These are just about to get massively faster and more energy efficient with new controllers - https://www.anandtech.com/show/14439/silicon-motion-sm3282-u…

Article addresses sticks but applies to any size/form factor USB SSD

Thanks for the heads up. The current speeds of the device will work for my purposes.

    • Presuming they all adopt that controller because it's cheaper. Quite possible. But also possible are price differentiation techniques and the need to keep building what they've already designed, meaning only the upper end products get it for some time. Also possible is nasty stuff like firmware based limitations

      • They wont affect the high end using parallel flash, these are to bring the lower end up to comparable speeds for a much lower price is how I understand it.

  • Thanks. I got 1

  • These are awesome, I picked up the 500GB around a year ago and I'm still impressed by the speeds everytime I use it. I'm sure it's faster then the Samsung T2 500GB but haven't measured it.

  • Go with Samsung T5, you’ll never regret

  • This looks so beautiful and tempting. And I don't even need one. How to stop buying this?

    • Think of the improved (and cheaper) versions just around the corner…

  • Should be able to hook up one of these to an ipad with the new ipad os

    • Probly cost about the same to get one with a TB of storage

      • Doesn't unfortunately.

        • Well ok, I always buy refurb. Around an extra $200 gets you 256GB and these might become better value as new models roll around.
