Samsung Galaxy S10 $1099 (OW Pricematch $1044) @ Amazon AU

This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

$1044 is approximately $300 off RRP from when the phone was launched (albeit without the buds). The phone is currently for sale at Officeoworks for $1138

Alternatively you can buy outright from Amazon with 6% off from Shopback cashback (Comes to $1033), in my opinion I would pay the extra $11 to buy in a physical store (officeworks) in the case of returns and to not have to wait by the mail.

While this isn't better than the 'Samsung Enhanced Partnership Deal' which is still running, it's a fair alternative to those like me who don't have a corporate account they can use.

Now to decide whether to bite the bullet or wait and see if the price drops continue

****EDIT: Credit to SpackBace: Buy for $1024 at OW eBay after 10% Shopback cashback (Ends tonight)

Heard OW doesn't price match Amazon

    • +2

Not all of them. Comes down to store manager' decision from my experience.

      • +1

        That's crazy.
Their terms should be clear on who they do and don't match with.
Officeworks annoy the crap out of me, far as i'm concerned if they make an offer to price match/beat then they should do it politely.
The handful of times I've attempted a match they have been rude and difficult.
Makes me only go there if i have to.

        • I generally call my local stores within 10-15 mins. drive to check the stock and also ask about price beat if available. I can understand the frustration if you go there only to be declined.

    • +1

Bought one yesterday at OW price beat, manager was fine with it.

      • Which store…?

    • Just bought the note 9 today, price matched with Amazon. Approved by in the Carlton and Auburn branches.

  • Cash reward seems to be 10% at the moment or am I missing something
    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/amazon-australia

    • Not for electronics, unfortunately :(

    • didn't realise CR changed their policy, looks like mobile & accessories is 5%

  • +6

$1138 @ OW eBay, and get 10% cashback at shopback

    =$1024.20

    Got 2hrs to go…

    • +8

Even cheaper at Bing Lee eBay with with 7% off code PRESS = $1068.57 and 10% cashback at shopback

      =$961.62

      • any deals for s10e?

        • +1

Bing Lee. $929.07 with Code PRESS plus 10% cashback at shopback = $ $836.17

Only 10 mins to go for shopback deal to expire.

          • @Jase2801: ahhh thanks, was hoping it would be cheaper than Amazon deal

and it seems the s10e is out of stock for all Sydney stores :(

  • +1

With the soon-to-end Shopback 10% cashback deal + 2 sellers with the 7% eBay discount + $900 worth of eBay gift cards that I bought with 15% discount, I can buy the S10 Plus for less than this from two Aussie eBay sellers with very high feedbacks (and they say the phones are AU stock), but I feel uncomfortable to buy an item that's $1000+ from a seller who isn't a major company. Decisions decisions! 😯

  • +1

    I have this phone.
    It is awesome.

    • What color? I've read the the Prism Green is ugly

      • Really? I bought the prism green from the EEP deal and it's as beautiful and unique coloured as i hoped. It's like an Aqua (blue/green) colour. To each their own though

        • Yeh well considering that there's a few ozbargainers selling the green color S10e on classified and its also cheaper on ebay compared to other colors, I just thought that the green was the least popular color. I've been watching some youtube videos and to me the green does seem nice. It won't matter much anyway since I'll be putting a black case over it :p

          • @Homr: That's the thing we buy these beautiful devices and then cover them up with a case lel.

            • @Diji1: I really like the prism blue color but can't seem to find it anywhere

      • Black.
        With a black spigen case.

        • which spigen case? Neo Hybrid?

    • Same, I had the ZTE Axon 7 with LinageOS and I used to think that it was super fast and had a good camera.. Lol

Do Samsungs still slow down tremendously after 6 months due to the bloatware that runs in the background?

    • -1

Probably. The phone hasn't been out for 6 months so your question is somewhat invalid.
My S8 has indeed done the slowdown thing after a while but I re-flash the firmware to freshen it up.

    • +4

I've had my Note8 for about 18 months and it's still as buttery smooth as day 1.

      • +3

Same here, Note 8 seems to be keeping up just fine after about 18months usage. Aside from the battery life which is below par I cannot find a reason to upgrade.

        • +2

My 17 month old Note 8 apart from poorer battery life has not slowed down at all.Havent even done a factory reset since a long time.

