Samsung 27" CHG70 QLED VA QHD 144hz Curved FreeSync HDR Monitor LC27HG70QQEXXY $479.20 + Delivery @ Computer Alliance eBay

210
PCA20

While there's newer monitors coming out right now, if you're dead set on VA panels and want good value, this is it right now and is at its historically lowest price. Delivery is $15, or free with eBay Plus.

Biggest trade off on VA is the slow response times of darker colours, in this case most typically noticeable at 60-90 Hz when Freesync is engaged. This monitor tries to move around that by offering a couple of backlight strobe modes (similar to black frame insertion techniques) in lieu of traditional overdrive settings, but this also forces a fixed refresh rate.

You'll have to check reviews (like this, though keep in mind the 27" model doesn't have those PWM issues) to get a better idea if this monitor suits your use case, but if you're happy with the trade offs, colour and contrast wise this is fantastic for a gaming monitor for the price.

Original PCA20 20% off Computer Alliance on eBay Deal Post

EDIT:

Apparently some people need this PSA: Freesync monitors work fine via DisplayPort (not HDMI, yet) with Freesync mode enabled on GTX 10 series cards and higher thanks to a driver update from NVIDIA:

https://www.anandtech.com/show/13797/nvidia-to-support-vesa-…

Just change the setting in the NVIDIA control panel.

It's a 1440p 144hz monitor, and Freesync works for Pascal and Turing cards as of January this year…

If you've got a better deal, by all means post it, but I suspect you're a bit out of the loop here.

        • +4

          Serves a completely different purpose..

        • +1

Mate, i don't think you quite get intended audiences. That 4K Phillips is completely different intended user.

          • -4

@Xizor: i know it is different audiences

still think 27 inch is way too expensive…

rather saved the money for bigger screen and 4k..

if someone thinks this is a good deal then go for it..

            • @pinkybrain: So why are you looking at this deal then? Kinda weird if you don't have any interest in it.

I mean I want a 27" monitor, I don't want 4k as my GPU isn't great, and I want higher than FULL HD. I also don't want super wide monitors as they are terrible for coding/web browsing.

          • +2

@Xizor: Lol I think this guy lost it. Next he will say we should just buy the Samsung 65" 4k QLED monitor.

            • +2

@onlinepred: Why not just go for one of the Samsung 110" 4K TVs instead?

              • -2

@Tacooo: so you telling ppl what deals they can and can't look at or comment?
why don't you tell that to jv or all the people that posts comments in lots of post that they may or may not have interests in

I think you would well be suited to live in communist china.

                • @pinkybrain: pinkybrain looks at deal for 55" TV, lets everyone know that they want a 65" tv so this deal is bad.
pinkybrain looks at deal for computer, lets everyone know that they want a laptop so this deal is bad.

You said "pretty expensive for a 27" monitor", logic of ozbargain would say that you then need to back that comment up. Please post a deal that is better or a monitor that is better.

                  • -5

@onlinepred: At this price 27" is expensive, that's my own opinion
If you think it is good deal then go for it..

Why do I need to backup that comment, it is my own opinion of what i consider is expensive

Does jv need to backup any of his many stupid comments on almost every deals?

I didn't know you are trying mod what ppl can say now

I think you would well be suited to live in communist china.

                    • @pinkybrain: Are you JV? You sound like you love China? Do you want to whisk JV away and move to China with them? Is that what you are trying to get at?

"At this price 27" is expensive, that's my own opinion
If you think it is good deal then go for it.." - again you don't provide a better deal, just your opinion. Thanks for helping OZB…..

Also that 43" phillips monitor you posted has terrible reviews. Probably why it's cheap?

                      • +1

@onlinepred: dude if you love this monitor then buy it
why you so concern about what i think?

Are you gonna reply to everyone that posts a comment to any posts you are commenting in?

No i don't love or hate china..

But you sound like you do..since you are trying to mod what ppl can and can't say..
so you would be well suited to live in the communist country..

Why do i need to provide a better deal?
Is everyone posting a comment on all the threads required to post a better deal..

                        Get a life dude,
Go back to your personal hobby as based on your nickname…

                        • -1

@pinkybrain: I love china because I want to hear what better deal you think there is? okay… You want to send all logical thinkers to china too? Sounds like you are the dictator here.

Anyway I understand I am clearly speaking to Pinky and not the Brain. Peace out.

                          • -1

@onlinepred: LOL, @ you think you are a logical thinker? hahah

do you understand what is an opinion?
Go look it up on the dictionary.com

If someone consider something is a good deal or not, or expensive or not
that is an an opinion..based on what their standards of value is..

