I got errors on the GOG site too but weirdly did get the email confirmation that it had been added to my account.
When the deal was first published clicking the link brought me to the GOG homepage, and the game was listed as $19.99. Now it works.

Boot up your Xbox, search Metro on Microsoft store. Click on the correct game.

I just went to the store on my Xbox Series X and it's showing as $26.95.
So are you sure that you don't have Game Pass and have just installed it through that. Thinking that you have now owned the game for free?. It is a game available through Game Pass but you don't actually own the game. So my guess that it's available to you to install and download through Game Pass, but you aren't owning the game.
I had the same issue but got it to work, no gamepass.
Go into the store, query it up, go to install it, will still say $26.95 but will have another button on the screen available to install. Choose this and it will start downloading and you're done.@morediscount: ok, but I installed the whole thing about 7gb I think, and played it for about 10 mins

And yeah it is easily to get confused. I think we all have one, two, or three Metro games, err here there and over there.
I always see people comment with this, and have never understood why it gets posted. I am sure I have claimed heaps of the GOG freebies and never felt the need to unsubscribe from anything, and don't believe I get any marketing emails from them either. What am I missing? Keen to understand please!
You are auto-subscribed every time you collect a giveaway. I figure that auto-subscribing only makes sense if there are marketing emails.
Interesting. I have never received a marketing email from them after claiming any of the free giveaways. No idea why that would be the case, but explains why people would benefit from the link to unsubscribe. Cheers for explaining.

Confirmed working on xbox as described, search metro 2033 redux, go rite through purchase screens, before you confirm credit card details there is an option to “install you can play this” or buy, hit install 🙂

But a trial you get to keep according to the link, as wutang01 says install and do not delete
It let me do the same with the others; Metro last light redux and Metro exodus too but sadly recognised I didn’t actually own the game after installing :(
I actually have the “play” disc of Exodus I accidentally bought from Big W years ago for $3 but of course I can’t find it to test it.
Guess this only works from the console and not from a browser or PC?
Can someone help me. It's still $26.95 for me. I'm on the Xbox store via mobile phone browser. There's no install now button (I get up to the payment page). What am I missing?

When I did it last night I had the option of “install to” on the Xbox phone app. Is your Xbox linked with your account?
I did see "install to", but I thought that was because it's a GamePass game? Otherwise "Buy" would show zero dollars, I think.
Yeah, it lets you install it to your console for free if you click on that, which is what I did but I still don’t actually own the game so if I remove it it’ll most likely be gone. It sounds like they fudged up. It’s fully playable when I tested it though.

I installed the Xbox app but now I can't get past the "install to" screen
I had this problem too. I had to enable remote sharing on the console itself, then the console shows up in the app, then I could finally install the game from the app to the console. If you haven’t linked your console to the app before you should be able to by going to your library in the app.
They made it ridiculously difficult.
