g, sim2 3g ?

  • Do they have wireless charging?

  • -4

Pay little extra get the Mi 9.. way better.

  • +8

I have the g6 plus and LOVE it, this has a bigger screen and even faster cpu, I'd grab in a second if I didnt get mine in Jan…..

    • +3

OfficeWorks were clearing the G6 plus for $299 until a few weeks ago, so a good price for the G7 plus.

      • +1

TGG still don't appear to have cleared their G6 Plus, so surprised they have done the G7 Plus at this price.

This is about the price the phone should be. I have been surprised at how expensive this and the G6 Plus have been at OW and TGG.

    • +2

Same. Have the G6+, bought at OW for less than $300 a while back. Camera is fine for this tradie and 4 months in, still no scratches. Ebay cover and screen protector and I've dropped it heaps. Can't complain, turbo charge works great.

      • I have the G6+ as well, and that screen is seriously tough. I managed to slam mine face first into a metal table edge, no cracks, no scratches.

It was a serious "WTAF?" moment for me.

Hopefully the G7 is faster though - the G6+ is ok, but there are more than a few times I find it a bit sluggish.

  • What's the camera like on the G7? I have a Moto G5 S and the camera is terrible! Is it worth getting the G7 Plus over the regular G7?

    • Do you mean the G5S Plus?

      I don't think there was a non Plus G5S?

      What is wrong with it?
I think it is a good.

    • +1

I've got a G5 Plus and the camera is terrible too

  • +2

Spewing, paid ~$400 at mobileciti on the weekend

  • +1

Hmmmm, This code can't be applied to your order.

    • +2

Used code to buy g7+ earlier.

      • +1

Tried both g7 and g7 plus.
        Not working for me :(

    • +2

I just tested it and it's working for me

      • +1

Worked for me at 5pm today (2.5 hours ago).

  • Rear camera listed on the GG Ebay page as 12MP? Isn't it 15+5 or something with a 12MP front?

  • For some reason I was thinking lg 😁

  • +2

How does this compare to LG V30+?

    • +3

I've got a V30+ and my wife has a G7+ from the last Good Guys special for $100 off RRP (kicking myself a little bit now it's $40 cheaper)

What in particular did you want to compare?

Obvious stuff like the Moto has better software updates & handy add ons like the chop chop torch, whereas the LG has the fugly skin and slow to no updates. Real dual cameras with the handy wide angle on the LG (I'm using the Google Camera mod, actually using all the non-root make it like a Pixel 2XL stuff), but the Moto camera is pretty damn good for the money.

They're very similar in the hand size wise, the screens are similar sized if you ignore the notch, but there's the OLED vs LCD difference there, but it is a much brighter LCD than the one in her previous G5S+ so more visible in daylight. The stereo speakers in the Moto are noticeably better, but I do most listening through headphones so meh.

  • Nice spot OP, thinking of upgrading from the G5.

Is the camera the main upgrade on the G7 from G5?
    Anyone made that switch?

Some say the G7 has NFC in Oz, others don't, interested to see if anyone who got one from GG's can confirm.

    • +1

My wife went from G5S+ to G7+ and it is a noticeable jump up camera wise, so in theory that jump would be even bigger for you. We primarily did it for the larger screen for her watching Netflix on the phone all the time while our kid hogs the TV

I think hers has NFC and was from the last eBay/GG sale where they were $100 off, can confirm NFC when she gets home if you want?

It's the dual sim plus SD model (none of that second sim or SD stuff, it has three spots in the tray to use both sims and SD together)

      • +1

She got home sooner than I thought - hers has NFC

  • How's the camera of this phone? Any good in low light compare to samsung note 9 etc?

  • Nice, but please someone with know - what is a decent phone around the $200-$350 mark that is around 5inch in size?? I'm sick of all phones being phablets! The small phone market is shrinking constantly. I went from a OnePlus One 5.5inch to an Iphone 5s (my first iphone) as I wanted to downsize. I can only really find iphone 6s (for that price) and there are a couple Sony's that are around 5 inch, but the half decent ones are too expensive. I would be all over the G7 if it was smaller - the specs are plenty for me. Sorry for long post, I'm just not sure if there is any smaller phones out there and have been looking for over a year lol!

    • +1

I think you're out of luck unfortunately :(

      • Yeah I think you're right… Thanks for replying anyhow. I will probably just end up getting an iphone 6s.

  • How is this compare to redmi note 7?

  • +1

G7 Plus or Xiaomi MiA2? Current user of MiA1 and thoroughly impressed with Android One.

