Not a good to deal to me, i rather add another $50 for Optus MyTab, Better Memory, able to make a phone call and Android 2.2.

    • +2

I agree, the step up from Android 2.1 to 2.2 is definitely worth fiddy alone.

    • +1

That is not a valid reason to vote negative. $50 is a huge amount when looking at a $99 device with free delivery. Thats 50% of the product price for very little improvement.

This is why I don't go into every single Television thread and tell everyone to pay an extra $500 for a Sony Bravia…. (50% of the product price again if the TV was $1000)

This is actually a good deal, I wonder what the real speed of the ARM11 CPU is though..

      • +1

well, extra $50 could makes your life go easier, Surf Internet using 3G, Flash Websites, and 3GB Data for 3 months. Well depend on how you think, for me i would add another extra $50 to makes my life go easier with extra functionality.

        • +1

does someone need an oncologist? I might be able to help…

        • +1

optus mytab doesn't do flash (lack of processor ability) though i do agree that 3g is a pretty important feature

2.2+3g also means you will be able to tether/use as a hotspot (maybe to allow other wifi-only tablet users 'net access) haha

    • The optus tab is a resistive also.
You can use a memory card and not sure who makes phone calls on a 7" device

      • Ability to make calls also = 3G for wireless internet, without an additional dongle. That's acually a big drawcard for some folks!

That said, it's definitely not neg-worthy, but I'd like to see a review or two before considering a bargain either! ;)

      • so this one is capacitive?

might be worth adding features to your OP

        • +3

It's not capacitive, the REP is just saying they both are resistive; not sure why he said though, that had nothing to do with Wtfmyko's comment.

    • +1

no need to neg for little things like that. the seller has a decent product at a very decent price.

  • still alight for the price, as long it doesnt lag when pulling screen, im up to it, just for reading.

  • Hi Rep,

When it says it uses wifi or bluetooth, does blue tooth mean any old sim card?

    • Bluetooth is a wireless communication protocol for things like headphones, mouse, etc to connect to the device. Nothing to do with SIM cards.

You MIGHT be able to connect it to a phone using Internet Tethering by using Bluetooth, which is what I do with my laptop.

  • +3

Ill go with the extra $50 for the more usable Optus device on this one.
While the My Tab has a resistive screen by all reports it is a good one.

    • +2

Agree. And the optus tab has 3G, while this one only Wifi.

      • Also i don't quiet get why people wants to spend $99 dollar for just WIFI Version and no flash support. Extra $50 could make your life go easier.

    • this is still a andriod device…you never used it so how would you know?

  • Hi voteoften - Bluetooth makes it really easy to connect two devices wirelessly through the bluetooth function where you cant't connect them together with cables to transfer data, such as photos, music etc.

  • How do you surf the net? Is a dongle the only option (other than wifi)?

  • +1

    how's the battery life?

  • +1

and ROFL "Up to 1080P playback"
    who are you kidding?

    • -2

what are you on about? I sell similar tablets that can play 1080p video.

      • +1

with an ARM11 , 256MB of RAM and no graphics chip?

I don't think so. The screen doesn't even have that many pixels.

        • -1

          Mod: Removed Personal Attack

I SELL tablets to customers that I import from China, and the only one that can't play 1080p is the cheap eken junk that I import for $50. (I stopped importing it anyway because of the high failure rate)

        • +2

so you ARE selling junk. glad you are admitting that :)
I have used this tablet before. It did not play my 1080p mkvs.

        • +2

LOL I am trying to get the REP to state the specs of this tablet, and not be misleading about the product and its description.

        • +1

post a photo with your username written and the tablet in your hands then.

        • Don't have it anymore, hence I said "I have used this tablet before" instead of I have this tablet/ I am using this tablet.

        • How convenient

        • +1

So where do you sell these tablet of yours?

    • Never used this device before myself, but he's a video review on Youtube of it playing 1080p video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHclztNuTfU

Probably depends on the codec and bitrate of the 1080p video file if it'll play on this device. And no, just because the screen doesn't have that many pixels doesn't mean that the device isn't capable of playing 1080p video.

      • +1

Thanks for that. My mkv was probably too big…

      • +3

        What a pointless video.

Hey everybody look I can play a Hi Res video on a Low Res device. You're only ever going to see 800 by 600 pixels.

        • If you look at the threading of the comments, I was posting the video in reply to mustkill doubting the device's ability to play 1080p video.

It's not a feature I personally care about, but I would think some out there might value a device's ability to play 1080p video, regardless of its screen resolution, if it means they don't have to convert some of their 1080p videos to a lower resolution.

        • Its more that a scene release .avi is not very good quality and picky people like me will notice it on a tablet as small as this.

The next step up is 720p and 1080p mkv's.

        • Well that's subjective and dependent on the source and encoder used to compress the movie. Theoretically, an AVI compressed to 800x600 resolution should be of equal or better quality because it's not relying on real-time pixel averaging/compression that occurs when a higher resolution source is displayed on a lower resolution screen.

Any decent Scene release will be ripped from a HD source by the best encoder available, so there is no need to waste precious space with HD video files.

        • +2

FWIW, both .avi & .mkv are both just containers! ;)

        • caramellokoala, if you can't see the difference between a scene release avi and a scene release mkv then you need to get your eyes checked.

        • Sam, MKV and AVI are simply "containers" to store encoded media inside. The scene release MKVs are usually compressed with H.264 or x.264 which is a more efficient encoder than the Xvid or DiVX most commonly used inside AVIs. If both use the same encoding settings, then theoretically there should be no difference in size or quality between MKV and AVI.

The main advantage of MKV seems to be that allows multiple streams, so you can store subtitles, alternative audio, etc

lots of tablet offer up to 1080p playback output to the tv…

Back on topic - 800x600 is a good res for such a cheap tablet. Beats the MyTab's 800x480.

  • I bought one for my missus.

The tablet is laggy as hell. Tried to load angry birds on it but since there is no graphics chip it loaded up with white blocks. So it was pretty much unplayable. Any other game would either force close or play at a very dismal frame rate.

I ended up doing a very long and hard search for a custom rom. Finally found one that worked on the non 3G model. It now plays Angry Birds pretty good.

The browsing experience is much smoother/quicker. So overall, not a bad tablet for the price if you decide to put in the hard work.
