They might not be sharp, but if you trip over, while drinkinh, which my clumsy self has a tendency to do when drinking 'straw worthy' drinks, the roof of your mouth will beg to differ

    • +6

Similarly, if one were to accidentally sit on one of these, would it be easily removed or require assistance from lemmiwinks (not included in this deal)?

    • Thank you so much!

    • Its 316 Stainless Steel and FDA-Approved

      • +4

The FDA doesn't approve straws. Completely rubbish statement.
Please provide the approval certificates to back your statement.

      • +3

Miss leading info though. Lead people to believe YOUR PRODUCT IS FDA APPROVED, while the truth is ONLY THE MATERIAL IS APPROVED.

    NEVER BUY PLASTIC STAWS AGAIN:

    They're free at maccas thu

  • Don't buy these, they are not safe.

The product is not FDA approved (the material is approve for using with food does not mean the product is).

Especially when you have kids. DO NOT BUY THIS.

    • -5

Dont mislead the customers. If you dont understand the statements then its your fault

      • -3

Who is misleading them, most only read FDA approved and would think the product is safe.(AND WOULD NOT REALISE ONLY THE MATERIAL IS FDA APPROVED)

While it is NOT, and in fact, your product is extremely dangerous.

Although there is NO SHARP EDGE, it would still easily cut into ppl's throat/tongue AS THE EDGE OF THEM ARE THIN ENOUGH TO DO THAT.

JUST STOP MAKING/SELLING THIS DANGEROUS PRODUCT.

        • +9

Give the guy a break. They're straws. Stainless steel straws. The same stainless steel straws being did everywhere by everyone. Go do something useful.

          • @teacherer: Thanks for understanding and trusting us. :)

          • -6

@teacherer: I am doing something useful, on trying to stop them making/selling any of these dangerous straws, NO MATTER WHERE ARE THEY SOLD.

            ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Having sold the metal straws in the U.S. and Canada from June 2012 to June 2016, in August 2016, the coffee giant Starbucks announced that it had decided to recall 2.8 million metal straws after hearing four reports of children injuring their mouths while drinking from the straws.

In light of this, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers that children should not be allowed to handle or use the stainless steel straws because they pose an “injury risk”).

For this reason, we DO NOT encourage children to handle or use our stainless steel straws, even with parental supervision. Paper straws are our recommended alternative for children.

@DoyA: Correction it's Saturday night and you're on the Internet acting like your opinion is fact. If the product material is safe for food consumption and there is no sharp edges this product is not dangerous. The danger would be left up to the customer and their common sense or lack of it.

            • +1

@DoyA: You posted a deal for a camera bag. The camera bag has a strap! THAT IS DANGEROUS. Kids have been KILLED by bag straps!

HOW DARE YOU POST A DEAL FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS PRODUCT?

              • +2

@eug: Thank you kindly for bringing logic to the party.

              • @eug: How often/long do you usually put a strap around you neck, and how often do you put a fork inside your mouth??

                Then think about a straw.

                • @DoyA:

                  Then think about a straw.

Every single time I use a fork, it goes into my mouth.
How do you use a fork?

                  • -4

@eug: Then for how long? Does it stay in there for more than a sec?

BTW, Did you forget to tick the "I am associated with Direct-From-Factory"

OR are you the same person in a different sock?

It stays there for less time than your camera bag strap stays around your neck.

@eug: How sad you even not get paid for promoting this

Oh no, hopefully they don't hear about another very dangerous item that kids use, called a "fork". Its four sharp stainless steel tines were designed specifically to pierce skin and flesh. The only way to keep kids safe from such an irresponsible, dangerous item is to recall them all!

              • +2

@eug: Image going down to Woolworths Coles or Aldi and screaming at their employees for selling those reusable plastic bags…

We all know what those things have done to kids/animals/the environment.

              • +1

@eug: Haha, what makes that quote even more ridiculous is that it averages 1 injury per year, across 2 countries…

                • -2

@mapax: Not all sold to family with kids.

Plus not all adults are stupid enough to give them to their kids.

But there are many ppl would believe they are totally safe when they see the words "FDA APPROVED/NO SHARP EDGE".

That is why I am here warning ppl. I have no idea why this warning makes you guys angry.

                  • @DoyA: I don't see anywhere that says "FDA APPROVED/NO SHARP EDGE". It does say "316 Stainless Steel FDA-Approved" and separately "NO SHARP EDGES". I don't see how you could construe anything other than the FDA approval of anything other than the material. Then again, why do Australians care about FDA approval. We have our own standards and regulatory agencies.

            • @DoyA:

the coffee giant Starbucks announced that it had decided to recall 2.8 million metal straws after hearing four reports of children injuring their mouths while drinking from the straws.

Out of millions of straws sold, only four children managed to hurt themselves? I'm happy with those statistics.

        • I know a guy with quite severe disabilities who has been using stainless steel straws for months with no problems.

He can't hold a cup and drink because he gets the shakes so bad that his drink spills everywhere, but he can drink using straws. He has no problem with these sort of straws.

The reports from Star Bucks are concerning, but four out of 2.8 million is a pretty low percentage and the US and Canada are quite litigious, often leading to knee-jerk reactions. Yes, there is some point to the concern, but I think you are overplaying it. Do your children ever carry cutlery or pencils or scissors, or even Lego? All these things have risks and you have to train your kids to avoid them.

    • Especially when you have kids. DO NOT BUY THIS.

How does having kids make this product unsafe?

  • +3

It seems like anybody that tries to sell metal straws gets smacked down.

If the material is safe for food and there is no sharp edges I don't see a problem.

If you're letting children use a metal straw you probably shouldn't have children and as for people tripping over or falling over I would think it's pretty basic commonsense to probably not use a metal straw while in movement.

    • Same here. Do we need warnings on forks, toothpicks and kebab skewers "do not use while moving".

I've used metal straws and its ok. If you are worried you can add silicon attachments.

Personally id buy one with a washable bag, its a pain to transport when going out

  • thanks Doya for pointing out the issue. circulating such information is useful for people to make their choices

    • +1

If you use common sense these won't hurt you.

    • What other potentially dangerous things do you need to be warned about before proceeding to purchase?

What is the obsession whether this product is approved by the FDA? Australia has it's own agencies that regulate food and medicine safety. Given the current debacle with trans-vaginal mesh products that were FDA approved I wouldn't place that agency in high regard anyway.

Further, I don't see where anyone is suggesting that anything other than the 316 grade stainless is approved. What do people think that other stainless products are manufactured with?

    • If you look at the post revisions you will see it was removed from the title;

      "Set of 8 Stainless Steel Straws, FDA-Approved - $5.99"

      • Fair point. That is more ambiguous.

Also just looked into the steel grades quoted. 18/8 is actually 304 stainless steel whereas 316 stainless steel is a different alloy with molybdenum added. Both are food grade steels but 316 is more durable so it would be good to know which they are actually made from.

  • Can't pick up the pearls out of pearl milk tea with these. Pass….
