  • Hi - have you checked whether the USB Posts have the correct resisters attached to trigger charging of iPhones etc that check the USB data pins to decide whether to charge or not?

    • Yes they do :)

        • damn you, now I have to look up what that is about :)

  • Does it charge iPad/Playbook at Full speed ?

    • Not at full speed, but does still charge them (I use one with my iPad without any problems)

If left plugged in over a year this powerboard will use between $25 - $70 worth of additional electricity over the year.

That sounded a bit high to us, so we put the query to the manufacturer

"We have measured the device to use less than 1 Watt when no devices are plugged into the USB sockets.

      1 Watt * 24 Hours = 0.024 kWh per day
      0.024 kWh * 365 days in a year = 8.76 kWh
      $0.20 per kWh * 8.76 kWh = $1.75

Obviously it would use more power if a device was plugged in to a USB socket"

      • I was wondering if it would reduce its power consumption when no device was connected or just keep making USB power.

But i can not see the need for something like this.

I have computers, laptops, PS3, TV's, and a STB all of which have USB ports and all of which i can use to charge my phone or other device when i want.

So if looking at something like this as a power/money saving device then there is not really any saving as it is using power to to something that many devices in my house can already do.

Many of the devices plugged into the USB power board probably will have a USB port you can already use to charge devices.

In that case, it's not the product for you :)

They're great for people who don't have all of those other devices, or who want to be able to charge devices away from them. I use one in my kitchen to let me charge my phone there, no computer or anything else with a USB port around, so it is great for that. Also great to give to less technically minded people who just want something that they can plug in and have work.

    • Care to back this up with figures (sonicentropy) ?

    • Where does this information come from?

      • That sounded a bit high to us, so we put the query to the manufacturer
