Philips Hue White E27/B22 Extension Bulb for $14.50/$13.45 @ Bunnings (Officeworks Price Beat $13.78/$12.78)

220

E27 $13.78 @ Officeworks via Price Beat Bunnings
B22 $12.78 @ Officeworks via Price Beat Bunnings

This is the cheapest price I have seen the Philips Hue Smart Bulbs….I decked out my house when they were $17 and I thought that was great value (they normally hover around $25-30). I think Bunnings are price matching Amazon AU, but Officeworks will beat Bunnings by 5%.

Interestingly I rang JD Lighting as I needed to get some other things from their store, and asked if they would beat Officeworks or Bunnings… despite claiming they will " PRICE SMASH" any competitors, they refused to even match it, claiming it was too far below their cost price. Not sure why they bother to offer a price smash guarantee, seems like false advertising, but also shows you how good the price is at Officeworks. Picked up a couple from them today instead.

  • Do these do different light colour temperatures (e.g. daylight & warm white) in addition to dimming?

No info on this in the specs/product description that I could find.

Label on box says warm white, but not sure if that means default or that is the only temperature it operates at.

    • No, just dimming.

    • Nah, just % brightness control via app or home assistant. TBH I think the colour is just a novelty unless its for the garden or party etc (specific use cases). General use I find the brightness good enough (although I haven't played around with more than a few coloured bulbs.

The colour of the white from daylight to yellow is important if you need to see what something looks like under more natural light. Like painting.

I’ve not found a use for the colour globes though

    • These ones only do warm white. If you need cool white you need the more expensive ones white ones. The full colour ones aren’t needed for the different whites though

  • Requires a hue bridge to operate it. How much that one for?

    • I presume you can having them running if you already have zigbee stick with home assistant? This is much cheaper solution in the long run and allow more supported device such as xiaomi/Samsung and other zigbee devices.

      • Looks like there may be some options to go without a bridge. I’m curious though if they’d be able to deliver software updates and the like that the hub would generally orchestrate.

        • Yeah, Home Assistant, Mozilla IoT, Node-Red to name but a few that would work with a Zigbee USB stick

But as you state @Smigit, I've not yet seen anyone mention this previously, I've had firmware updates for Yeelight delivered by the Mi hub, and Philips Hue firmware updates via the Philips Hue app connected to a bridge.

I've never seen in Home Assistant or Mozilla IoT anything related to firmware updates being offered /shrug

    • These are Extension Bulbs… you need a bridge. About $89 by itself but you're better off buying a start kit if you dont have any of these globes yet. The Hub operates the lights seamlessly… I haven't had a single issue with any of them for over a year now…

  • shows you how good the price is at Officeworks

Why would you believe JD after they lied about price matching though?

    • True, but its the same lie - JD Lighting wouldn't price match because it was below their cost price (they say). Regardless, it's the lowest price I've seen from Amazon, OW and Bunnings.

Good deal. These are good enough for me. I have the colour ambiance version for few years. After the colours novelty wear off, i only use white.

  • thanks op
