Pixel 3a announcement should not be far off. Will be interesting to see pricing compared to these discounts.

    • Completely different phone, so it's unlikely the Pixel 3/XL will receive a further discount.

      • Not completely
It's expected to have the same camera.
For many, that's what matters most

  • +7

I read up to; Google Pixel 3 $300.

    • +12

Technically that means you are entitled to buy it for $300. I wish I stopped reading at that point too

  • -3

I can't believe people would buy this over something like the oneplus 6t for like half the price.

    • +26

Half the price? 6T is around $750 Aus. So for $150 extra you get:
      F2FS fast file system
A second front wide angle camera
Stock Android (some would argue this alone is worth a good bump in price)
Night sight without installing a buggy gcam
Monthly security + feature + bug fix updates
      Ability to buy locally
A service which often sends you a replacement phone before you're expected to ship your faulty device off. As quick as a 48 hour turn around from complaint to new device in hand.
      An ip68 waterproof rating
      A higher ppi screen density
      Stereo speakers
      Free google photos storage…

      • Can't help but disagree, the OnePlus 6T is more similar to the Pixel 3 XL than the regular variant see here. The weight, screen size, battery capacity etc. , the major difference between the XL and 6T is the resolution. The 6T can film 4k 60fps whereas the pixel can only manage 30fps. Just an example to show the Pixel is not vastly superior as your comment indicates.

$750 will get you a 128gb OnePlus 6T, The 3XL is $1200. Still not half the price but I'd go for the OnePlus 6 over the 6T anyway if you're desperate for a phone (OnePlus 7 will be arriving soon), can be found for <$600.

        • +10

          Can't help but disagree

There's nothing to disagree with, my post indicates facts not opinion (I hardly even mentioned the camera features, the Titan M security chip, the haptics, the AOD display and Wireless Charging… the list goes on).
People are free to make up their own mind as to what's more valuable to them.

        • +4

          OnePlus customer service is awful

        • Oneplus 6t wins. It's faster than Google Pixel XL 3 and multi task better with more ram

Also it's faster than even Note 9

          Its OS is top notch.

I have not had such good Android experience since when S3 first came out.

6 months use still fast no lag

I wouldn't go 6 just because of bigger battery and teardtop design

          • +1

            @neonlight:

            Its OS is top notch.

It's 'OS' is based off the stock Android experience in which the Pixel has, so forward your thanks to Google, unless of course you're referring to it's launcher.

            • -1

@magic8ballgag: Google needs together people's data somehow. If you are using stock android you can thank all the other oems for all the great features Google eventually copies

            • @magic8ballgag: Oxygen OS, yes its better than stock Android. I mean all manufacturers do just re-skin if that's what you want to point out.

Anyhow you might as well thank Oracle and Java perhaps as the original Android development used libraries from it

              • @neonlight:

Oxygen OS, yes its better than stock Android.

                In what ways exactly?

Anyhow you might as well thank Oracle and Java perhaps as the original Android development used libraries from it

They don't maintain and update it however, therefore whatever pretty skin Oneplus decide to use on their phones wouldn't continue to exist without it.

          • @neonlight: Where to buy from? I m in adelaide should include manufacturer warranty

            • @Zpy978: unfortunately the only downside is no warranty. But I'm happy to risk that off eBay

              • @neonlight: Thanks for the reply. few questions

I see on Ebay with OnePlus 6T Dual SIM 8GB / 128GB 4G BLACK WARRANTY Unlocked Phone, just thinking warranty means manufacturer will honor the warranty?

Would I also get an invoice on my name? any recommended reliable sellers on ebay for one plus 6t?
how many days for the phone to arrive? since its an expensive items I suppose the delivery will require signing?

                • @Zpy978: The warranty depends on how good the seller is. Everything else you mention depends on seller. No chance to get invoice because it's overseas sellers

      • how would you rate it against the Xiaomi Mi A2?

      • 48hr turn around? I want to point out for myself and my friends it's been more like weeks

    • Is one plus six available to buy in oz? If yes where thanks…

  • -5

Pixel is full of problems, do not get it. You will regret it

    • I don't have a pixel 3 but haven't heard much problems.. To make ur statement valid you need to list them out lol..

    • I have seen the reports of the phone not detecting the sim or not connecting to the network.
A friend has a Pixel 3 64gb that's ELF (returned second or third day) now and has been two weeks so far waiting on a replacement.
Reddit has a bunch of people with the same issue.

