is it purely a graphics enhancement and no other changes?
Yes
@congo: That's lazy man.
At least add some QoL updates.
@lostn: The point was actually to not alter gameplay because Starcraft is still a big esport and the only way the remaster could work is by being the same game with updated visuals. It would never have been embraced as a tournament game if it changed actual gameplay, it would split everything up between "classic" and "remastered".
It was the right choice. Though with that in mind it's way too expensive.
@sinewaves7: Has the esports scene moved to the remastered version or still using the original?
Because if it's from an esports POV, the gameplay HAS changed. The new view shows a lot more on the screen at once than the old 640x480 game did.
I'm really not buying that argument. If they improved the pathfinding, it just means everyone moves to the remaster and everyone gets the same improved pathfinding.
If you want to talk about gameplay changes in esports, THE SAME GAME changes all the time with every patch, be it Starcraft, League of Legends or Overwatch. Sometimes massive changes. And this is within the same game, not even a remaster.
Whatever they change in a remaster, the scene will just adapt quickly to it like they always have.
@lostn: Yes all esports has moved to the Remaster as far as I know. I don't follow much beyond KSL and ASL though so that could be wrong. But I think the view is still restricted in esports games.
I get what you mean for remasters in general but Starcraft being so old and beloved as it is, and micromanagement of the units as they currently operate being such a well-honed skill, I can see why they chose not to mess with anything.
I don't think a comparison to a game currently being developed & patched is fair at all. Brood War's core gameplay has never changed. I don't think every game needs a remaster that comes along and turns it in to a different game. Sometimes a touch of paint is OK.
Also based on Starcraft 2 I would expect current Blizzard to only mess the game up anyway.Really a matter of opinion though.
@sinewaves7: A lot of people complained about Starcraft 2 game play.
I played both, and find that I play & prefer Starcraft 2 over Starcraft 1.
Whats wrong with Starcraft 2 in particular?
Just audio and graphics were updated. StarCraft Remastered also includes an in-game hero for StarCraft II (valued at $6.95).
Have they fixed the pathfinding in SC1 Remastered?
