    Brutus Parking Barrier@Bunnings

Good deal for Julius (or not?)

    • +1

Only barriers Brutus from action at Bunnings.

As I recall, Julius did not meet his folly at Bunnings nor any other hardware megastore.

    Link isn't working for me…

    • Working fine here

    • Same here. Expired

    • +2

Apparently it’s only sold in NSW.

I’ve checked WA, NT, SA, VIC, QLD, and TAS, and it doesn’t show up on the website for those states.

The Bunnings website uses your current location (stored in a cookie) to determine if the product is available in your state and redirects you to the Our Range part of the website if it is not.

      • +3

That explains it. I've wondered why this happens sometimes at Bunnings. What a terrible user experience.

        • Only if you’ve jumped to the website from an OzBargain link 😉

But seriously, think about it - it’s better if a customer in a certain state only finds those products available in their own state when they do a search. That’s the very good reason why the site is state-based.

However, you are right in that the website shouldn’t just do a blind redirect from a product link. Instead, it would be better to display the product page with an added, prominent NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR STATE banner.

Unfortunately, clearing cookies doesn’t result in all product links working, as the site uses geolocation info to "guess" your nearby store if you haven’t specifically set it, or allowed the site to use your current location.

      • That's why couldn't find it

  • Good for putting in a home driveway to stop boat and/or caravan being wheeled off in the middle of the night.

  • same as JV link not working.

4 tiny screws in the ground in a small tight area holding this stick up? Either just drive over it and have a bit of bumper damage or 2 or 3 hits with a sledge hammer would do it.

    • +1

I think the usual use-case is to prevent other people from parking in your allocated parking space.

      • +3

        Ow.. well thats less exciting

      "12 x 70mm masonry anchors "

Installed properly, its gonna like be a bit more than 'a bit of bumper damage' for you to knock/sheer those

Weak points likely the pivot bolt at the bottom but shearing thats still going to be a bit of force

stick with the sledge hammer… way less obvious ;)

      • What's to stop someone taking the nuts of with a shifter ? Serious question as im trying to anchor a u to cement for a bike lock.

        • strip the head once it is installed

          • @altomic: Unfortunately, there's a self-adjusting spanner that will easily undo rounded nuts (and heads as well).

However, it might help, as the average Joe Bloggs probably doesn’t own one. However, someone more prepared/determined will either have one on them or come back with one.

Use Dynabolts. You can't just unscrew them.

          • @Tacooo: Can Dynabolts easily replace the normal bolts in these bollards?

          • +1

@Tacooo: Sorry, but normal Dynabolts are masonry anchors with nuts on top that are easily unscrewed. You can also get Dynabolts with bolt heads or screw heads, but these are also easily removed.

        • Use chemset anchors.

Ain't gonna get them put easily

          • @Suspect420: Thanks, have this idiot in my building who keeps knocking down the bollard and parking illegally

          • +1

@Suspect420: Chemset anchors are studs which have a nut on top that is removable. You don’t have to actually remove the studs. Once the nuts are undone, the barrier can be lifted off.

            • +1

@robinCTS: Chemset anchors and welding the nut is the way to go.

Next level would be to cast-in-situ. Won't be getting it out easily then

        • +1

If you really want to make the masonry anchors hard to remove (notwithstanding using a sledgehammer/running over the barrier with your car), you have three choices that I can think of:

          • For Dynabolts/Chemsets/equivalent, weld the nut to the stud.
          • For masonry bolts, weld the bolt head to the washer and the washer to the base plate (or just weld the head to the plate if not using a washer).
          • Use hammer anchors like the RediDrive™ Hammer-In Anchor from Ramset. (Note that the RediDrive is only light duty, though.)
      • The 70mm is the relevant part. You're not going to fail a 12mm diameter bolt in tension, but I suspect you can pull it out of whatever substrate it is connected to by just driving over it.

        • Up it to 120mm.

          • @Tacooo: FYI, Chemset studs max out at M12 x 160mm, and Dynabolts at M12 x 140mm.

Like 99% of security the idea isn't to make your stuff impossible to steal, it's to make it seem like too much effort / risk so they take your neighbor's crap instead.

      Winged Parking Barrier

It's only to stop it flying away.

  • Link not working. Did a search on Bunnings, does not show up either.

    • +1

See my previous comment. Apparently, it’s only available in NSW.

      • +1

That makes sense, NSW would have a big demand for this with their lack of parking spaces ;-)

        • Seems like parking spaces are also an issue in ACT ☺️

  • Available in ACT - showing as in stock at Tuggeranong store only

    • I knew I forgot to check somewhere 😉

  • Seems a bargain at $9….if I was in NSW, I'd be able to see if it was or not

    • Have you considered selling and moving?

  • Need a BT or RFID or with a SIM version of this.
So no need to get out of your vehicle to lower it

  • +1

Not available where I am. Probably for the best. Neighbours would have been pretty pissed.

    • What!? Your neighbours park in your driveway?
