I still can't think of a practical use for one of these for me.

    • Im same what can you do with these you benifit from or find useful

    • +2

Well for one it lets you turn any light (that's plugged into a socket) into a smart light. I bought two recently, one to control my outdoor festoon lights and one to control a custom lighting rig I have in a display cabinet. Sometimes works out cheaper than getting the smart version.

      The timer function is useful.
I use one for the sprinklers, as i prefer to manually start them but have a fixed run time.

You could use one to control a second wifi point, to limit kids' internet access.
If I walked to the router and physically switched in on, the kids would catch on :-) This way, it can be hidden.

Voice control has some use. e.g. turn on bathroom heater while still in bed.

A model with an energy meter would be better.
Any other ideas? I'm all out.

      • "I use one for the sprinklers, as i prefer to manually start them but have a fixed run time."
        Water restrictions in NSW :(

If your pool electricity switches (pool lights/fountains etc) are under the house or outside in an enclosed unit, you can then control these switches from anywhere with a smart switch installed.

When you are away, you can set a radio or lamp to turn on at specific times to make people think the house is not empty, during Christmas time, great to synchronise the timing of the lights. You can control any device to decide when you want it on and off even when you are out of he house.

    • I’m having fun with this whole smarthome thingy. Still wow-wing some friends when they come over. https://youtu.be/CAQylopJqsY

  • Is the plug Google home compatible. On its site in indicates using a propriety app

    • Ok found on third party sites that it integrates

    • Set it up first using the tp link app (Kasa) then you can add it to the Google Home app. "Hey google" commands work, so do the buttons on the Google Home Hub.

Two for $40 in store as well if you want to spend an extra $1.60

Yes, and if you can get 5% off GC from Suncorp, that makes it at $19 each. Also some of us may have the 10% off eBay gift card, that makes the deal even sweeter

Same can't find a use for this device

I use one for our bore pump so I don't have to go outside to turn it one when the tank is empty. It also has a timer, so I can use my phone to turn it on and set it to automatically turn off after 1 hour, which is how long it takes to fill up the tank.

    • I have a similar device. Plugged my USB charging station into it. Turns on after 10PM to charge my powerbank at the cheap rates :)

  • Having problem processing the transaction on ebay, getting error 70049 70084

Spoke to ebay and it seems TGG's paypal account is having problems, and was told to try again later.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

    • I had that last week and was told it was a stock issue at the store I'd selected for Click & Collect. It worked for a different store, luckily I had 2 stores easy to get to that I could select from.
It does seem to be a bit of a catch all error, so your cause could be different.

    • Yes, I had same issue, it is stock issue, try using other store

  • Is this better than the Kogan smart plug?

Kogan can measure power consumption, is cheaper. But this one has more votes, why?

    • +4

Most probably the brand and the availability in stores. TP-Link offer 3 year warranty. The size is a little less cluncky too. Kogan also stat a 0.3W Standby power consumption which I would highly doubt! I measured the HS110 and it came in at 1.1 Watts using a highly accurate power meter.

HS110 is TP-Links equivalent for the energy monitor. I would question the accuracy on the TP-link and Kogan energy monitor though. Depends what you are looking for.

    • Integrated with home assistant. Without modification.

  • Thanks OP, purchased!

  • Does anyone know if this it's safe to turn on/off a heater directly at the plug while it's running and have a proper on/off switch? That question applies for this plug and I guess just in general as well. When I use the proper off switch, it actually does a countdown from 5 to 1, I assume to push out a cool stream of air before it shuts down. Is using an automated plug for a heater any risk?

The remote timer is great when I'm in bed, but when it's freezing cold and I just want to go home to a warm room, I can't do that.

  • about time this gets down to sub 20

similar price last year at this same time during ebay plus launch

  • Paid $24 earlier in the week from Amazon. Excuse me while I Oz-Seppuku :(

    • +1

That Amazon deal was for the HS-110 and this is for the HS-100, or am I missing something here?

      • Nope, didn't even look at the product codes just mindlessly purchased :/

  • This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

That's what I get when I check the ebay site

  • Found a slimmer version whole at Jaycar(Broadway) yesterday!

Was $21.95, but it seemed to have crept back up to $29.95.
