Not your best looking work there Andrew

      Speakers are about sound quality.

Can't speak for the bookshelf, but the floorstanding version

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/pioneer-single-floorstand-louds…

Has outstanding reviews for its price range. Many consider them to be the best sub $1000 pair of speakers you can get.

Sadly $51.99 shipping to me on the floorstanders and the FREE4U code doesnt reduce that at all….

      • Better than Q Acoustic 3050?

        • +1

Its very subjective. They are certainly cheaper than Q Acoustic 3050s….

          You can get 6 Pioneers for 2 Q Acoustics….

Bang for buck the Pioneer have an excellent reputation from multiple sources…

Personally I'd prefer some ELAC Debut's - designed by the same guy Andrew Jones - but again they are triple the price….

      • Looks like the best value in US floor stander

      • Have you considered the Tannoy Eclipse 3? Can get at Eastwood Hifi for $499 (as new).

They have a 5 star review from What HIFI and are also an award winner.

The bloke who delivers parcels for Toll at our work in andrew jones. Guess he loves designing speakers but his real passion is delivering them.

      Andrew Jones the speaker designer

    Here's a great review on them. http://noaudiophile.com/Pioneer_BS-22/

Plus here's some more info if you're interested in them:
    - You'll need to hook them up to an amp using speaker wire.
    - They don't come with speaker wire.
    - They don't have their own power supply, and
    - there's a port on the back of the speaker that outputs bass so it's best to leave some room for this when positioning them in your house.

These are very popular in the US and have lots of excellent reviews with people saying they rattle windows, have heaps of power, perfect to replace TV speakers, added subwoofer to round out the sound. Reviews range from people who have hooked them up to high end Sansui amps, Onkyo amps, Sennheiser amps, or no-name brand amps and all the reviews say these babies perform really well - even at lower volumes.

They do look very appealing at this price :)

Think I might use these as surrounds for my 5.1.2 setup.

  • I've got a pair hooked up to the PC powered with a SMSL Q5 amp streaming tidal and couldn't be happier.

As a knights fan I can't help but trust Joey's opinion, purchased!

    • +1

You cannot possibly be a true Newcastle Knights fan. Joey is Andrew Johns. This guy is Andrew Jones. He is also not the Shock Jock on Radio 2GB.

      • And I thought Novocastrians had sense!

  • Been keeping my eye on these, and the rest of the Andrew Jones range to upgrade my out-dated cheap Sony 5.1ch all-in-one system (I recently upgraded to the excellent Pioneer VSX-933 amp). I wanted to get the updated Atmos bookshelf speakers too but these are still pretty expensive at $476 a pair on eBay at the moment (10% off with KG Electronic - also an official Pioneer stockist).

Bing Lee has a FS52PACK bundle which looks to be an exclusive - $996 for a full 5.1ch setup but delivery to my address is a rediculous $500!

What's the best front and rear combination for Atmos guys?
    2x Pioneer SP-FS52 floor speakers (front) +
    2x Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelf speakers (rear) +
    2x Pioneer SP-T22A-LR Dolby Atmos add-on speakers

    OR

    2x Pioneer SP-FS52 floor speakers (front) +
2x Pioneer SP-BS22A-LR Dolby Atmos bookshelf speakers (rear)

    OR
    2x Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelf speakers (front) +
    2x Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelf speakers (rear) +
    2x Pioneer SP-T22A-LR Dolby Atmos add-on speakers

    OR some other configuration? :)

It seems to be cheaper to buy the bookshelf + Atmos add-on speakers separately rather than combined which is a bummer as they look a lot tidier and less Pioneer brandiing.

The cheapest total price I've seen for a 7.1ch Atmos setup is $1245 for: centre + S52W subwoofer + 4x bookshelf speakers + 2x Atmos add-on speakers buying through Kogan and KG Electronics on eBay.

      Look at these guidelines:

      https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-atmos/dolby-a…

      "Placement relative to listeners
To avoid an unwanted proximity effect, make sure the speakers are at least (0.9 meter) away from listening positions, ideally (1.5 meters) or more. This distance
may be less than 5 feet if the upward-firing driver(s) of the Dolby Atmos enabled speaker is placed well above the level of the closest listener’s head."

This may limit placing the "2x Pioneer SP-BS22A-LR Dolby Atmos bookshelf speakers" in the rear depending on where your rears are located.

      • Cheers. Went for 2x Pioneer SP-FS52 floor speakers, 2x Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelf speakers, 2x Pioneer SP-T22A-LR Dolby Atmos add-on speakers, and 2x S52W subwoofers. Apparently you can link both left and "height" (Atmos) speakers (run in series front and rear) to give 4 upward-firing speakers so might look to get and extra 2 SP-T22A-LRs at a later date depending on how it sounds :)
