Only if you like trash and enjoy contributing to landfill.

No thats buying Christmas and Halloween stuff each year and ditching it after one use
Surely you would get 3-4 years of solid use out of this?

        • Where’s the link to the deal.

Soniq is a very popular brand 'cos it's cheap but has a poor reputation for quality. I wonder how much $$ the manufacturers would have to spend per tv to give their TVs the same quality of Hisense, Samsung or LG etc?

    • +1

This is a silly question You get what you paid for

      • -1

        It was rhetorical. ;-)

        • Technically, not even a question. Just a statement with a question mark at the end ;-)

        • to answer a rhetorical question - to give their tv's the same quality as Hisense, Samsung or LG it would likely cost the manufacturers about a quarter to a third of what those TV's retail for. :)

Bought a 40in Soniq for my room last Feb. Picture quality was surprisingly good when I used it with my PS4

I bought one from the last deal but still not had chance to unbox it!!… I have a TVL (rebranded same model soniq) I bought a couple of months ago and for my purposes it's fantastic….built in tuner and chromecast aren't great but if just using it as a monitor for external sources it's fine - pair with an android TV box - bought foxtel / me cool ml pro l boxes myself but waiting on a vodafone tv box because it should cover all bases (free to air tuner, official android tv so chromecast ok, not crippled so works fine with plex, kodi, etc. from other posts on here. The only thing uncertain is how long it will last but been using every day for past 2 months without issues so far..

          I'll Runaway now :)

  • Cab you Miracast your screen? Or is it just sending Netflix and YouTube to to TV.

    • +7

      Uber only

    • No mention of built in miracast in manual. So likely no.

  • Get a TCL atleast. A big step up and Android.

    • Which one?

  • Taken from amazon review section, not sure if accurate but it's a deal breaker for me.

"The TV doesn’t have up-scaling function. All video signal not in 4K resolution (e.g. SD channels and DVD movies) will not be up-scaled to achieve 4K resolution on the screen."

    • +3

So you think there will be a 1080p image taking up 1/4 of the screen with the rest of the screen just black? I doubt that's the case

    • +1

It's true, it doesn't upscale to 4K. The TV just drops it's resolution to match the video source. FTA looks terrible even the HD channels. You really need an external tuner that can upscale to 4K such as the foxtel now box, vodafone tv, etc.

Damn, I misread Soniq as Sony and got excited!

  • Soniq TVs truly are shocking. I guess it's hard to argue with the price if you need a spare for a bedroom, rental, or something like that but I would not for one second consider this as a main TV unless you just don't have the budget (which is fine, but just don't expect much). Input lag tends to be shockingly high on these TVs.

    • Can you explain input lag?

I can imagine that being a problem if using with a PC or console, but not for TV or DVD watching (?)

I was going to ask if a TV like this would be good for PC use, on a desktop - i.e. used as a dedicated monitor. Not necessarily for this specific model, but I'm wondering if I should start considering getting a large size 4k TV to use as a desktop monitor. I looked into this several years ago and was told you need high resolution, but now with 4K we have the high resolution required, and now it seems that the price is getting very reasonable.

      • Input lag really would matter if you playing high fps games. The only real question how far you will be sitting away from the screen while using it. I had a 42 inch and was sitting 1.5 metres away and had to swap it for a 32 for the eyes to get the whole screen in view.

        • Well I have a Soniq and measured the input lag across every setting, HDMI input and anything else I could think of and couldn't achieve below 125ms (yep seriously). So even for a monitor it's shocking.

        • I'm sitting 1.5 metres from a 55" 4k tv - i would consider it just about perfect distance, not sure how 42" was overwhelming your fov

      • It's fine if you don't care about colour accuracy or input latency for gaming. If you just browse the web and type word documents a tv works fine. Imagine sitting at a 55inch tv on a desk though, your neck would hurt!

        • For me personally dynamic range is where cheaper TV's fall flat on their face . Grey blacks and washed out colours .

  • Using Soniq for last 3 years and no complaints

$599 instead of $1000+ I am happy as I am not worried too
Much about 1 or 2% imperfections

  • How would this be for watching something like the AFL?

    • +40

I tried a few different TVs, but it was always still boring.

    • +1

Depends on which team you support. It's probably overkill for Collingwood matches.

  • would this be good for my mum that has a shitty 30? inch tv?

if she watches 720 or 1080p tv shows, would they just run at those res, and lack of upscaling shouldnt matter if she's used to those resolutions?

    • +9

Yes and your mum says Hi.

  • Bought from last deal and spent today setting it(and space in the room) up but the screen was broken upon arrival :(

The amazon return process seems good so far but sad days that it wont be working in time for Game of Thrones

  • +1

    It's $529 now.

  • +1

    I think sold out now

Jb have dumped the brand, so I guess you will see them pop up everywhere now only cheaper

  • Dont buy Soniq, I worked at JB a few years back, and every weekend we would have like 10 Soniqs exchanged or refunded. Boss would always tell us to chuck it away because it costs more to fix.

    • Wouldn't you be sending it back for refund/replacement/repair from Soniq…rather than "chuck it out"?

    • I once bought some things direct from them. They might have been refurbished but I'm not sure. Every item had an issue. Dealing with them was also an issue. Never again.

  • Has anyone who purchased this time around had their order dispatched or arrive?

    Amazon orders is still showing:
"Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."

Anyone with a similar experience have any idea what's going on?
