  • I'd get those if I didn't already have the Bosch.

    • Which Bosch do you have?

      • +1

        WTW87565AU for the dryer
        WAT24261AU for washer

        • Thanks!

I’m looking for a new washing machine. It’s been decades since I’ve bought one. So I’m trying to work out what’s good and whether or not to go front loader (always had top loader).

          • @[Deactivated]: Washer ain't really that good. It's an 8kg with a small drum. Having said that, I've always preferred front load over top load. You can stack your dryer on top.

        • Do you like your dryer? I am tossing up between LG and Bosch.

          • +1

@lowKey: Dryer is fine. On paper, it uses half the energy the washer does. However, sometimes clothes can still be a little damp at the end of the cycle. Can be better, but I get by.

            • @Lesco Brandon: I see the "little damp" comment a lot. I wonder if the LG faces the same problem.

              • @lowKey: No idea mate. I heard good things about Fisher Paykel heat pump dryer. Sadly, it doesn't fit well on my washer

                • @Lesco Brandon: Sorry, some other questions about the bosch… (I don't know how to pm you) - can you turn off the auto off function. And in an emergency, how long would it take to dry something fresh out of the wash?

    • 11KG Bosch?

      • 8kg with a smaller than usual drum. Probably to prevent overloading?

Annoying, no postage to Brisbane unfortunately.

I have both of these and they do an amazing job. I paid $2300 after $300 LG cashback a year ago from appliances online.

They are QUIET! Put them in a room with a closed door and you'll be hard pressed to hear anything other than shirt buttons clinking on the drum.

The wash modes aren't setup wisely IMO and it can take some trial and error to find a good mode for your different loads. I'd be happier with smarter modes for blankets/towels/jeans etc but I'm used to it now.

The drier doesn't spin both ways, so sheets will sometimes ball up. Love that it's so much cheaper to run though, and there's no hot/moist air exhausted into the room.

The drier is ridiculously heavy. It can't be wall mounted, and you'll definitely need 2 to lift this beast on top of the washing machine.

The wifi connection is useful for notifying the end of a load, and that's it. When I had my laundry in the garage it was useful as I could never hear the bell, but now that I have a laundry in the main house I can hear the bell just fine and I've disabled it. I suppose you could turn off the bells on the machines and just use phone notifications if you're into that. The notifications still work outside of your network, so I used to also get notifications when I was at work and my partner was doing laundry…

    • So with an 11kg washer and an 8kg dryer, I'm assuming you can't transfer everything from the washer to the dryer? Do you do smaller washing loads or just hang the rest out?

      • I don't weigh my clothes but I've never caused an issue with weight. I probably wash ~15 items at a time? Or fitted sheet + protector + doona cover? The internal space of the dryer is larger than the washer if that's what you're worried about.

Drying a fitted sheet + protector + doona cover all at once is a bit inconsistent as they'll sometimes bunch up too much and come out a bit moist in the middle. It doesn't bother me as I don't have any time pressure to get washing done, so I just take out whats driest and leave the rest in another 30 minutes.

      • It'd probably be two weeks worth of laundry to hit 11kg, for a single person.

    • How long would it take to dry 1 or 2 things fresh out of the wash? Is there a quick dry programme?

      • Yes there is a mode called "Quick Dry", but I've never used it and couldn't say how long it takes. I usually throw in a heap of stuff at once which usually takes about an hour, can be up to 2 hours (usually because of a balled up sheet) or short as 30 minutes though. It has sensors that can end the program early once everything is dry enough.

        • Do you ever have the problem with clothes coming out a bit damp?

          • @lowKey: Maybe once when I first got it, but I don't choose the quickest settings if there's plenty of stuff in there now. If it's really loaded up I'll pick a setting that suggests ~2 hours, but it usually ends much sooner thanks to the sensor. For this type of dryer, you'll have to accept that it usually takes a longer time than a conventional one though. The power savings are worth it IMO.

            • @wendellX: Thanks for all the helpful information.
Have you downloaded any new cycles using the thinkq app? What kind of cycles have they released?

              • @lowKey: All good. Sorry I haven't tried download cycles yet and don't even have the app setup anymore.

    • Ballpark, How long does a load take in the washing machine?

Shame they dont deliver to WA. Good deal otherwise.

  • Bought the 13kg equivalent a tear ago at Costco, not too dissimilar price also had a cash back that took an eternity for.

Occasionally some clothes like kids socks get stuck near the door and don't spin. Very good otherwise.

    • the 13kg is much larger in footprint tho isnt it?

      • It's not standard height. Had to cut away my shelf.

        • that is a downside to the larger ones

Why isn't this as popular as the Bosch?

    • Korean. People always fancy European brand more
