Wrong and misleading
FYI, you need to ring them up and request for the expiry date to changed to 6 months after the date of activation. I just did it! And it worked!
Good for 1.1GB plus a few hours of calls ($220 funny money cap+, plus $20 browse pack.)
Beware - I forgot to buy the browse pack, data went past 400MB and lost all credit, voice and data.I may or may not be bumping for the name alone. (Boyssss from the Dwarffffff…)
so can buy it at any Coles?
Yes. Any coles
But not
Coles Express then?
edit: you may find a lot of supermarkets will not have this in stock. They do not carry many.
Anyone know what the expiry validity is likely to be on the SIM?
If you have a 850Mhz capable phone, it might be useful to have on hand for phone service if you are planning to go to the middle of nowhere (say on holiday).
That only works if you can leave it a while before activating it.
July 2013 or later..
so can this starter kit use got wireless broadband?anybody work out what the best plan to go with this starter pack?
As I implied, better to use it as a cap+ voice service with data pack, even if you do not want to make calls.
Unless you want to top-up, or transfer credit to get 3GB/$50 pack.
So can this be used with http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/45265 to put a 12GB sim into an ipad ?
No.
- $30 Recharge to use on whatever you want
Does this mean I can get a $50 recharge cap for $20 (30-50) ?
- 400MB of bonus data to use in Australia when you select a pre-paid cap+offer
Will said recharge give me the extra 400MB of data ?
Reference prepaid offers:
http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/prepaid-offers/Does this mean I can get a $50 recharge cap for $20 (30-50) ?
No. You get a $30 "recharge" on activation. There is no way to increase that.
You can't spend your call-credit on a new recharge, or you'd have an infinite recursion :-)
Best to get one and take it O/S on roaming. That way you won't come back with a nasty surprise on your phone bill! Note that the credit won't last very long so best for smsing.
Very few roaming countries, with Telstra Prepaid.
can you buy this prepaid starter pack and use it like 3 months later? (I'm still on contract for another 3 months) cause the offer is pretty good…
So I assume when you activate the sim card you choose from http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/prepaid-offers/??
thanks
Yes.
If you have a Telstra Prepaid Number already, can you use a starter pack to recharge your account?
you can transfer credit.
hey guys, i picked one up on sunday night after seeing this posted. i am using it for mobile broadband. they said the $30 equates to 700mb that expires after 30 days. i plan on using the ezyrecharge offer (found it here at ozbargains also) once the initial bonus expires. think its $130 ($150 less $20 cashback) for 10gig to use over 365 days.
thought id post, hopefully can help a few ppl out there. should/will be much better than my current "3" mobile broadband.Hey, I tried 4 Coles (3 Sydney City and 1 suburban) in the last few days and no luck so far… but that doesn't matter - what I wanted to ask was that one lady behind the Coles counter (when she thought that she had one in stock) said - "you'll need to provide ID" - is this right? Does any one know if you need to prove who you are to buy these? Thanks.
Yes you do since it contains a sim card. Anything that contains a sim card that u purchase requires your ID.
Only if they ask. I have bought SIMs more than once, cash and no ID.
If you are a criminal, it is very easy to have an anonymous phone and SIM, this way or countless others.
Big Brother can take a hike.True, I bought a 18 dollar Samsung e2210l at HN with a sim and they didn't ask for it. =)
yes i bought one today and had to show ID. but ID details were not captured by coles lady on the form.
Correct.
ID required to be filled out by counter staff and sent to Canberra.
Commonwealth Telecommunication Act 2000 (Prepaid Carrier Services)
hit a snag. found out the modem i unlocked (e122) can not be used with telstra :(
anyone know of a cheap modem i can pick up for this?
Vodafone $29 Prepaid Wireless, from KMART.
No 3telstra 2100MHz where you live?
If you can't find a cheap next-G modem, you can use (most?) nextG phones as a USB modem. The 6120 is good.
Has anyone managed to buy one of these?
No but Coles gave me a RAINCHECK…he he
the lady serving had to check with manager first tho !(just get some stock then u won't need to check with anyone and you will be loved by all ;)
Note: the $30 credit expires in 30 days - even if you picked the long life option.