  • +7

At the end of the day, this is still a flagship phone with a top of the line CPU, OS and arguably the best smartphone camera (still).

In consideration of these facts, $900 is a great price.

    • Cheaper if you can get your hands on gift cards e.g. RACQ

    • -7

It's a joke of a phone and the only people saying it's good are the ones who got tricked into buying one and couldn't find a way to get a refund.

    • +1

Although true, most progress these days are better and cheaper. For example, you would be pretty silly to get a pixel 3 over s10e for example

    • +2

I would still probably prefer the s10e (can get for ~$900 with discounts) or the p30, both which have some better specs over the pixel 3 and cameras that are just as good, if not better.

But I agree, it would be a great phone. Just not as good looking as the new Samsung or Huawei phones.

      • Any discounts/deals on samsung 10 plus ?

        • There's the education discount if you have an .edu account, but other than that I'm not sure.

  • +5

Why is it $300 more for an additional 64Gb ram when a 64Gb SD card is $20?

    • +1

It’s ‘only’ $150 extra but still a good question

    • Self-selecting pricing discrimination :-)

    • Yeah, I was comparing to the 128Gb XL phone.

  • I'd been waiting for a deal like this to come back, but gave up and bought a barely used one off Ebay. If you like android, it's an awesome phone. I have zero regrets. Photo quality is great, which is largely why I wanted this phone.

    • Yea photos is the one thing I miss leaving pixel, although you gain so much more with other phones. I'm using wide angle so much now as a camera experience, and macro which pixels still don't have

  • +2

Make pixel look more premium built, then I'll bite

    • What do you want in a design?

  • -3

Pixel 3 is a (profanity) joke at this price point.

  • +1

how much Market share does the 'Pixel' actually have because i honestly no one who has one and they are super expensive….

  • +1

My pixel 3 has been having issues with phone calls. People can't hear me all the time and apparently a lot of people are having the same problem. Apart from this and the average battery life, this is a great phone. Awesome camera.

    • Lol, love the phone but can't make phone calls. I guess everyone WhatsApps and Facebooks instead of making calls these days. Calls are much easier.

    • Yes, the phone has issues, I returned the phone and got the money back.

  • +6

I got mybPixel 3 "free" with an Optus plan. Never again, either Optus or a Google phone. No one could hear me when I made calls from day one. Because I bought online I had to arrange for a satchel to post it back. When they finally got they said there wasn't a problem … So I tried again and they rejected it again. Went to Optus store (who previously refused to deal with me) and proved to them it didn't work so they returned it. After a few days I get a refurbished unit? And am told my phone is over a month old so their policy is to only give refurbished phones. WTF?
The phone at least enabled me to make calls …. but every day after about 90 mins of running an app it turns itself off. I have returned it and now wait to see what Optus has / will do. Its covered by 24 month warranty and I am going to need it.
Based on my experience I will never again deal with either Optus nor google phones. Shame I have wait out this 60 a month plan for 24 months….
Oh no idea what the camera is like. Never got that far and thats why I got the phone in the first place …. 😂🤣😂🤣😢

  • +2

I've had my pixel 3 since it's release so here is a couple of quick observations:

    Good things:
-I am one of the lucky ones who haven't had any issue with microphone when making calls.
-The camera is amazing. Portrait mode shots in particular are fantastic
    -Performance is snappy.
-Vanilla Android is far superior to Samsung's iteration
-Haptic feedback feels natural. It's on par with any Apple device I've used

    Bad things:
-Battery life is horrid. I've bought USB chargers for my work, car and wife's car just to make sure I have one on hand. If I'm using the phone moderately (internet, emails) then it's rare the charge will last a full day. For reference, by 1.5 year old Samsung s8 had better battery life.
-Android auto causes the phone to overheat and reset itself
    -Battery life
    -Battery life

    • It sounds like you have a dud considering it's overheating and turning itself off.

      • +1

This is true. I would say 2 out of 5 pixels are duds. You need to keep using the rma process until you get one thatisnt broken

      • You're probably right. I haven't bothered returning it because I never use Android auto.

    • Screen on time (Screen usage since last full charge) is a much better indicator of battery performance, and even then it can vary wildly depending on what you're doing. I get around 5 hours SOT on average with my Pixel 3, so by the end of the day I'll usually have around 45% left (meaning I use it roughly 2.5 - 3 hours a day).

I'd suggest if you're not getting at least 4.5h SOT with standard internet and email usage then you definitely have an issue somewhere. I'd factory reset before going through the RMA process though, it is more than likely an app that's installed.

