Excellent phone for me, have never had an issue with mine, great deal!

    • +1

same. havnt had any complaints. as long as the next pixel doesnt have a dumb notch then id be keen on that.

      • Yeah exactly. Me too been a great phone.

I was contemplating the 3 and 3XL but don't want to go back to a 5 inch screen and the 3XL didn't have enough of an improvement to warrant an upgrade.

        • exactly. the only thing id want is wireless charging maybe but that notch on the XL is just retardedly big.

not having to worry about storage is great.

  • Good price. Very tempted. TA will send me bankrupt!

    • +1

      Not really.
If this was the Pixel 3XL, it would be worth it as that has a slightly better ingress protection, battery, screen, camera, radio, speakers, and microphone.

Although it has a decently better processor, even that is not as good as the Pixel 4XL/QSD 855. However the lack of headphone jack is a big drawback, I'd say it's still a fair buy at around $600 today. But that's never going to happen with Google's irrational pricing.

This Pixel 2XL is actually slightly worse than the LG V30, and that's worth around $350-$500 today.

It's a shame that Google waits 6-9months too late to release their phones compared to Samsung/Xiaomi flagships. When the Pixel 4XL does come out, it will likely cost around $1400, whilst be slightly inferior to the Samsung S10+ and that phone will probably drop in price to around $800.

      • Yeah I agree. For sure even my oneplus 6t is better than this phone

Wait for Pixel3a and Pixel3a XL tomorrow.

    • -7

I'm predicting just north of $1000 here. A lot of money for an SD675 (which is just short of the SD835 in the Pixel 2).

      • +8

Doubt it but we'll see soon. Considering the Pixel 3 can be had for $900 pretty often, that would be a terrible strategy.

$399 US + Aus tax should make it around $650 for the standard Pixel 3a. I'd expect the XL to be around $100 more. (Using their Pixel 3 US/Aus price as comparison)

Also I believe they're using the SD670 and SD710, both built on the 10nm process.

        • +1

Really hope you're right. I'm in need of a new phone. Will have to wait for some reviews though

        • Pity the battery is so small. Nowadays all phones should come with at least 4000mah as standard, both mid-tier and flagship phones.

          • @diaz: It's OLED and a power efficient chip. Hoping for V30 levels of battery life.

            • @giventofly: Let's see how much battery life it offers - if you want the stock Android experience and don't mind tinkering with your phone, the Redmi Note 7 with LineageOS and GCAM is also an option.

Use eBay discounted GC from woolies to pay, further 10%off

  • Been trying to sell my used P2XL for ages for much less. Not sure how many people are interested in buying one of these right now.

    • If you don't mind me asking what price point have you set it at? Is this through eBay?

      • Just lowered to $500. Gumtree and ebay.

        • I only just managed to sell mine off for $450 + free postage on eBay with everything in the box and even that took longer than I think it should have. Thank goodness for the $1 listing otherwise it wouldn't have been worth it at all. Best of luck. Imo $650 is probably priced right for what it is now. Any more and I don't think it's worth /2c

        • Try the classified section of OzBargain. should be a few keen beans there

        • Picked up one from Gumtree a couple weeks ago for $150. Had been dropped but otherwise in perfect working order. Nothing a glass screen protector didn't fix.

    • I bought mine for ~$870 from Allphones 10 months ago and just sold it for below $500 on eBay. Terrible loss in value IMO. Buyer was happy though :)

I wanted to have a bit smaller phone as my main phone so got LG G7 ~$490. Liked that phone for about 1 week and now will sell it as I just took on the 12 month S10e 60GB deal from Telstra.

      • +1

Yep I went to s10e and love it going from p2xl. Size is awesome.

      • 370 for 1 year, seems normal depreciation.
        Not too bad

        • Yeah but I had it only for 10 months and bought it heavily discounted. Biggest loss I've made so far :P

For Gumtree that selling price is ok but eBay you get much more (with fees of course). Trouble was less people were interested of it, normally I can offload a phone quick.

I'm one of the person who always sell my phone after 2 years. Based on my experience, if you want high return value when selling it then buy iPhone. Other phones will dropped in price like crazy in a matter of months. Other options are:
      - Buy Samsung S or Note series when they are on sale. (Not sure if S10e will have high return value in the future)
      - Buy LG phone after they become sub $500
      - Find a good deal for phone that is lock-in contract

      • I know iPhone holds value better, but for it to be the same, I would buy the iPhone xs for $1600, and then two years later sell it for $1300. Which doesn't happen. You pay much more upfront for iPhones, it's silly to think it overall costs less. I paid $650 for the pixel 2xl, honestly how could I be better off with iPhone?

        • You're expecting too much when selling your phone, phone depreciate in value faster than you think. When I buy iPhone say for $1600 i'd expect to sell it for $800 after 2 years, or if its Samsung I'd expect to sell it one third of what I paid for after 2 years. But you feel disappointed cause you couldn't sell your $650 phone for $500, imagine if you're the buyer, would you be interested in buying 1 year old used phone for $500 when you could buy it brand new for $650? I wouldn't judge you, because I don't know how long have you own your phone, if you just own it for a month then its a different story.

          • @yummypinacolada: So you would rather lose $800 on an iPhone over a few hundred on an android? Literally the money you lost in depreciation could have bought you a Samsung. Makes sense…..dropped the price down to $450. Would still have saved more money on this phone than iPhone fyi.

