Yes they use most of the battery on the background doing mysterious stuff. Definitely have a server in China too. That's by law for Chinese companies

With the savings on this, I'd highly recommend anyone try find a deal on the controller too - big improvement to flying with phone's on-screen controls.

Unless you are extremely price driven, I would wait until July when it is expected the Spark 2 will be released according to many reliable sources. It is expected to have 4K video along with many other enhancements. Price will have to remain competitive to compete with many other drones.
They dominate the market, so price won't be as competitive as initially thought.

What's the realistic flight difference between this and the DJI Mavic Pro?
You really need to look at a side by side on youtube, the shot's just aren't even in the same ball park.
Granted the Mavic is more expensive but considering the original mavics go for less than 800, and the spark doesnt come with its $500 controller, I'd say it's not even a competition.
