I preordered yoshi from hn… i had to call them 3 weeks after the release to get them to process the order… so… never pre ordering from hn again.. ill go amazon.

    • +7

Definitely, as much as I'm for supporting Australian businesses, I've been burnt by HN too many times and Amazon has always been quick and efficient with no payment taken until the item has shipped.

    • I too went with HN for a Yoshi Crafted World pre-order. Called day 1 and was disappointed to hear they weren't stocked. But they gave me notification of stock next business day (Monday after the Friday release). It's made me go Amazon this time around for Mario Maker… day 1 release or not, I'll take the free delivery.

I got mine pretty quick. Not day one but i find it weird that people care about that

  • -1

Still waiting on a HN order over two months now, Amazon all the way

    • you have to call the store…

      • Yeah did that thanks

  • So if you preorder from amazon do they ship it in order to have it arrive on the release date or do they just ship it ON the release date so you get it a few days later?

    • +5

I know with prime it arrives on release day

    • -3

It never arrives on release day with Amazon

      • +1

This isn't true, I got yoshi on release day.

      • +1

Not the case, I always get mine on release day. Melbourne SE suburbs here. Also you need Amazon Prime for release date delivery, they ship the item the day before.

      • I've pre-ordered about 15 games through Amazon and every single one has arrived on release day, unless the release day was a weekend, where it arrived on the next business day.

        • Amazon use Australia post to deliver my pre order game. AND IT WAS DELAYED.

      • +2

Kind of agree with you cyrax83. It can be a hit and miss. For example, I did not get Smash for switch until a week after release despite pre-ordering it for months in advance. Was quite annoyed about that. Had Prime and everything, and in the ACT

      • Smash bros and MK 12 arrived a day before release day for me with Amazon Prime.

        • +1

Mortal Kombat 12? That is a very early delivery

          • +1

@Faro: Or Mario Kart 12…a very very early delivery!

      • Mine have. For the recent Trials game my copy arrived 6 days ahead of the street release date too for whatever reason.

    • I preordered Smash Bros at Amazon and I got it a few days later.

    • I preordered RDR 2 and got it release day. I preordered Sekiro and got it the day after release day (which was unfortunately a Monday due to a Friday release).

      So ymmv.

i also pre-ordered yoshi from HN, and was then given the run around in terms of not having the game in stock on release (with no estimate when it would come) and then also not processing a refund. Eventually had to do a paypal claim against them. NEVER AGAIN.

  • Also wondering if this comes with the stylus that is meant to be a pre-order bonux at "limited retailers"

Looks neat, but I'm curious if there is any benefit to using it when you're playing on the TV lol

      • You do realise what this game does, right?

        • Of course, but you can't use a stylus while docked..

          • -1

@niro: So then the answer to your question is "no"

    • EB have it as a pre-order bonus along with a drawing pad.

Hmmm. Fairly lame and disappointing considering SMM1's Ammibo and Art Book pack. Also this is a hugely anticipated release with a great community. Hope Nintendo announces a better bonus release for the fans.

        • Plus EB had an exclusive pre-order bonus magnet set for SMM1.
Nintendo haven't packaged this with extras like they did the first game.

Nintendo UK are including a nice diorama. Would love to see EB get it. The year of Nintendo Online is one of the worst collectors editions I've ever seen. I imagine half the buyers have that already and of those that don't, many would want a family plan anyway.

In the past 12 months I have preordered ~10 games (PS4 and Switch) and every single one arrived on release day. This is when I was living rurally and when I was living metro.
Not trying to discredit you, but I feel launch date delivery is the norm.

EDIT: Oops, was meant to be a reply.

    • It’s dependant on your proximity to Amazon’s warehouse. We’re in Perth and it always arrives day after (for the price - I don’t mind). Although, when I send to my brother in Newcastle, always on day of delivery.

  • Is that possible price matching with EB games??

    • As a rule, they don't price match Amazon, unfortunately.

    • They might price match with HN if the same price exists on release, but they won't do it for a pre-order.

    • They said they're unable to match online retailers. They only match physical stores, but every time I've tried the store had to be in the same shopping centre. Don't know why that would make a difference though.

      • Probably because they have different core customers. Physical stores are probably relying on passerby customers.

  • Have a $25 credit on my account so $33 for this is great!

  • +1

I had priority delivery for Days gone and it wasn't even shipped till release day and it didn't arrive for 5 days later so it's hit or miss with amazon whether you get it on release day

  • I don't have a wiiu so I've just been watching SMM youtubers. Keen to grab this!

  • Never played Mario Maker - is it going to be a hassle to find good levels to play? Do you have to wade through piles of crap levels, or are the good ones easy to find?

    • +1

They're easy to find. On the Wii U there were rankings and a voting system to highlight great courses and Nintendo teams published plenty themselves too.

      • Are they free, or do you need to have a paid Nintendo Online account?

        • You need the account for the Switch version I believe

        • I believe you need an online account for the Switch version, which is free if you have Amazon Prime.

  • I guess this is the game that finally makes my Wii U redundant.

    • +1

Still waiting for Virtual Console to come to Switch. Can't beat the Wii U for backwards compatibility.

      • +1

        retroarch?

      • I agree. That and Netflix for the kids are all that are keeping our Wii U plugged in. I built up a massive VC library on Wii U. Wish it was transferrable to switch.

  • I don't like either of them. But to be fair, the only corporation I don't have beef with is JB, so yeah.

  • sigh guess I'll be paying the $30 digital tax again ..

    • Yeah, it gives me hesitation. But I pre-ordered today anyway.

I'm using Amazon Prime to get 12 months of NSO.

You've probably already heard of it:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/447370

You get 3 months NSO at the start of a Amazon Prime subscription, then you claim the rest of the 12 months NSO once you've had Prime for 60 days (so maybe you pay for at least one month of Amazon Prime after the free trial). As it happens, Amazon gave me an extra month of the free trial, and I might be able to squeeze in before it expires to claim the rest of the 12 months NSO (I will have had Amazon Prime for 31 + 30 days). But if not I'll hold on to Prime for another month ($7) just to claim for NSO.

  • Amazon still depends on whoever is supplying games.

I have preordered a Nintendo Switch game from Amazon AU before. Few weeks after the release I had to cancel my order because I was told ETA is a month or two away.
Bought it from EB Games without preorder DLC bonus. :(

I am giving Amazon another chance now. :)

  • +1

I want this and don't even have a switch

    • I have a switch and don't want this.

Honestly though I just don't get it. Making levels isn't for me. Trawling through a quagmire of average levels for a few good ones sounds like a chore compared to the time spent playing them. Although I've been around since the SNES and C64, 2d platformers largely aren't doing it for me these days either

  • Does cashback work on this?

    • Should do, release is within 60 days
