This deal is still valid:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/424102
Includes "HD"
FYI. You can get this with HD for $33
How?
Please share how
I have this deal with HD and IQ4 box through Foxtel directly for $39, no contract. It’s worth calling them and requesting it if you’re paying more.
I don't think you can do that if you're a new customer. This deal applies for new customers
Why are we still paying to get hd?
why are they still using sd and HD? HD isn't even 1080p ffs.
Thanks but no thanks. Perfectly happy with my $12.50/month* Kayo.

Good for you. I still miss the smoothness of satellite TV sports. Kayo gets choppy even on 100mbps broadband connections
I miss the smoothness of cable. Satellite drops out almost every time we have heavy rain.
I've had satellite for 5 years and only once have I had any issues due to weather. I tried Kayo sports recently with my 100mbps fibre plan and it kept dropping in and out of HD, and stopped quite often to buffer (don't get this issue with other streaming services). When I'm watching live sport that's the last thing I want to see.
@bighorse: I think that's a reflection of your fibre provider or setup…
I've got 100mbps Telstra cable and use Kayo on a PC directly connected via HDMI (to the TV) and Ethernet (to the modem)… with this setup it works perfectly.
Currently using Kayo via Kodi/RPi (Matt Huisman's add-on) and I rarely see any choppiness.
I am using that too. Great mods by that bloke. Kayo is ok when it behaves but even at HD on a 4K tv the grass is kinda shimmery/pixel movement noticable unless you sit at least 3M+ away. I wish i never compared it side by side to my Foxtel… now i can't unsee the difference.
@Xizor: It is really poor, just like other streaming services. I recently got Netflix for a month and ended up using about 15 minutes of it; The compression on 4K is totally unacceptable.
If the way music streaming has gone is any comparison, quality/detail is hardly a concern for these services at all. Pretty sure pirates are the only people reliably putting 1:1 digital releases online for media across the board.@flopsy: What device? I find Netflix 4k on my shieldtv device quite decent. Same with Prime. Much better than Kayo.
@Xizor: Shield TV actually haha. Playback is fine but the compression is just horrible. Looking online, it seems like 4K Streams max out at 15mb/s~ and can drop as low as 8mb/s, so something like 5-10x less than 4K Blu-Ray average for films. Not expecting Blu-Ray quality, but the artifacting in dark scenes was distractingly bad.
Actually, the bit-rate for Netflix HD vs 4K (if you believe supposed experiments online) is no where near equivalent for the resolution increase. Kind of frustrating when you're paying extra for an arguably worse picture.@flopsy: Fare enough. Cant say i have noticed that particular gripe on my setup. I have noticed some issues with what seemed like noise/lack of detail but not enough to bug me. Netflix 4k uses HEVC iirc so its a superior compression, you need to factor that in when comparing bitrates. Just like x265 rips being lower size vs traditional x264 rips.
@Xizor: If that's true, about them using HEVC for the 4K titles, it would make up for the relatively lesser bitrate to some degree of course. Glad to hear it's not an issue for you though. Maybe it's just a setting or part of my hardware configuration preventing it from using HEVC for 4K.
Pffff I'd never give a cent to old Rupert. Been ripping Australians off for years. Not ozbargain worthy!
Him and Telstra 2 peas in a pod!
Wow, what an amazing deal, Paying to watch ads during my viewing experience has always been high on my priority list. FF.
Sports are ad free (during games)
(Unless its simulcast which is probably about 50% of the time).
Depends, definitely not the case for NRL or A-league. No ads during play.
@Xizor: AFL, NRL, A-league and every cricket game I've watched, have all been ad free. Not sure about other sports, I mainly watch AFL and cricket.
@bighorse: Even the rebroadcast ch7 stuff is ad free?
@[Deactivated]: Sure is. When ch7 go to an ad break after a goal for example, fox usually shows the players walking back to the centre and show a replay of something, a little bit of chat. Much better than being interrupted with the same ads every time there's a goal
@bighorse: awesome, I might have to subscribe.
@[Deactivated]: If you watch a lot of sports, and want it ad-free in high def then I definitely recommend it. Although HD is an extra $10. I pay $49/ month for sports HD pretty much, I don't watch any other rubbish. People tell me to get Kayo but I kept having issues with it, so i'll stick to my proper foxtel connection.
And although $49/month isn't exactly cheap just for sports, it's cheaper than going to the pub every weekend when I can just drink at home and enjoy all the matches live in HD on a bigger TV in my lounge room then the local pubs have
@bighorse: I was on $39 a month for 12 months for "Entertainment", Sports and HD. When that initial deal was close to expiring I rang up and they gave me another 4 months at $39. I rang again just now as I knew my 4 months promo was ending in a few weeks. I took the option of going straight to cancellations. The girl on the phone knew exactly what I wanted, and gave me 12 months at the $39/month rate, no contract. I didn't even get to the part where you threaten to leave.
Unless your on a contract, get on the phone, took me 4 minutes.
Kayo is cheaper, but I resell access to Foxtel Go for $10/month to a mate so I'm really only paying $29 a month. Even if I only watch maybe 5 hours of sport per week I think it is worth it to have minimum 1080 HD, sometimes 4K.
@Darwin: I've spoken to several staff and they refuse to give me better than $49 :( the best they'd give me is sports for $10/month for four months, just had it renewed for another four months. But they wouldn't budge any more than that.
@bighorse: I was also on the $39/month for 12 months Entertainment + Sports + HD expiring 30 June 2019 and received a reminder text last night.
Called up the number from the text and the lady said that deal is no longer available. I immediately then asked to be put through to cancellations and the guy on the other end said he would double check. 30 seconds later it was approved and the $39 offer was extended for another 12 months. He apologized and said these offers are only available through his department and suggested to get forwarded through to the 'loyalty' department next time and the deal will likely be extended again.
@tongaface: Problem is that's extending an offer you already had, I'm assuming it was a sign up deal? For existing customers they're extremely reluctant to provide that offer.
Foxtel Go Kodi add-on recently released for those interested:
https://www.matthuisman.nz/2019/05/foxtel-go-kodi-add-on.htm…
Quality only up to 720p?
Yep, or lower if watching ondemand for alotta stuff.
And try watching a movie past the first hour or so…. the stuttering and buffering becomes unbearable despite having 70/35 broadband. Don’t have the same issues with Netflix/YouTube/iptv/Optus Sports. Live TV is better but still seems to get worse the longer you watch the same channel. Seems like the OnDemand servers are the ones in the back of the room on Pentium 3’s with 64mb of ram….
Remember when politician's said major sporting events would always be free as a condition for letting pay tv operate.
Theirs a sucker born every day.