    • +1

IIRC correctly the s10 series is running on a completely different version of the OS than previous Galaxy devices, which is a lot closer to stock android with a lot less bloat. So no one really knows if it'll be the same.

    • No tremendous slowdown, a combination of faster hardware and slightly improved software/less bloatware has removed the intermittent slowdowns or made it less noticeable.

It does slowdown, but since the phone is so fast anyway it doesn't matter too much.

Sometimes a reboot will make it things much smoother/faster on my s9.

    • my S6 is slowing down hardcore to the point its almost unusable

  • -1

Whats going on why is the price for S10 dropping like a hot potato? It certainly was't the case for the S9 last year…

    • -1

This is absolutely ridiculous for lower model phone owners! I bought the s9 for $1000 last year, sold today for only $550 with the headphones still unopen, extra case bought for $50, installed tempered glass etc

It's good to buy when prices are lowering like crazy but be prepared to lose half of that when you sell in a year…

    • I think its partly just been a bit more aggressive in pricing for a change to the other premium phones. I'm also guessing lots of stock trying to get rid of for new 5G version of the S10, probably won't be able to sell them much higher then the current models, so you basically want to offload stock now (my guess anyway).

    • This time last year the s9 could be had for $699.

      • +1

S9 definitely wasn't selling for 699 in April last year.

          • +1

@cortex: Did you actually read those deals? You have to sign up for a 12-month plan to get that price.

            • -2

@eug: yes i got the phone for $699 last yr in April, and put on a plan. competitive plan at the time too. everyone loved the deal (hence the many upvotes). anyway my argument was against the "s10 is dropping like a hot potato, the s9 didnt drop last year" which with a quick search you can see is a lie. not only did the phone drop, it dropped further and quicker. s9 was $700, s10 is now $1100.

              • @cortex: You first said:

This time last year the s9 could be had for $699.

You could only get it for $699 if you also signed up for a 12-month contract. Nobody sold it for $699 outright last year in April. This S10 deal is for an outright purchase. So your comment was "a lie".

          • @cortex: "When You Port Your Number to Telstra BYO 25GB $49 12 Months Plan"

    • There's a new updated 5g version coming out in a couple of months. Expect more price drops.

    • Simple answer, 28 degrees card.

  • Hey all, I just had a quick question about this cash back rewards thing! Can someone explain what it is like, cause I have no idea.
    Much appreciated

  • Dual sim?

    • I think only the 512gb is Dual sim.

    • No

So much things to organise when getting a new phone

    1. Price
    2. Color
    3. Case
    4. Screen Protector

At the moment I've chosen Prism Green and the Neo Hybrid as Case. Now to find a good screen protector, any recommendations??

    Thanks.

    • only white stone dome has glass screen protectors that work with the fingerprint scanner iirc

      • don't think it matters for S10e since the fingerprint scanner is on the side

Edit: Just realized that this is a s10 page :p

      • Where's the best place to buy one?

    • -1

      Case
      Screen Protector

Having a phone is much easier when you ignore these.

I stopped years ago and my phones are thinner, nicer to hold and get less scratches from dirt that gets under the case.

      • it is easier but when you're paying $800+ for a phone, you should invest in other accessories to protect it.

        • you should invest in other accessories to protect it.

Why should I? Apart from because product marketing says I should.

Do you put rubber bumpers around your car or wrap it in clear plastic?

You probably don't even though your car costs much more than a phone.

If you asked any car reviewer they would tell you to save your money on these accessories. Especially as they do not add to the resale value.

Do you cover your lounge and sofa in towels to protect the fabric when you sit on it?
You probably don't because it looks bad and makes it uncomfortable to sit on.

A whitestone dome glass screen protector is $70. That's 7% of the phone price!
An OtterBox is about the same.

Why would I want to spend an extra 15% of the phones purchase price on things that make using the phone worse?
Just because there is good profit in it for somebody else doesn't mean I should buy them.

            @spaceflight:

Do you put rubber bumpers around your car or wrap it in clear plastic?

There are laws among many other things that act as deterrents for people who want to make contact with other people's cars with their own. Then insurance (CTP and comprehensive) come into play if something goes wrong.

Do you cover your lounge and sofa in towels to protect the fabric when you sit on it?

