  • wow thats real cheap!

  • I've never heard of a WD Caviar Green with 7200rpm… Great prices though! Wonder how much delivery is though…

    • That one's not marked 7200 rpm.

      • it is posted as 7200rpm - http://i54.tinypic.com/2evwaap.jpg

      • WD Caviar Green 2TB, 7200 rpm, sata2, sata 64MB

        • Its dynamic speed for the WD green drives. Runs at 5400rpm for normal use but boosts upto 7200rpm when doing large file transfers.

      • Ok, my bad, or rather Centrecom's bad, somebody mislabeled the picture.

Doesn't matter whether it's SATA 2 or SATA 3, conventional hard drives don't have enough throughput to make full use of SATA 3 anyway.

  • how much is shipping?

    • State Based Rate
Shipping to New South Wales $18.00

      Auspost Satchel
      Satchel for small items $9.00

      Vic Metro Rate
Vic Metro & Geelong Only $8.25

      • How much soft, packing material is going around the Hard Drive
that'll hold your data, as it's tossed^H^H^H^H^H^H transported
from their warehouse to you (everyone)???

(I obviously like to buy Hard Drives locally, eg, from MSY)

        • +11

Yeah… because a team of fairies transport the hard drive to MSY on a cushion of clouds from the factory in Thailand…

        • excellent words SkiZo

        • Umm, those are angels SKiZO, get it right! :p

  • Not bad. All their stores are in VIC. Maybe somebody might like to register to find out shipping costs to other states.

The SATA speed is irrelevant, as scrimshwaw mentioned above.

The one to buy is the one that has the capacity that you need, at the price you can afford. The 2TB has the best value (TB per dollar), but if you only have $50 then the 1TB is the one you should buy.

These prices don't include GST. Also the postage in VIC is 8.95 and if you choose to pay using PayPal there is a 2% surcharge.

On top of this - there is no pickup available for internet orders.

    • You sure? I clicked on the picture and the resulting page says Inc GST. Anyway isn't it illegal to quote prices without GST?

      • +1

GST is included. Good deal for those who are in Vic, but $18 bucks shipping interstate pretty much kills the deal.

      1. It's illegal to quote prices without GST
      2. The offers are also available in store which means you can pick up, just do the order process in-store.
      3. All other stores are going to charge you a price for shipping anyway, and most other computer stores like this will charge you a PayPal or CC surcharge anyway.
    • My bad - GST is included.

  • Those Seagate 1TB drives are apparently quite fast. Review: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/reviews/seagate_barracuda_7…

Shipping was $18 to NSW, from memory it was $9 to VIC. Paid credit card surcharge of 2%.

    Ended up getting
    2x 1TB (For raid)
    1 2TB backup.

    total was ~$198

Doesn't it say 1 per customer?

      • Yes it does say 1 per customer in the fine print.

        • +1

Oh, didn't see that. I just saw the red highlighted text just below the "Add to cart" tab.

  • WD Green are horribly slow. Unless you really need the 2GB stay clear. I'd rather get two 1GB barras for a little more.

    • +2

I wouldn't say horribly slow, only marginally slower in practice if I think about it. I have 2 of them and for data storage, you don't even notice the difference compared to the caviar black I have in there as well.

I will say they are very quiet so perfect for a HTPC.

    • let's just say you wouldn't use it as your boot drive (and not just because of the lackluster speed) - http://goo.gl/3Q0hB

though, that being said, they are perfect as data/back-up drives

      • Pardon my lack of knowledge in IT. So if I were to get one of these drives, how do I use it as a back-up drive? Buy a dock?

        • +1

That's one option. The other option is to stick it inside a USB enclosure.
The third option is to put it inside a NAS Network Attached Storage but thats only if you want to back up stuff over your network.

        • +1

Fourth option is to plug it straight into your PC internally alongside your main drive, pretty much any PC from the last 15 years should have connections for at least 2, maybe 4 or more hard drives.

        • Oh wow, thanks for the replies! I'll probably go get a couple from MSY since this sale is over):

  • +2

MSY prices on the Seagate's are the same once you add $9 shipping (Vic).

Based on getting one drive anyway.

  • Awesome price!

  • Great price for pick up in store, but only $2 cheaper than Umart if you need it posted to you.

  • Ps. They are 3.5" desktop size drives…
