The Microsoft store on eBay, I believe has the same machine for $2995. Couple that with 10% off site wide or a 20% off Microsoft eBay sale (usually once every couple of months). Your going to save a lot more

  • If you read whirlpool, there are reports of razer taking more than a month for repairs, so I would say support might be lacking.

    • Had a razer wireless mouse sent for repairs through MSY 7 weeks later was given a refund ridiculous

    • Yeah, the thing is, razer doesnt have any support directly from them, its all from 3rd party which drove me nuts when i tried to get my razer blade replaced, they kept transferring me to different support staff, got the shits and wanted to talk to their technicians and told me they were in america, Their support staff are based in the Philippians

  • A lot of Pascal-based laptops were price dropped ages ago due to Turing laptops appearing at the end of January. Even with that in mind, this is not good value when compared against an RTX 2060 laptop.

We had a metabox posted recently with basically a 2070 for the same price from Kong. Pretty hard to justify a $3k price tag on a 1070.

  • I paid 1760 for loyalty with 1070 back in 2017.

    Stupid money for old tech.

2999 for a 1070? They were selling 1060 for 1199 acouple months back and that was even pretty iffy.

    Bad deal.

I got a cheap razer blade stealth 2018 model in the last Microsoft sale. Arrived DOA charger didn't work, sent it back requested a refund and still ongoing appearantly DOA isn't a major issue according to Razer.. Microsoft told me to contact Razer as they don't manufacture it I explained under Australian Consumer Law I deal with who I bought it off not the manufacturer. Going back and forward with Microsoft I got the ACC involved, still waiting (over a week since they got involved) save the hassle get a reputable brand as I was sceptical on all the negative reviews and warranty issues.. hope this helps

How does Microsoft of all people not know that? Seriously…

      • Yeah.. appearantly the eBay store isn't affiliated with the web store. They even operate under the same ABN

The warranty concerns are troubling as I am thinking of moving from Alienware 13R3 to Razer Blade 15 with a 2070. Dell has great warranty and post sales support but I’ve never really had too many issues but now I’m wondering if buying a Razer is too risky even if I get it from MS or JB.

With JB you shouldn't have any issues. My housemate bought a R153 and it bricked installing updates an hour after he bought it he went back in and got exchanged straight away.. online is an issue as I said above. Next laptop I get I'll be purchasing from JB or Harvey Norman even if it's a bit more. Hope this helps

      • That helps alot too. I never believed in buying those JB Hifi extended warranties but this is one of those times I might.

        • Yeah I'm gonna give online a skip solely for that purpose

Too expensive for what it offers

  • 9th gen laptop cpus are coming soon, these devices are going to be much cheaper soon.

  • My only qualm with Razer is that they use a proprietary charging connection. It doens't charge via Type-C port. So you must have that charger with you and never lose it.

I have a USB dock set up at my desk. Whichever laptop of tablet that can charge via USB C, I just plug it right in and don't even need to use the chargers they came with.

Having said that, I've seen this thing go for $26xx before at Amazon AU before cashback (not import).

    • USB-PD only delivers up to 100W which is not enough for such a system, a proprietary charging port is pretty guaranteed for a gaming laptop. For work oriented device tho, I agree with you, they should support charging via USBC even though they might not support Thunderbolt 3, a barrel plug for a work oriented device is just dumb imho.

      • I think it would've been nice to charge over USB C as an alternate emergency/slow way of charging such as whilst travelling but then it probably would've made the device thicker/hotter/more expensive/etc for limited benefit.

      • My dock delivers 230W.

Even 100W is enough for when you're not gaming.

Do people on gaming laptops only game and do nothing else? And when they game, is it only the most demanding games or do they play lighter and older games too?

Even laptops with barrel charging also support charging via USB C. When you don't need the full power, I'd be willing to accept charging at slower pace, or discharging over no charging from that port at all.

        • Yep. With the ultraportable gaming laptops nowadays with Optimus, I actually planned for my gaming laptop to be just a solid laptop for normal use too (eg planning a holiday).
