Merino Wool Quilts (Australian Made) from $42.40 Delivered @ Linen Dreams eBay

2301
PLOUGH

Australian Made Merino Woollen Quilts

  • Members went fully postal last time for these high-quality quilts, and tonight's low of 7 degrees (Sydney) and 9 degrees (Melbourne) together with a new 20% off coupon makes it a good time to do it all again.

  • Weight ratings: 200GSM, 350GSM, 500GSM and 700GSM (grams/square metre).

  • Sizes: Cot/Cotbed, Single, King Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King.

  • So a typical Queen 700GSM (their warmest) comes out at $78.40 delivered.

  • These are DRY-CLEAN ONLY. They do sell machine-washable quilts where the Merino Wool goes through an additional process whereby the wool is pre-shrunk then coated in a light layer of resin to prevent shrinkage (so they're more expensive). In my area dry-cleaning for a Queen-sized woollen quilt hits around $60.00.

Over 20,000 sales on that link alone and a near-perfect 99.9% eBay rating. Wow.

Part of the 20% off 248 Sellers sale.
Part of the 20% off 59 Selected Sellers sale.

Now PAY CLOSE ATTENTION or you'll MISS OUT.

  • Firstly, make sure you apply the PEOFY PLOUGH 20% off coupon at checkout (NB: min spend $50 before discount).

  • Secondly, The Phantom has been on their case, and this time **IF you include my fav code 'PHANTOMFREEBIE' in the eBay "Message to seller" field AT CHECKOUT, they'll throw in an Egyptian Cotton Hand Towel (random colour) for each quilt purchased (until they run out - 500 in stock). UPDATE 8pm 5/6: As they've now blown 500 sales they've likely run out of the freebie, but slot the code in there anyway just in case…

  • IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THAT PROCEDURE IT WON'T WORK. Please, pretty please, do not send an email or eBay message as they don't have the staff to deal with that kind of dislocated carnage.

Note they've only got so many of these in stock and ready to ship, and they're the ones they'll sell as part of this sale. That means they might sell out. No manufacturing to order this time…

For those that got this far, they also have the following at 20% off:

Notes:

  • May not post to some regions, and may charge a little more in some areas (eg: WA metro) - the postage tab in the eBay ad has some details.
  • These are not for you if you have an allergy to natural wool.

Low of -2 tonight in Canberra :(

    • +28

      You think that's cold?
It was 20 degrees in Darwin this morning when I woke up! I had to put my winter shoes on.

      • +16

        Reported to the Fashion Police.

      • +2

        where are your crocs?

        • +16

          In the river. It's Darwin.

    • Try cycling to work in the morning here! Rip :(

  • dang, i bought mine on the weekend! hopefully it'll arrive today :)

  • Would the 500GSM be alright as all seasons quilt?

    • +22

You're in Sydney, i'm in Sydney, and i've got the 700GSM which i need in winter.

But it all depends - on the nature of your housing (weatherboard? concrete?), how much weight you're carrying, your metabolism, whether you're holding me at night, etc. It's possible that 500GSM will be enough for you in winter, but it's way too hot in summer. Even the 200GSM is too hot for me in summer.

      • +10

I have to sleep naked in front of my open refrigerator in summer

        • +10

Physics says that won't help you as the refrigerator will heat the room overall. Physics man.

        • Pull out the shelves and sleep in it

    • I got one 500g last time and a 300g. The 500g seems completely perfect for winter for us. It will likely to be too warm in spring to autumn in Sydney.

They are great quilts. We got them to replace very expensive 10 year old silk quilts and my wife loves it.

    • +13

I got a 700 GSM last time and we find it too hot (Melbourne), came back for the 500 GSM now. Woollen underlay will warm you up as well if you can't hold TheGhostWhoWalks at night.

    • +2

I bought the 500GSM a couple weeks back on the last 20% offer for this seller. It is definitely not an all seasons quilt (at least in Brisbane anyway). I'd go for the 300GSM if you wanted an "all seasons quilt" noting that in the heart of winter, you would need to use blankets in conjunction with it. My 9 year old daughter has been using it over these cold 5-8 C nights/mornings recently and she reports that she never gets cold. Only using a summer sheet under it, no blankets.

    +1 for the description!

    Nice signature quote.

I'm Crystallised freezing now, and need to order an underblanket.

  • Thanks OP, needed a quilt, perfect timing!

  • Ordered the 700 last time, wife very happy. Recommended.

  • ordered the 500GSM. in winter I have a quilted cover, winter quilt, and another single summer blanket. hopefully the 500GSM can replace the quilt+blanket!

  • Thanks OP - Ordered 2 Queens and 2 Singles in 700gsm. The family should be happy :)

  • +9

I got the 750gm one last sale. The thing is HOT AS F$#k even now in winter. I probably should have got the 500gm one.

    • What is the room temp?

      • The room would be less than 10ºC. I have a pedestal fan next to the bed. I still turn that on and point it at my head during th night to sleep . YMMV.

        • +1

I think you're correct. Perhaps the 500GSM would be more suitable.