            • @onlinepred: If you're looking at the latest flagship of Android it will also cost you >$1000. I'm pretty sure you got your Pixel 2xl for $650 because you bought a couple of months after its release. In that case, you buy android phone at the right time, just like I mention earlier when buying LG phone cause Android phone drop in value like crazy in the first couple of months. I bought note 9 for $1300 a couple of months ago, I know for sure I would loss less money in 2 years if I buy $1600 iPhone.

Look comparing android and iPhone are like comparing apple and orange. They are just different. If you concern about return value and want the latest flagship, iPhone is the best bet. If you want highest return value and want android, then wait a couple months or wait till the next generation release before buying it. For iPhone there's no point on holding back to wait for price drop, cause even iPhone 8+ still cost $1000 now.

          • @yummypinacolada: I hate apple, and Im not going to get into a apple vs android debate, but when people are successfully selling a 1 yr old high end apple phone for $800-$1000, I just think thats insane to be honest

same goes for android, but i dont anyone personally who has succesfully sold a 1 yr old anrdoid for $1000+

            • @Samsungnote10: Keep in mind the iPhones cost almost double the $1000 that they are selling it for. The loss they make, you could buy an android phone with.

              • @onlinepred: the s10+ prism white 1TB is currently $2399 at the samsung store, I just cant imagine anyone paying $1200+ for this in a years time second hand

an iphone maybe, but a samsung I doubt it

                but maybe im wrong!

                • +1

@Samsungnote10: Your said it yourself, buy Samsungs when on sale. If you care about resale, you buy cheaper good phones on discount. Didn't work for iPhone

      • It's only a matter of time before the apple brand no longer holds as much value. Coming few years if Apple still no new innovation they are screwed

  • Damn thats a great price.

  • Great price, and an amazing phone. I've had mine for a year now, and haven't had any complaints.

  • +3

Great camera on this phone… however, the USB C charging port is proving to be a nightmare due to the loose connection. The screen is really flimsy. I've always had a tempered glass on it but somehow this screen managed to crack just having it in the pocket. The leather premium case ($59) that came free with my phone is terrible. Terrible quality for a Google Premium product.

I have contacted their customer service regarding the USB C port and their stance is to get the screen replaced first and then they'll touch the charging port. WTF ??

Crap customer service. Could be just me, but I've had a bad experience and there's a good chance I won't buy a Google Phone again.

    • Shame it doesn't have Qi charging. It's good to have the option if the plug is flakey.

    • +1

Try cleaning the USB C port of you haven't already. Made a big difference on my pixel 2: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/co…

      • Mine too! I used a wooden toothpick and the USB is perfect again!

        So much lint build up!

Wait for tomorrow when Pixel 3a/3a XL is announced, hopefully 2 and 2XL get further discounted

Great phones, very well worth it at this price.
    This is an unbiased review.

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL

Worth an upgrade from my s7?

  • Guys, which would be your pick?

    This or the s8+

Priorities are bigger screen, good camera, simple easy smooth no lags,

No care for storage, music, nfc, water proof, apps, social media

    • +1

Would also like to know the answer to this

    • I would go for this if a good camera is a must. S8 is good, but I'd say the Pixel software is better.

    • As someone who has used both I can confidently say this is much suitable for your priorities. I experienced no lag and the camera is unbeatable. 6.1 inch screen was plenty big.

      • +1

        thanks for your replies everyone,

this was the nail in the coffin,

will order one of these and see how we go

I did play with the google pixel 2 possibly about a year ago, and yeah it did seem a bit weird but the overall phone seemed quite good

        time will tell!

    • Bigger screen, not so much. Pixel aren't good for bigger screen since they have big bezels all the way to Pixel 3 XL/ 3a XL.
Good camera, of course this handily beat S8+. This was the best camera phone in 2017, and still hold its own against newer phones thanks to Night Sight.
Easy smooth no lags comparing to S8+? Yes, absolutely. It's pure Android so it's lots faster to run but at the same time missing functions that skins like Samsung provide. For comparison, I have Poco F1 which is faster hardware (SD 845 and 6GB RAM) but running MIUI it's actually lagging behind my Pixel 2 in everyday usage. The Poco F1 pulls ahead in term of benchmark or gaming, but really pure Android is clean and light to run.

    • S8+ for sure, it is the best value phone cos Samsung need it to success after the note 7 explosion. The s9 is the cost cut version. And S10 finally need to increase the price.

  • +1

    Is this eligible for TRS?
    - Sorry. Just opened my eyes :)

  • I've been hanging out for a new phone in the $600-$900 range. Was previously waiting for a Samsung S10e deal for $850 or less, but this seems pretty popular. Would I be missing out on anything major by going for this instead?

  • Pixel 3a isn't water resistant; Pixel 2XL is. For around the same price I'd prefer the 2XL

  • Is this the latest pixel behind 3a?

  • Thinking of getting a phone for mum on monther's day.

Is 2xl or 3a xl better?

Was playing with the 3a xl at JB tonight, felt almost identical as my 2xl!

    • Im wondering the same thing. Was edging towards the 3A because my mum has normal earphones and i dont think she would actually charge a wireless earphones

    • +1

      Pros 3A xl:
      - Headphone jack
      - a little bit better camera(same as pixel 3)
      - Better battery life(not yet tested but with mid range chip and little bit bigger battery 3AXL should last longer)
      Pros 2xl:
      - Faster processor (sd835 vs sd670)
      - water resistant
      - $150 cheaper
