Had some incredible luck at Big W Pagewood. Went through self-service and found that the existing 10% off deal (see here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/462502) gets applied twice by the machine. Not sure if this is specific to Big W Pagewood or self-service, since a friend shopping at a manned counter at another store got the standard 10% off.

Each voucher is posted as $54 on the receipt, rather than $60, which is 10% off. There's then a further $32.40 discount on top of that, so an extra 10% off for a total of 19%
He got 2 discounts, first a 10% from $60 to $54 then a 10% on top of the total

Yep. They only go on sale a couple of times a year - the most recent sale was December, so many people will stack up on credit to use during eShop sales.

What probably happened here is some ignorant manager didn't realise the discount is applied at the end, and when a customer pointed out the cards weren't scanning at the discount price they manually changed the system price to be $54.

It has only worked for OP, it was a price error. Others have tried and failed. This isn't a deal under the posting guidelines.

How do you pay for these at self serve? I thought they have to activate them for you as you pay
You scan the e-shop card and before you pay an employee needs to scan their employee card.
The staff intervention on the self checkout is in place because the staff member is technically supposed to hang around to ensure that the card is either automatically activated after your purchase, or to run gift cards with a magnetic strip through the EFTPOS terminal to load the value onto them.
Without the intervention, much higher chance of unaware customers walking out with a worthless card (although not so much with cards that activate electronically via the barcode such as these)
Only $15 and $30 eShop giftcard left at BigW Pagewood, and they are only 10% off.