I don't know about you but my lounge isn't made of glass and I don't go running with it either.

There will always be a case (ha!) for and against protection on phones. If you're someone who works an office job (or is otherwise sedentary) and the phone has minimal chance to interact with the elements then sure, I fully understand why a case/screen protector is a waste of money and detract from the original design of the phone etc.

I for one, am quite active in my work environment where my phone will be with me and bumps and scratches are a possibility. Rather than limiting what I do or how I do things the case and screen protector give me that peace of mind so that if something is damaged, hopefully only the case or screen protector need replacing. That would be the equivalent of an insurance policy for my car.

I've used a case and screen protector on my last few phones, and I know each phone has had their fair share of accidents over time and was glad protection was there on a few of those occasions.

In the end, it's a personal thing and depends heavily on the context in which the device will be used.

So if you don't need the accessories and you save that extra money, then that's good for you!

That's not why you are buying rubber bumpers though.

You are buying them in case you drive into something (or in the case of a phone drop it. It's your fault, not someone else's)

I for one, am quite active in my work environment where my phone will be with me and bumps and scratches are a possibility.

That's where you take out phone insurance.
              https://www.biggiraffe.com.au/

For less than the price of a whitestone dome and OtterBox you can insure your phone for a year which also covers theft (something a screen protector and case don't protect against).

Also if you pay for the phone on an Amex card that offers it you get free screen insurance.

          • +3

@spaceflight: the case I got is $20 and screen protector is $9

I got insurance for my car

My lounge is at home and STAYS at home

          • @spaceflight:

            Why should I?

You shouldn't. But different people use their phones differently to you, and it makes sense for some of them to protect their phones.

People who work in environments where they are more likely to scratch or drop their phones would greatly benefit from a case and screen protector. Those who literally just go to work and sit at a desk all day, then drive home and use their phone on the sofa might not benefit from a case and screen protector.

Especially as they do not add to the resale value.

Some people would like to sell their phone after a year or two. Phones that are in better condition will definitely increase their resale value.

A whitestone dome glass screen protector is $70. That's 7% of the phone price! An OtterBox is about the same.

There is no need to choose the most expensive examples. Something like a Spigen Hybrid will protect against dents on corners and cracked backs, with some protection to the screen with the raised lip. The S10 series also already come with pre-installed screen protectors.

If you have a bit more to spend, Samsung's leather case is nice.

Do you put rubber bumpers around your car or wrap it in clear plastic?

Since we're on car analogies, would you get annoyed if you scraped your car on a pole in a car park while parking? You'd have to spend money to get it fixed, or sell for less money when you decide to sell the car.

I would get annoyed if I dropped my phone and cracked the back and dented the corners, because I would have to spend money to get it fixed, or sell it for less when I decide to sell it. A $17 case would have prevented that.

If you asked any car reviewer they would tell you to save your money on these accessories.

Plenty of phone reviewers suggest using phone cases if you want to protect your device.

Why would I want to spend an extra 15% of the phones purchase price

            A $17 case is 1.5% of a $1,099 S10. You can even get $8 cases.

on things that make using the phone worse?

I do like the feel of a naked phone, but after discovering some cases that actually feel nice in the hand (the Samsung leather cover and the Spigen Hybrid are my favorites), I really don't mind using them. They actually make the phone less slippery and easier to hold with the thicker profile - which makes the phone better to grip. The phone also won't vibrate itself off surfaces and onto the floor - bare glass is slippery.

    • Little known fact: Galaxy S10 series comes with screen protector already applied from the factory.
Only the case to worry about now!

      • yeh but its not tempered glass

  • That's where you take out phone insurance.
    https://www.biggiraffe.com.au/

For less than the price of a whitestone dome and OtterBox you can insure your phone for a year which also covers theft (something a screen protector and case don't protect against).

Insurance for an S10 through that company is $120. personally I would rather get a $15 case from eBay

  • $12 for my rugged armour Spigen case.
I felt naked before it arrived….

Phone comes with a screen protector on it already, although I don't think it needs it.

  • Does anyone know if thee are similar deals running on the s10e now too? I'd like to pick one up but missed the earlier Amazon deal.

    • +1

Not at the moment, best to wait a week or two. I think the price will drop even more going by their recent track record.

I'm glad I bought mine before it expired :D
