For the record my order of 3 was cancelled and I received the $30 gift voucher too. The drives would have been great but I'm also pretty happy with this compensation.       While Amazon is huge I think they might've noticed this small uptick in sales regardless of being contacted by a few of us. For the record I haven't been charged and my order is waiting for dispatch.

      Largest online retailer in the world, with a sale that was on forums worldwide, that would have been a massive volume spike on the product code, and you think they need a couple of phone calls to alert them?

      Pretty confident their back end tech is a little more high end than that…

      • Indeed. Massive spikes are almost certainly something they are monitoring for both for errors but also to keep up with trends as rapidly as they can.

        They may or may not go and start cancelling orders, but I doubt the contacting of Amazon will have any bearing on whether they do it for all persons. The only reason I’d absolutely avoid contacting support unless it was 100% necessary would be to avoid the odd support staff deciding to cancel it in spite of any mass cancelation. Looks like a lot of people are getting shipment notices while on the same token people contacting support to modify the order drew cancelations. Given the items out of stock and/or 4x the price I wouldn’t draw attention or ask for changes that might see an individual order cancelled.

        • Agreed. It's pretty much up to Amazon.

          However, one of the cancellation reported was because the OZBer wanted the address changed. I actually contacted Amazon CSR to change my order yesterday (while the deal was still available), even a minor change on address line 1 was not possible. The only way was to cancel and re-order (so the CSR cancelled it and I re-ordered). Obviously, anyone contacted them today and wanted to change the address, CSR can only offer cancellation.

          I am hoping tomorrow morning, we might get a clearer picture on what Amazon plan to do with majority of the outstanding orders.

    • I had a shipping notice but if you go to track it, like mine, it is likely not even collected by the courier - they have just received a manifest and assigned a tracking id to it - basically its still sitting in the Amazon loading depot…. probably being sifted out for cancellation.

      And yep my notice was at 2am this morning after ordering 5min after the post was up here.

    • when i got these drives from the previous deal , it was delivered by UPS i - parcel and Fedex and took more like a week . Fastway within 24 hrs…

        The drives are on the plane right now. Customs will clear all of them in seconds. Fastway will delivery them before 8PM. Everyone will be happy.

        So impressed US to AU delivery can be done in 1 day now. Wow…

      Yeah got the same on my order. I definitely won't mind if they end up shipping it though, only worried that the extra days gives them a window to cancel it.

  • Have read with these WD drives that if the controller fails you won't be able to recover your data as it is encrypted.

        Got 6, so I can backup the backup of the 3 that were backed up.

      • Yeah true maybe if this one does ship I'll backup the $230 drive I brought back in April which in turn is a backup of a number of smaller external drives I have.

    • Generally, board or controller failure isn't as costly as mechanical failure in terms of data recovery cost. The data recovery companies have hardware and software to recovery the data.

      You can worry about data recovery after you actually received the drives. MSY sell some 3.5 inch USB 3.0 enclosures for around $25.

      I doubt these drives are encrypted. Probably running EXT4 file system, which will require some form of Linux to read them.

      Best to shuck them and format them yourselves.

    I ordered 2, then I ordered a 3rd in a seperate order 10 minutes later. I wonder if this will stuff me over, somehow.

    • Nope, normal.
      It's coming from the us , but it gets allocated in the fastway system when it's shipped.

      Got an 8tb order from last week that's doing that now, and only got to Sydney yesterday

        so 'delayed' on fastway is normal, its like they get the shipping notification/lodgment from amazon immediately and start a normal 'items in australia' timer, instead of having a delay until it arrives in customs

      I had an item coming from Amazon US a couple of weeks back. It'll be listed as delayed on Fastway's tracking for a while, basically the label has been created but it hasn't been applied to a local courier yet.

      Yes, I did and ordered just before 7:30pm. Order says will be dispatched June 3rd which very well could be when their next fulfilment from WD is due.