  • +14

The cotton covers on these are noisy. Like soft paper/crunchy sounds

    • +10

      Thanks. Purchased.

    • +7

noticed this as well, do they soften/quiet with age?

  • Ordered the 500 for myself and it kept me warm quite well last night. It should get me through Sydney's winter with no problem at all.

  • What are the dimensions of super king?

    • +1

      Super King: 240 x 270 cm

  • Is anyone knows if this quilt machine washable?

    • Despite my prior comment on the earlier post, they're telling me these are dry-clean only (not designed for machine wash).

A little odd given what the tag on my 200GSM says….

I doubt they'd fit in many washing machines anyway.

      • +2

They should fix the title and description on this page

Aus Made All Size MACHINE WASHABLE Wool Quilt Duvet Doona Blanket Summer Winter

        to reflect this.

        • +1

Didn't know they sold them till now.

I have to admit i didn't really focus on whether they were machine washable or not, mainly as they wouldn't fit in any machine i've ever used.

They're telling me that for some reason the 200GSM that was sent to me ages ago was one of their machine-washable ones (thus the tag), though i'd ordered through the link that i've posted.

They also just advised that the machine-washable ones go through an additional process where the wool is pre-shrunk then coated in a light layer of resin to prevent shrinkage. Same Merino wool, but additional process.

I think i'll emphasise these are dry-clean only in the post.

What needs to be corrected in the machine-washable ad? Looks ok to me.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I can believe they are not machine washable. I recently stuffed up my sheridan queen all seasons wool quilt because I put it in the washer. No longer fluffy and the wool all feels clunky.

        • +1

Thanks for that. I bought a king size 350gsm for eighty-something dollars. Well worth the extra for our usage (we've got young kids). Only 350gsm left in king size.

    • try it get the super king size one..in case it shrinks, you'll still end up with at least a double…lol

  • +7

Imo would recommend getting a size up, I have a queen bed and got a queen quilt and later found I would have preferred a king quilt for better coverage.

  • +5

    +1 for Australian Made.

    Support the locals everyone!!

  • Thanks OP. I have ordered one. They charge $1.8 delivery fee so total is $49, not $47.2. I am not sure if you need to update the title.

Edit: Just noticed that title changed from $47.2. to $42.4.

    • For which item? I thought they were all free delivery whether you're an eBay Plus member or not?

The cheapest item is the Cot 350GSM: $53.00 - 20% = $42.40 delivered. Yeah i updated the title once i realised.

      • Every item on the link you linked in this post has $1.8 delivery fee (on ebay). Not sure because of i am in WA

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aus-Made-100-Merino-Down-Wool-Qu…

        • Oh i see…

If you look at their 'postage' tab it shows a few exclusions, including Northern Territory, QLD Far North, WA Regional, SA Regional, WA Remote.

          I guess you're WA Regional?

          Anyway i'll update the post.

          • @[Deactivated]: I think it means they DON'T post to WA regional.

I tested with Perth (6000), it's free for eBay Plus member, and $1.80 for "Non eBay Plus* member.

            • @O O: It charges delivery fee to WA metro and WA CBD as well. So seems like they charge delivery fee to whole WA or assuming whole WA as regional.

              • +1

@Benzy: I've tested with WA metro, Perth (6000), $1.8 for non ebay Plus member, and WA regional, Bunbury (6230), and get this message

Postage: Doesn't post to WA Regional | See details

                • @O O: Strangely enough, I didn't get charged postage to Perth. I got a machine-washable one.

                  • @AlbyDuck: Yes, I've tried the 6000 postcode on some other pages, all free delivery, eBay Plus or not.

  • Can anyone recommend the king size quilt cover?

    • Yes we use the 500 gsm for queen bed, very pleased with the quality

      • I meant ebay sellers/products for the [cover]

    • I bought a 1200 thread count 100% cotton duvet set (Super King size) for $120 delivered from Amazon if that is a helpful yardstick for you?

  • Does the wool underlay need to be washed before first use? That is what the tag on it says but I am not sure if it will even fit in my washing machine.

    Thanks.

  • +1

Great deal except for the thing about dry clean…. Still. Keep warm boyz.

  • I bought a 500GSM for Brisbane Winter last sale, suitable enough for Brisbane Winter I believe.

    • +9

      Brisbane Winter

      LOL.

      • +6

It was suitable on both days.

        • +1

You mean, the 2018 winter then lasted twice as long as it would normally do?!

  • Just bought a king 350GSM, anyone have good recommendations for a quilt cover?

    • Just go to somewhere like Harris Scarfe (or another discounter). There will be plenty to choose from.

Myer also has a sale on now, and their Vue/Heritage lines are perfectly decent.

  • +1

Code doesnt' seem to work for me. Anyone else having problems?

  • Whats the difference between these and the cheaper wool ones at harris scarfe? https://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/bed%2cbath-%26-home-decor/be…

    • HS want $10 for shipping, so would only be cheaper if you can pick up. Although they have a King size at the same price which would be cheaper.

