Thanks! Saved me some time. Upvote for you.
Isn't the WD Green another DRAM-less TLC SSD in the same vein as the BX500? Seems no well known/respected sites have reviewed it, so it's not clear why it's the better pick.
Yep and I found a comparison between a 240 GB WD v the BX500 and the Crucial trounced it

The 240 [WD Green] drive is a better deal at MSY [ A$50 vs A$46 + A$12.95 postage] but a nice find on the 480.
The WD Green 240GB would be $36.80 Delivered but you need $50 minimum to use code PMUM20, it would work if you have other items in your cart.
I bought & installed the WD Greens into two different computers and both were so slow compared with the Sandisk or even the Kingston. This is after optimising, checking TRIM, proper drive controllers, etc. Maybe bad luck?
"So slow" in what way? You would really struggle to feel any speed difference in day to day booting / launching browsers etc with any of these drives.
I replaced a 5 year old 120GB Crucial with a MX500… I'll be honest and say I didn't feel much difference aside maybe from game loading times.
Nope, that's because the current crop of WD Green and Sandisk SSD Plus drives use a proprietary Sandisk controller that is also used in other Sandisk USB drives.

Does anyone have suggestion for a good Portable SSD for PS4?
Something like this and any SSD.
Thanks!!
'No ebay plus required' just like 90% of ebay.
Any M.2 sizes?
Crucial’s BX500 is a cheap option that will outperform any HDD as a boot drive, but it comes with drawbacks. The BX500's low endurance and application performance rank far behind most current-gen SSDs in the market. Pricing is competitive, but there are much better options available for just a few dollars more, including Crucial’s own MX500, making this drive hard to recommend.

Not that i trust toms hardware much because they are corporate paid shills but it is what it is
Go the WD green over the BX500
