Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC Wireless Over-Ear Headphone $188 @ Harvey Norman ($179 if Price Matched at Officeworks)

140

Budget noise cancelling headphone. I'm looking at getting some NC headphones, and these may be the ones for this price.

Might have a look at the Momentums though.

Consider the Sennheiser Outlet Store too…$149 there if you don't mind refurbished in order to save $30. You do miss out on the joy of getting them in retail packaging though, and they may possibly have light marks/scratches (though I've bought three items there now, and all were as new, just repackaged).

Just picked up a set of RS175 there recently for $159. Excellent price. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd kick off a bargain post for that, but usually somebody has done it by the time I get to it.

    • I ended up returning/swapping two pairs of the HD 4.50s, one because of poor bluetooth connectivity, and a second for a stuck button. The third pair that I have has been great. Good to know that the two pairs of headphones were likely fixed and sold on as I had only had each less than a week and really weren't too bad anyway.

In terms of headphones, I think the HD 4.50 are pretty great for the price. They could be better in terms of switching on and off (sometimes the only way to really check if they are off or on is to power cycle them), and the microphone quality during phone calls apparently isn't that great (think it picks up a lot of ambient sound), but they are comfy and the noise cancelling works well enough on the train and in planes.

    • Just before christmas i grabbed the 4.40's with 15% discount - perfect units for what I need - ended up at $69 delivered.
I'll always buy from the outlet now.

I didn't even know this existed. That's so cheap for 175s.

      • Full warranty too.

Just that the experience of opening them up isn’t as shiny as when you’re hacking it out of retail packaging.

Actually, if you don’t enjoy hacking at retail packaging, I guess that’s a plus too. My items have been delivered in plain cardboard boxes, and easy to open.

  • Also Amazon AU have them for $188.

  • Have the HD4.40 and it sounds great. Better SQ than Bose QC35 and Sony XM3 IMO.

    • The 4.40 are different to the 4.50 in terms of sound quality fyi

      • So does the HD4.50 sound better or worse?

          Sorry, worse.

  • Had a pair of these before picking up the QC35II. The QC35II only had a marginal improvement on sound quality over the 4.50 but comfort and noise cancellation is chalk and cheese.

I have a pair of the HD4.50. I find BT connectivity is excellent, SQ and noise cancelling are more than adequate for a non-audiophile, and battery life is pretty good. The biggest negative is comfort. They are definitely a step below the top-of-the-range over ears for comfort. For a 1 or 2 hour commute, or to watch a movie at home, these are fine. But if you want to wear them on a long-haul flight they start to get uncomfortable and they don't breathe well so you get a bit clammy. On a 8 hour flight i need to take them off every couple of hours for a few minutes just to remain comfortable.

YMMV, maybe someone with a different shape head or ears will get a better fit, but i can't see anyone not noticing the relatively poor breathing/ventilation of the muffs.