    • +1

Probably not Merino but Standard Australian Wool. Cheaper, not as effective as a breathable insulator. Still made here though.

  • +1

    These are the new Eneloops.

    • +1

Eneloop posts don't need as many updates where you end up with RSI.

  • +1

This oneis considerably cheaper at $58.99, Queen size, 500GSM. Any thoughts?

    • That is odd - will try and find out. WoolComfort is the brand connected with my post, and the link you've provided shows an image with that brand, however the eBay ad claims unbranded. Maybe someone has just borrowed the picture. It claims to be Merino wool, but the packaging shown doesn't really reflect that. They show the Woolmark symbol as well - i'm not an expert but that's got implications. Pricing structure looks a little odd though if you scroll through it. Curious….

    • good question. following with interest.

    • +4

OK, got a little more on this. Linen Dreams who own the WoolComfort brand are not associated with that seller, yet they are using their promotion photos without permission. I've suggested they issue a cease and desist to that seller and lobby eBay to tear them down as they're the actual publisher.

As a result i don't believe you can rely on anything in that post, so i probably won't spend any more time on this unless i discover more.

But the chances are it's an imported product & not Merino…

      • Thanks for following this up. I’d be wary of that seller too.

        • +1

Their chinglish eBay advertising "Stop saying "I wish" start SYAING "I will" kind of SYAIS it all. lol :-)

      • +2

I swear to devote my life to the destruction of piracy, greed, cruelty, and injustice, in all their forms. Mostly fleabay though.

Thanks Kit. 4C tonight, went 700. I certainly hope you have male progeny.

        • Ha! Good to see i'm not the only Phantom aficionado around here.

    • "Aus Stock" does not mean made or produced in Aust.
Just means that they have stock in a warehouse somewhere in Aust, which in my opinion implies that it is imported and therefore foreign made.
Given that they seem to be using somebody else's photos, I would way rather pay a little bit more for the real Aust. made product.

  • I can't decide between the double washable or non-washable? Worth the extra to get washable??

Anyone got the 3 in one before

  • anyone tried the pillows?

    • I purchased the
"2x Aus Made Microfibre Hotel Pillow Cotton Cover -Altern to Down/Latex/Memory"
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x-Aus-Made-Microfibre-Hotel-Pil…

during last deal, decent price & quality. Not bad pillows but would still like to try another one that's firmer & even better quality in the near future. Am a side sleeper but they're still better than the pillows I was using before it.

  • Anything Australian can’t go wrong, better than any of that American or European over priced crap.

    • I got the king 700gsm last deal few weeks back, as well as 3 X single. Very warm, doesn't feel heavy, and quality is exceptional, the wife was sceptical when I ordered but very happy once she saw the quality, so I would definitely recommended. The 700gsm was a bit hot a few weeks ago when it was like 15 degrees overnight but now that's it's dropped below 10, it's perfect.

  • +2

I bought 700gsm. Too warm and really heavy. Delivery took 8 days

    • +1

Yeah there were some delays with the last post associated with a machine failure as i've detailed there. This time i made sure they sell only what they have. It is heavy, but i don't mind that, but i suspect most would prefer the 500GSM.

  • +2

Bought the 500gsm super king quilt for our king size bed for the Melbourne cold. Kept us really warm for both my girlfriend and I. 700gsm would have been overkill.

Can vouch for the quality! Would definitely get the 200gsm for slightly warmer days.

  • Going to buy the 500gsm for brisbane winter….. UHHHHH

  • Bought 700 thanks.

  • Got a 700gsm last time they were on sale. The 500 probably would have been enough for a Brissie winter in hindsight. Although the 700 has been nice and toasty the last week or so.
Got a 350gsm this time to see how that would go for spring.

  • Noooo! I just had the a Queen 350GSM in my cart, which said the last one. When I went to payment it was rejected and said "Sorry, seller does not have that many in stock". To whichever Ozbargainer got the last Queen 350GSM I curse you! ;)

  • +1

In terms of timing, brilliant post OP (considering how cold it is tonight). It's akin to going food shopping when hungry.

Ordered a Queen 700GSM, hopefully the wife will be happy.

    Thanks….I think :)

  • 500GSM Queen out of stock so I bought the 700GSM. Should be good for Toowoomba winters.

  • Grabbed the machine washable 350 queen can anyone comment on how it compares and thanks op great post 👍

  • would [edit] the wool underlay work well under a waterproof matress protector? I have a toddler who sometimes comes into our bed and their nappy leaks….

    • I'll ask - might take me a while to get back to you.

    • +1

The word i have is 'no' - underlays don't really perform their intended task very well under a mattress protector.

  • +3

Drying cleaning cost will be more than buying a new one

  • Why does the 500gsm single say $75, and with the PEOFY discount it goes down to $60. But if i hover over the 'take the 20% off this item - show me how' link, it has the starting price at $53 and discounted down to $42.40. This doesn't line up with the $75 down to $60 in my cart when i checkout??

    • That link shows the reduced pricing for the cheapest option. But yeah they could improve their interface.

      • ahh of course, silly me, thank you kind sir!!