  • Does anyone know TGG return policy? I bought the G7 last night, but after reading the comments and seeing that the G7 plus is also on sale - realised I should get the plus instead. It's ready for collection.

TGG website doesn't seem to have a returns policy on 'change of mind'
The only thing I can find is:
    d) if you are returning Goods due to a change of mind, the Goods must be in a “re-saleable” condition as determined by TGG.

Don't really want to end up with 2 phones…

    • Call them and ask. I'd say if you explain the situation they'll be fine.

      • I'm overseas, so can't call. But got someone else to call for me and apparently it's fine to return. Hope it is cause I ordered the g7 plus!

  • Ordered, thank you

  • Interested in this….so can you confirm if the main difference between G7 and G7+ is the camera specs?

My mum currently has a One Plus 1 which is on its last legs. I'm leaning towards getting her either G7 or G7+ after seeing this ad. I'm sure the camera on this will be better than her current One Plus 1?

She may have the option of getting a One Plus 5.

Which would be the better option?

She is a basic user - bit of internet, emails, phone, messaging, fb, photos.

    • +1

G7 vs G7 plus Camera specs, bluetooth version (5 vs 4.2), fast charging is almost twice the wattage into the same battery in the plus, faster LTE (all thanks to the higher chipset), stereo speakers on the plus.

Having the same size screen makes it seem like not as big of a difference between them, but IMO all those little things add up.

For your mum's use case the camera seems to be the only real bonus & the others would be more nice to have than needed, though I guess that's up to you and her.

      • Thank you for your reply. I'm guessing this is the best choice around this price point?

I'm sure it'll be a big step up to what she's used to with the One Plus One.

        • +1

My wife loves the Moto actions (chop chop torch) so I didn't look too hard at other deals & just tried to get a moto G cheap, though they seemed better for our needs than similarly priced or specced Nokias. One Pluses were all a fair chunk more coin and I didn't like any of the Oppos or Huaweis in that price range.

The new Samsung A series might be worth a look, there's a lot of spec and price variation in them though.

  • I have the G7 Play baby version 5.7 even on 2gb ram does me good, love it. Cant be stock android no skins.

  • So from what I've read, the G7 Plus comes with a clear protective phone case when purchased from The Good Guys? Is it any good?

    • +2

The one in the box seems alright, better than many eBay el-cheapos I've had for various other phones over the years at least, or at least as good as a "good" el-cheapo if that makes sense? Cutouts all right etc, actually fit well.

We bought a similar looking (via pics on the net) spigen one that was like twice as thick and had much better buttons when comparing them directly in person.

TL;DR a $25 case shits on the free one, which is like a $10 pretty much.

    • +1

The one in the box is ok for something free… better than nothing. I paid $9.50 for 2 better cases and 2 tempered glass screen protectors. The cases I bought are a bit thicker/less floppy and have more of a bumper on the corners, which also gives a bit more clearance from the screen/rear cameras when the phone is placed on a flat surface. Had a similar one with my existing G5+ so stuck with the design.

  • +3

Thanks so much for posting this. Finding any phone, regardless of price, that has dual sims, dedicated sd card slot and Band 28 is very hard. Getting it for a bargain price is outstanding. :)

  • cheers, updated the old nexus 5x

  • Can anyone confirm if the G7 has a compass? I do a lot of navigation using my phone and I really need it.

On the good guys web page, under specs, it says "Hube-Compass" but I'm not sure what that means.

    Thanks in advance!

    • -1

      https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g7_plus-9533.php
"Sensors Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass"

    • G7 plus has but not sure about standard G7. FWIW I've been using a G5+ for the last 2 years or so, and it doesn't have a compass. You don't miss it too much when driving esp once you start moving (cos then the navigation app can figure out which direction you're moving in), but it can be an issue before you start, and also when walking.

      • Yeah my current phone is also a G5+ it's been a good phone, I use my phone for work navigating between people's houses. Once I'm moving your right it locks in very quickly, but before I start driving it can be really annoying trying to work out which direction to start heading in.

        • I have and hate the G4+ for it's lack of compass (along with a bunch of other issues I hope they've addressed in the new versions, overheating/slowing to a chug). Would not buy another phone without one.

          • +2

@CrankyCarrot: Ok I have received my G7 and can confirm it has a compass thank the God's (both the old and the new).

            Model number - G7 XT1965-5

            • @mr_fjackson: Cool.

The G4+ also famously had issues with overheating (which triggers a speed throttle), especially while using the camera/video recorder or during gaming. Any issues like that with yours?
