Castrol GTX 20W50 5 Litre Engine Oil - $12.99 at Autobarn

80

Autobarn have 5 litres of Castrol GTX 20W50 Engine Oil for $12.99 again.

Please note this is suitable for engines PRE 1990. I believe Autobarn still give you 10% off oil filters when you purchase oil (correct me if I'm wrong), so IMO this is a pretty good bargain for all the old Falcon/Commodore owners out there :)

Blurb taken from Castrol website:

Pre 1990? I've been using this stuff in my 2000 falcon with no problems, and i know plenty of others do the same.

Yeah as long as it's the right oil grade, it's good to go!

  • there are actually 2 GTX 20W-50 - one for newer cars and one for pre 1990.
the other one could be on sale too

  • Been using this with my 1997 cars, with no problem.
It was only $10 on sale, when aussie is 70c.

  • This GTX actually has an API SL specification which is a significant jump above the API SG quoted (the other GTX 20W-50 in the grey pack is API SN).

  • This stuff should be okay with wet clutches. I have used this or a similar product before in a motorcycle.
Motorcycle specific oil is generally a rip off. There has been no conclusive proof it is any better than standard car oil. It simply has the guarantee it won't damage your engine and the higher price. Do your research when buying standard car oil and you will be fine.
Never buy anything labeled "Energy conserving" if you are using it in something with a wet clutch. It will cause it to slip.

    • You use this stuff in your bike?

Damn, I tried a few different oils in my bike and they all seemed to make the clutch slip, all expect Motul..

Probably worth a quick test at this price though.. :)

  • They say oils ain't oils, but I beg to diff although but I'm not game enough to try this stuff in my car.. as it's a 2001 model.

Chuck the latest catalog in the OP!

  • standard of oil is SL! which is lower grade of oil hence the price. If you actually care about you car Ud be beter off using SM or SN grade oil for a few bucks more. Id be trusting PENRITE made oil for older cars
