Features
More performance for your enterprise applications: SSD upgrade made easy

Regardless of whether you are running mobile devices, a PC, workstation or server, solid state drives improve operating speeds dramatically for data-intensive business applications and thereby significantly raise productivity. And there's another advantage: Memory devices built around flash technology have no moving components. That means that SSDs operate silently and are significantly more robust and energy-efficient than conventional hard drives. SSD also produce hardly any waste heat, which is an important contribution to energy efficiency in data centres, particularly where server operation is concerned.

That seems expensive for a 2.5" SATA SSD

    • +1

True, but they are claiming a MTBF of 2,000,000 hours. That's 228 years and four months, minus ~ 57 days for leap years.
      It's only a three year warranty tho…

      • +4

MTBF of 860 evo is 1.5 millions, not far behind this thing.

I wouldn't want to have to do the testing, I'd fail first…

the 860 PRO's this yields a drive writes per day rating of 0.64,
      The enterprise SM863a's 5.5 DWPD,

Technically the enterprise Will last significantly longer than qvo evo or pro for writing data to disk constantly.

I have them in servers and the price is pretty good.
I am confused why catch a consumer site have them.
I'm unlikely to recommend one for home

So we're only allowed to post cheap crap?

      • +1

I don’t think that’s his point. These drives are built and marketed for specific use cases. Definitely not needed for usual home PC’s. That’s not to say the deal can’t be posted if this is a bargain for the type of drive, it can’t be compared to normal consumer drive prices.

I also agree that it’s a bit odd that catch are selling these.

        • It's not Catch itself which holds this stock nor are they actually the seller. It's a business and marketplace called F Digital holding and selling the stock and shipping it from overseas as it's an international model.

Cant fit much on 240gb these days!

Try decreasing the font size in your Word documents so you can squeeze more on.

It is highly recommended for laptops to keep them lighter…

Our enterprise SSDF drives, if we wear them out during warranty period they replace them, that is the difference between enterprise and home use drives. You don't expect SSD to die due to electronic issues within warranty, e.g you probabaly have a TV somewhere that still works and is 8 years old. In commercial applications SSD can get hammered and wear out depending on application, so different warranty focus and price point for home use drive vs enterprise.

    • +1

As this enterprise drive is about three times the price of a mid-range consumer drive, I wonder if it would be better off just getting three consumer drives for the same price?

      • +3

It depends. If it is for a business critical system with lots of disk writes the extra money is easily justified.

      • for home or SOHO use just a normal SSD as you are unlikely to wear it out. I tend to upgrade my home drive about every 18 mths as capacity and speed gets better, and the old one gets kept for backup.
Currently have evo860 1TB as main drive, and backup is Crucial MX300 750GB.

    • yeah but imagine some server admin going up to his manager like "hey… I've got a great deal on SSDs on… catch of the day".

  • So, it is slower than the normal drives, but is more expensive? What?

    • +2

Because the NAND is higher quality and built to last a long time compared to a consumer SSD. That's why it's more expensive. You get what you pay for.

    • Look at the data sheet, 240GB write endurance is 1,540 TB

Comparison 860EVO is 150TB write endurance.

Factor of 1000% right there, although for the home user kinda overkill.

      • +2

Hmm, only 3 years warranty, I wonder why?