  • +3

Two of my work colleagues have Pixel 3s and they are absolutely hating it. With one phone, the person at the other end can't hear him speak for about 7 seconds at the start of a call. With the other one, his phone constantly lags and freezes. There's a thread on Whirlpool in Pixel3 RMA, might be worth checking out before buying.

    • You don't get pixels if you want a phone. Reviewers mostly admit they don't make calls. Pixel 1,2 and 3 have been the worst call quality phones I have owned in a very long time. Swapped to s10e today. What a huge upgrade

      • How does battery and performance compare between the two? I’m considering both and so far leaning towards the S10e.

        • -1

Battery is far better than pixel 3, not as good as p2xl. S10e is much faster and smoother than pixel 3, doesn't reload apps as much and form factor is much better.

  • +1

Almost got this last time, but went for S10 instead (Woolies deal, with earbuds).
    Very happy with it.

  • +2

I wish phone manufacturers would slow down their release cycles and focus on making higher quality phones instead. I know that "keeping up with trends" (in this case, ugly notches) is important but it's getting ridiculous now.

  • +4

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/bblit8/anyone_…

Just incase anyone was wondering, since release pixel 3's have had major performance issues.

    • You might want to cherry pick a better thread, half the people in there are commenting that their Pixel 3 still runs perfectly.

Also worth noting you could go to any phones forum and find a similar thread or worse. Samsung have some huuuuge support threads going on a couple years for a single issue. Reddit and whirlpool are basically tech support forums at this point.

      • Just trying to point out, there are many other threads and many reviewers pointing this out for P3 as a major issue. I had a P3 and returned it due to the performance issues.

  • Remember, you are more likely to hear from people with problems than those who have none.

I like my Pixel 3, upgraded from Pixel 2.

    • +1

Google had a 1.62% market share in mobile phone handsets as at March 2019: http://gs.statcounter.com/vendor-market-share/mobile/austral…

That's ALL google phones (pixel 1, pixel 2, pixel 3, maybe even the nexus series, etc). But you know the most complained about handsets I see on this site? The pixel phones.

Apple would literally have to have 32x as many complaints to say that they're of equivalent quality, and Samsung would have to have 14x as many complaints, but AFAICT Apple and Samsung both have fewer complaints.

I'm glad that you're not experiencing problems, but such a with minuscule market share, yet stacks of complaints, it's mathematically undeniable that there really are genuine problems with the pixel handsets.

      • +1

I personally think it's waaaay more complicated than what you're suggesting.

Firstly the more phones Apple and Samsung sell, the more positive sentiment there is to drown out the negative. Their support forums are full of complaints.

I've also seen so many people that have never owned the phone and never plan on owning the phone go on massive rants about how crap it is, to a degree I've never witnessed before. It's a mixture of the sentiment around phone innovation at the time of release, the notch and 4gb ram backlash, the price hike compared to Pixel 2, larger adoption of cheaper Chinese devices, but probably most of all it's the intention of Google to appeal to the Apple user base who care less about hardware specs and more on user experience.

People are angry Google didn't design the phone they wanted, and they're more than happy to tell you about it.

That's not to say the Pixel is perfect, but what phone is? There were absolutely some memory management issues in the early days, and the phone call issues some users have now are very real, but also not isolated to Pixel (Samsung devices have had similar issues since March last year).

  • I have a pixel 3XL and wouldn't recommend it. It has a few problems which shouldn't be happening with how expensive the phone is

  • +2

i still have a OnePlus 6 and it's still snappy as. Happy customer!

  • Pixel 2 here, been a happy camper for 18 months now. Can count the times I've had to reset it due to freezing etc on the number of upper body limbs.

Wife has a Pixel 3 for past few months and have to say it's not quite so rock solid.. already she's had the microphone not starting right away on a call problem, and the dreaded picture taken but not saved issue (though seemed to have shown up in the gallery after a reboot).

I find battery life on both good but not exceptional. No overheating issues.

Anyway, looking forward to upgrading to the Pixel 4.

  • The catalogue I have says it ends April 15th, can you double check the expiry?

  • Wife's v30 battery SOT reaches 6hrs, my pixel 3 normally is just 3 hours, lasts me from morning until evening though but I'm not a heavy user at work.

  • Harvey Norman won't price match. They claim it's 'below the retail price' ….even though they were selling it cheaper just last month.

Make sure you keep the receipt and return and get your money back. The microphone has issues.