You ain't as smart as you think you are..

LOL, you are the one trying control what someone says or not

seems like my opinion on this deal has hurt you
                            No need to cry…

    • +3

I thought we can now use gsync on freesync?

    • +5

freesync useless for nvidia gpu owners

So will you be negging all GSync monitor deals just because they're useless for AMD card owners now?

This deal is also useless for anyone without a computer but that's no reason to whinge.

      • +3

Ah damn it man, I was going to buy this and I don't have a computer…. Now I gotta buy a computer too?

      • -3

        i didn't neg vote it..

Just making a comment that it won't be any use for people who own nvidia cards (unless they managed to get gsync to work on freesync)
also 27 isn't that much bigger than the 24 at this price..is quite expensive

if AMD card owners thinks this is a good deal than go for it..

        • +1

Most of freesync monitors works fine with NVIDIA cards.

1440p 144Hz is not cheap. In fact it's very expensive and for a good reason. It's the most popular type of gaming monitor on the market and we are 5-10 years away from 4K 144Hz to replace it. Find me a comparable 144Hz 1440p monitor at cheaper price.

          • @Bigboomboom:

we are 5-10 years away from 4K 144Hz to replace it

More like 2-3 years, especially with all these 4k120Hz TVs with HDMI 2.1. You can already get basic 4k144hz panels for around $1000, but they obviously don't have great support right now, nor the display connector technologies to deliver it in HDR just yet.

            • @jasswolf: Uh no you can't get 4k 144hz for $1000, even Freesync one costs $1500 and are small (27"). You also have no GPU to drive it yet, even SLI Titan RTX/2080 Ti is pushing it and never mind cost. In order to replace 1440p 144Hz monitor price is a big factor. Until we came get single GPU powerful enough for it at <$1000 and monitor at $500-600ish for Freesync it won't be a popular choice.

And also current 4K 144hz is seriously lacking atm as there isn't enough bandwidth for the picture quality (see chroma subsampling).

              • @Bigboomboom: $1250 from mWave for the Acer Nitro XV3. The 2080Ti is powerful enough with a few tweaks down from ultra/max, and low-level APIs will only drive that up more (read more into mesh shading and variable rate shaders, the latter of which is already capable of a 15% speedup, and the former might be revolutionary).

As you note, HDMI 2.0 is not great for 4k144hz at 8-bit and 10-bit without compression, but DisplayPort 1.4 supports lossless compression via DSC, so with a HBR3 cable you can get 4k144hz HDR, but you obviously need to confirm if the monitor supports it.

Next year's 7nm EUV-based GPUs will take something like the 2080Ti and shrink it to a third of its current size, paving the way for a big leap in processing power, likely putting the xx60 and up into 4k HDR gaming territory with a little extra VRAM. Come 2022, there'll be another generation of cards out, possibly on 5nm, at which point the GPU power required will be well and truly mainstream.

Similarly, 4k144hz monitors will have HDMI 2.1 and future DisplayPort updates, and will likely have slid in to around this price due to economies of scale. Feel free to come rub this post in my face in 3 years if I'm wrong, but Moore's law will be back next year, but will sputter out again at about 3nm.

  • Just a PSA

check the monitor on google for gysnc usage

    https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/ah2sim/samsung_chg7…
    seems mixed result

remember nvidia said they will beable to use gsync on select freesync monitors (Not all) and that they wont always work 100% (see above)

still +1 cause this is a great deal regardless (considering buying still)

    • The post says to get the official firmware update (which this probably has)? You can also extend or shorten the Freesync range using CRU.

You're probably going to want to use this with Freesync off and it's strobing backlight mode on (Fastest setting).

      • +1

yep in the thread they had the firmware.

just saying gysnc will work isnt a correct psa (dont wanna give the wrong idea)

I bought it cause its such a deal

edit didnt buy it cause it didnt take my money :(

I am currently running this monitor. Real nice pictures, great colours, only downside is the 9 zone local dimming.

    • Yeah it's obviously a very basic HDR monitor, but there real are no fancy local dimming options yet. There's mini-LED and FALD options popping up later this year, but they'll cost double and triple this.

      • Of course. And for the cost it is a fantastic 1440p 27" 144hz display with HDR. I love this monitor. Great for gaming.

        • Do you run onto much in the way of the dark trails I described when using Freesync? I'd imagine if you can avoid 60-90 it's pretty smooth, I know I've heard good things about the CJG50 for that reason.

          • +1

@jasswolf: I haven't noticed it yet. But since I got this monitor, I've mainly played Assassins Creed Odyssey which was staying about the 50-60fps mark, and a few other FPS games which I get over 100fps.
